Best Value Video Editing Suite on the Market 9/10

I have been a Vegas Movie Studio user for three versions now. Each one just gets better and better."Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 Production Suite" comes with three separate programs and some very cool extras thrown in.You get Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 to do all your editing and video making,DVD Architect Studio to make your DVD's and BluRay Discs, and Sound Forge Audio Studio which is a stand alone audio recording and editing studio - great for Podcasters and anyone making voice overs for talking books or tutorials. With this production suite version comes a new bonus 3D Text Generator and extra 3D Transitions and Effects from NewBlueFx. The biggest addition to Version 11 is a new "Title and Text" tool that gives you the ability to create animated text titles. Also you can now edit true 3D Video and import more types of video from DSLR cameras -which is becoming very popular now with videographers.I have been using Version 11 of the... 5/5 Dexter "Dex" (Australia) - See all my reviews This review is from: Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 Production Suite (Software) I have been a Vegas Movie Studio user for three versions now. Beginner Likes It

This review is for brand new beginners like me. I've never used any of the many software programs for video capture or editing. A friend told me that Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum was the easiest and least buggy. BTW, I don't know what the word Platinum refers to or, for that matter, if there is a silver or gold version. Everyone but this one friend told me to shut up and buy a mac in order to use Imovie. I ended up going with Vegas rather than buying a new computer just to edit video. Here's what I've noticed in the first week of use: I was overwhelmed reading the instruction manual but then I stumbled onto the incredible sony training website. Sony provides a website dedicated to training for an earlier version of this program-- [...]This training website had a minor problem: I couldn't figure out the "plug in" update stuff, which I think does something to your browser to enable you to watch these training videos. However, it is easy to download each... 5/5 A. Rosenbach "A. Rosenbach" (California) - See all my reviews, November 14, 2011

I have nothing to do with Sony, but I do read all the post to see what people say and that adds to my buying decision. Given the choices and support, I take Sony. Vegas keeps blowing away the competition

I absolutely LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this software and have never looked back. I've upgraded from Version 9 to get the more 3D processing for generating 3D videos (none of the competition can do as of this writing).I was a newbie at making videos, and started off with Roxio Video Wave (which I would also highly recommend to anyone starting brand new). However, as my skills progressed, I found I kept wanting to do more than Roxio could accommodate.I trialed lots of software (I tried Corel's suite, Nero's, Cyberlink's PowerDirector, Adobe Premiere Elements and Premiere Pro), with my hopes set the highest on Cyberlink PowerDirector and Adobe Premiere Elements.Being a Photoshop user since Version 3 and loving that program, I couldn't wait to try the relevant Adobe Premiere Elements and Elements Pro. Unfortunately, they were total disappointments because of their complexity, kept crashing (those users who complain about that aren't kidding), and the lack... 5/5 David Lozinski "FireMyst" (Fairfax, VA) - See all my reviews, November 21, 2010

Fast, powerful, and easy to use

I have experience with many professional level NLEs, and Vegas is by far the easiest to use. I have been using Vegas Pro since version 8, and I have never had it crash, even on my sub-par performance PCs. I have crashed Final Cut Pro on a Mac Pro workstation many times, and this was with 2x2.26ghz Intel Xeon quad cores, and 8gb DDR3 1066mhz RAM. My PC has a 2.2ghz AMD Turion X2 Dual core, and 4gb of DDR2 800mhz RAM. If you don't have a quad core CPU, and anything less than 4gb of RAM, using Adobe to edit video will be very painful.Vegas is very good at its user interface, and is very intuitive. If you have a basic understanding of how NLEs work, you will be able to make basic edits as soon as you open it. I've never had to close Vegas and reopen it, due to RAM usage. When I use Premiere and After Effects, I have to do this about every 20 minutes. Another very nice thing about Vegas is that it's disc usage is very small. If you've ever used Premiere, you know that it will... 5/5 Anonymoose (Anywhere, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Vegas Pro 10 [Old Version] (Software) I have experience with many professional level NLEs, and Vegas is by far the easiest to use. No support, unreliable, unstable

As an experienced editor, I need software that will actually work under all circumstances, not just when doing a five-minute tutorial for YouTube. Vegas Pro 10 suffers from the same lack of actual technical support from Sony, who leaves its training and support to VASST and tenth graders on YouTube. While it promises to be a powerful, solid editor, certainly loaded with great features. try using more than a handful of plug-ins on a 30-minute project, and see where it goes: constant crashes, disappearance of audio for no reason and, worst of all, no explanation of why any of it is happening. I use this software on both Windows Vista and 7 on either a 3 or 5 GB RAM machine, Intel dual and quad. If you are making family videos or three-minute spots to enhance with flashy and otherwise sophomoric effects, this is the software for you. If you cannot handle frustration, stay away from it. 1/5 Joseph F. Delgado (Columbia, SC, USA) - See all my reviews, June 30, 2011

O.K.So I wrote a review for the last incarnation of this software package (version 9) and a lot of people found it very helpful. There was one BIG problem with Version 9 - it had bugs in the video rendering section, which were never fixed with the software updates. The best of the pack so far!

I have tried out Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 Production Suite and decided to purchase it. I compared it to Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus 16, Pinnacle 14, Corel Videostudio Pro X2/X3, and Cyberlink Power Director 8 and it comes down to one major factor. Vegas actually runs without crashing. I own Videostudio Pro X2, reformatted my PC to start fresh and tried to reinstall VS Pro X2, as I had done a couple times previously, and this time it would not install. I called tech support, which graciously tried to help without charging me - they even called me back to see if the their idea worked - which, unfortunately, it had not. I downloaded VS Pro X3 as I could upgrade for a lower price than buying new. It worked fine a for a day but then started crashing non-stop to the point where I couldn't use it without crashing.I tried Power Director 8 which in some respects has a really good interface (not in all respects though - there are too many tabbed options and the... 5/5 Ansel 4 - See all my reviews This review is from: Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 Suite [OLD VERSION] (Software) I have tried out Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 Production Suite and decided to purchase it. Software has a small learning curve but it's simpler to learn than Final Cut Express. I have used Acid 3.0 for years and some of the interface/tools & commands are pretty similar. Comes with DVD Architect & Sound Forge 10. Haven't fully dived into but so far I created a 2 minute video that looks pretty good. The best thing is so far it reads multiple files. A producer gave me files he transferred from his Sony HD Cam to my hard drive using Final Cut Pro. No other software would open these files; not even AVS4YOU. Kept saying I needed a APCN Codec, well SVP 10 must have it because it worked and audio/video is great. Definitely worth the $94!Kg 5/5 K. Garner (Nashville, TN) - See all my reviews, June 12, 2010

    DVD teaches new features only.

Before you buy, do be aware that this DVD covers ONLY the NEW Features in Vegas 10. If you are looking for general introduction to Vegas Pro, as I was, this is not the DVD for you (or me). And assuming that you are interested in only one or two of the new features, do realize that you'll be paying nearly $75 for perhaps 6 or 12 minutes of instruction. That being said, my very quick look at the DVD (before returning it) suggests a competent, albeit not very inspiring, level of instruction. 2/5 Bruce P. Crash, crash, and Crash

I started with SV 9, then 10, and now 11. First, I am Sony's biggest fan. I own 3 sony video cameras, SV consumer and pro, and I promote Sony. But SVP 11 is the worst product I have ever used by sony. It is unstable, crashes whenever I use FXs and I can't even use the NEW Blue titler. If you don't save your work product every 3 seconds, you will lose your work. I am comitted to Sony, but I refuse to give them anymore money until they improve. I would not recommend this and I strongly encourage everyone to stay away from this. SVP 10 is Awesome! Save money, lost time

I own Sony Vegas Pro 9 - legal license! I love the features in Sony Vegas. Awesome product. Wide range of format support. Easy to edit. Powerful non-linear features, keying possibilities and more. EXCELLENT SUPPORT. I must give Sony support the credit for that. However, all the time saved by having these powerful features is CANCELLED by the number of times this software freezes, hangs or simply bombs. This might happen due to the use of images sequences, different video formats in one project, velocity curves and much more. This has reached the point where we are now moving to another editing package - simply to look for better stability.Suffice to say that with all the problems, I'm not keen to upgrade to newer versions of the software. 1/5 3D animator - See all my reviews This review is from: Vegas Pro 11.0 (CD-ROM) I own Sony Vegas Pro 9 - legal license! He's a Vegas Pro Fan

My husband has been using Vegas Pro for many many years. The 2006 computer he had it on finally went to Sony heaven and he needed a new program able to be used on Windows 7 OS so I bought the Vegas Pro 11.0. My husband writes a lot of music, plays all the instruments, and produces the finished product on CDs/DVDs. For him, this system is the bomb! He has not encountered any crash problems (knock on wood)as others have noted. But to be fair, he has not used all the features of this program yet. He looks forward to another six + years of using Vegas Pro 11.0. 4/5 Duchess - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I have used several different generations of Movie Studio in the past, and the programs have always been reliable until I changed my operating system to Windows 7 64 bit. My last version of Movie Studio 8 worked well in Vista 64 bit except for the problem of not being able to read music CDs. When I changed operating systems, it stopped working; it loaded in the same manner as Movie STudio 11 which means it hung up on a certain section of code. I did a Windows compatiblity test on Movie Studio HD 11, and the test said that the programs wasn't compatible! The program is supposed to be compatible with Windows 7! I am very angry; Sony Vegas Movie Studio has been so reliable in the past. 1/5 Macdonald Cory (South San Gabriel, California United States) - See all my reviews, July 14, 2011

    It could be great...

When I first read about this camera, I couldn't wait to get one. Interchangeable lenses, big sensor, tiny size, HD, 14MP stills and more for 2 grand. It sounded to good to be true, and it was.I will say that the shot footage looks great, if there's adequate light. But if you shoot something with a busy, repeated texture, moire patterns show up - very annoying. Other Sony camcorders in this price range show a very useful zebra pattern in areas of blown-out whites, Sony decided to omit that in this camera - weird.Another strange omission is in the still pictures - yes it takes great stills BUT doesn't save them in RAW format, just JPEGs. The lesser cameras in the NEX line save in RAW. Why would Sony do this? It makes no sense. If this thing shot in RAW, Sony would have the hottest camera on the planet.Controls -you can control most of the functions manually, but you have to go through an array of odd menu functions to do it. I understand that... 3/5 Cramertivity (Omaha, NE USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Sony NEXVG10 Full HD Interchangeable Lens Camcorder (Black) (Electronics) When I first read about this camera, I couldn't wait to get one. Fantastic Images from a Wonderful Camera

I read the other reviews and have to shake my head. Only one reviewer even mentioned, and only in passing, what makes this camera so remarkable. It has a huge sensor and creates fantastic images. If what matters to you is the arrangement of the shoulder strap or the layout of the menu, by all means stay away from this camera. If you want interchangeable lens, the ability to shoot shallow depth of field and to create great images, take a closer look. This camera is not for everyone, but it does shoot some amazing video.Video cameras, because of their typically small image sensors, shoot footage that has a very deep depth of field and a limited color range. In recent years many videographers have taken to shooting on DSLRS which have much larger sensors and can produce footage which is far more "filmic" with shallow depth of field and richer colors. The problem is that DSLRs are much better still than video cameras. They are typically limited to shooting for about 12... 5/5 Richard E. Disappointed.

I have used this camera over the course of the last month and I would have to say that in general I am quite disappointed with it. However to begin with I would have to say that there are a number of aspects that relate to this camera that are very pleasing. In relatively low light it has produced an excellent picture and the quality of the microphone is very good. If you use the camera on a tripod it is very good but its use in other contexts is feeling much more problematical.I think that in some ways I am surprised at Sony. I have had great pleasure from a good number of Sony products and that makes me inclined to purchase more of the Sony range. At the same time I have a hard drive high definition recorder that is a pleasure to use from Sony but does not produce the quality of sound nor is it as versatile in low light. With the camera you do get the Vegas premium software which is excellent, though I did purchase the Vegas pro which is a superb piece of... 2/5 Dennis - See all my reviews This review is from: Sony NEXVG10 Full HD Interchangeable Lens Camcorder (Black) (Electronics) I have used this camera over the course of the last month and I would have to say that in general I am quite disappointed with it. My goto Editing Software from now on!

You can check some of my previous postings, even as crazy and memory hungry as Adobe Premier Elements has been I always thought it was the best user interface...just a great simple to understand interface to get things done. Having said that I was not confident in recommending it to countless friends who asked for my recommendation on editing software for their home video. Most of them simply did not have the computing power and memory to overcome Premier Elements memory hog headaches. In addition to Adobe I have used Magix Movie Edit Pro, Corel VideoStudio Pro and Pinnacle Studio. Magix is a second to this new Sony release; however, NOT a close second...just second.I am comfortable now in recommending Sony's Vegas Movie Studio HD. Yes you need some specific computer power and memory but from what I have thrown at it so far (1080P MTS and AVCHD files from my Canon, Samsung and Pentax Camcorders...it has performed flawlessly.I have also enjoyed a... 5/5 L. Great product--loaded with features, but need fast computer

Last summer we bought Movie Platinum 8 and after working on little videos we became so frustrated with the rendering time we gave up even using it last summer and haven't used it since. (It took 14-24 hours to render a video on a dual core operating system (not duo core)!) Finally, this summer we upgraded to a quad core with an i7 processor and Movie Platinum 10 and it made a world of difference. Super fast! Incredible! Software is loaded with features--so much so we haven't begun to look at everything. It also allows you to burn blu-ray. But lesson learned, when it comes to video editing, you just can't cut corners on the computer side of things. Sony should tell you that so you're prepared to spend the extra bucks before buying the software. 5/5 TruthSeeker (Midwest) - See all my reviews This review is from: Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 [OLD VERSION] (DVD-ROM) Last summer we bought Movie Platinum 8 and after working on little videos we became so frustrated with the rendering time we gave up even using it last summer and haven't used it since. Performed flawlessly and meets my needs

After reading countless reviews of HD video editing software I became convinced that no matter which product I purchased, I'd be stuck with a product likely to be unstable and experience frequent crashes.I considered the following candidates:* Corel VideoStudio Pro X2* Pinnacle Studio Plus Version 12* Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10Because of the trial version download option for Sony Vegas Movie Studio I decided on this package. Please note that burning the rendered video requires a second package named DVD Architect Studio.I transferred the AVCHD video from my Sony HDR-CX150 camcorder into the Sony Vegas Movie Studio without any problems. I then created a 20 minute video with added audio track and included a slideshow, and then burned the DVD. I went back several times and edited the video by cutting or adding clips and changing the audio tracks. Every time I burned a new DVD, again without any hiccups. I should point out that the... 5/5 Tony Antony (Plymouth, MI USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 [OLD VERSION] (DVD-ROM) After reading countless reviews of HD video editing software I became convinced that no matter which product I purchased, I'd be stuck with a product likely to be unstable and experience frequent crashes.I considered the following candidates:* Corel VideoStudio Pro X2* Pinnacle Studio Plus Version 12* Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10Because of the trial version download option for Sony Vegas Movie Studio I decided on this package. Good book on Vegas

I bought Vegas 9 from Videoguys in November and it came with zip documentation except the cryptic CD manual that Sony ought not include. I did get a Douglas Spotted Eagle training DVD with the DVD and liked his style and found the information he provided to be of much help, but it didn't go far enough. So I was happy to see this book available.I am new to video although I've worked with digital audio for years and stills in Producer. Every page of this book has useful information that has brought me up to speed on Vegas. I pretty much know what I want to do with the software, but finding it in the manual is impossible -- such as how do you separate a video and audio track? I spent hours looking for the answer in the documentation; I had it in minutes with the Vegad Pro 9 Workshop. The only negative is the book does not cover DVD Architect. So I had to spend another $28 here to get that book. I thought the chapters on the DVD included with the book would cover... 5/5 Carl E. Fantastic Resource For Vegas Pro 9

I've been using Sony Vegas 7.0 for a while now and just upgraded to Vegas Pro 9 a few days ago. I ordered this book because although I feel that I know the program well, I always felt that I could improve my knowledge and workflow so I decided to make the investment.Already I feel as if I've gotten my money's worth. Vegas is packed full of tools that I never had time to learn about let alone actually use. Flipping through the book I've already found clear explanations for tools and functions that I hadn't really used. This is like attending a course. I'm going to through from start to finish although I've already installed the software--I'm breezing through the things that I already know but I'm still picking up some good tips and pointers. So far I'd recommend this book to novices and experienced users alike. 5/5 Richard Gandon (New York) - See all my reviews, December 29, 2009

There is a lot of information in this book. But...the index is useless. I've yet to find anything I was looking for in the index. To find things I have to browse the book. In this day and age, not a good thing so I usually find what I want on the net. With that being the case, the book is of not much value. If you can find it used, I'd recommend it. New?
