Switched fromQuicken 2007 to Money 2008 NO PROBLEMS

I tried upgrading from Quicken 2007 to Quicken 2008 and was unable to do so without errors that caused my new installation to give an error message, remove new changes, and stop the installation.I called Quicken tech support and the guy in India (while nice) could only help me do the same things I'd already done and that did not work. After 2 tries, he said, "I don't have any other ways to help you. Try calling Microsoft and see if they can help you. Here's their 800 number . . . Goodbye!" He hung up on me.I decided to download Money 2008 for their trial period. Money installed immediately and completely! It transferred my Quicken data accurately and fully. (I have used Quicken for at least 16 years and this was a "big" change for me.)I ended-up purchasing Money - on-line - from Microsoft and making my full change to their financial software, within a week from trying Money 2008. I was VERY HAPPY with the way Money worked, its interface, and... 4/5 Dubbie "Tom" (VT USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Money Plus Deluxe - Old Version (CD-ROM) I tried upgrading from Quicken 2007 to Quicken 2008 and was unable to do so without errors that caused my new installation to give an error message, remove new changes, and stop the installation.I called Quicken tech support and the guy in India (while nice) could only help me do the same things I'd already done and that did not work. Same Bugs, same features, only buy if you have to

I gave been using Money 2005 for a while and have not upgraded until now because nothing seems to have changed in the newer versions. A few weeks ago I got a message saying that on-line services were no longer supported for my version and I had to buy a new version to get it working again.I did this and installed the new version. I was not able to tell that I had upgraded because I could not see any new features. I had to go to help about to check it this was really the new version running becuase everything else looks the same. The only new feature from my "three versions behind" version is that there are a couple of graphs that can be displayed outside money but I am not sure how much that will be used.I was hoping that some of the bugs that have been in the system had been fixed but they have not. The one I dislike most is that it gets completely confused when you short sell stocks. When you close a short position it will add that as a cost next to your... 3/5 Paul Beerkens "tinnyb" - See all my reviews, September 27, 2007

I've using Microsoft Money 2004 since it came out; and before that, I used Money 98. Money 2004 recently started warning me that Microsoft will no longer be updating its online synchronization capabilities so I downloaded the trial version of Money Plus Deluxe to try it out.Money Plus supports automated downloading of bills for banks that, over the last few years, have stopped working with Money 2004. It seems to offer the same basic features as 2004, and I haven't noticed any features that make this a better product. The interface has been tweaked slightly here and there. The one thing I liked is it clearly displays the bank's balance next to the locally calculated balance for each account. Other than that, it seems to just be a change in the colors and icons. This biggest change to me is that, unlike Money 2004, Money Plus rarely matches downloaded transactions correctly with existing hand-entered transactions, previously downloaded transactions, or... 1/5 anselor (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Money Plus Deluxe - Old Version (CD-ROM) I've using Microsoft Money 2004 since it came out; and before that, I used Money 98. Good program if used carefully

I have been using MS Money for several years now and it has been a good experience. The improvements from year to year are modest. There are still reasons to upgrade though. First, each version of Money is only good for two years of online services. These services include price quotes for stocks and mutual funds, banking services, and so forth. Second, if you upgrade only once in many years, then the program might have trouble performing the update for you. It has to convert your computer file of financial history to a new format (it changes every year).I have started a discussion topic "How to enjoy Microsoft Money" that is visible on the product page. This topic explains how I have avoided serious problems using Money. The most significant competitor to Money is Intuit Quicken. Both programs are good. Recent versions of Quicken became increasingly restrictive about exporting data from the program. That is what prompted me to switch to Money. 4/5 David Arnstein (California) - See all my reviews, December 10, 2007

    Not Great - Not Bad

I've really come to the conclusion that there is not much else whiz-bang you can add to Money and Microsoft has come to the same conclusion. The product really has not changed much since '02. The reason I bought this version? I had to, my 2 years were up from my '06 version. Microsoft stops you from downloading account updates after two years.Pluses:- good product, not as buggy as older new release versionsMinuses:- previous reviewer correct, previous owners of Money are not allowed to use the credit reporting feature- nothing really new. I've only noticed a new way to budget (and it is just OK)- one of my accounts was valued at $30 million after converting, I looked at the details of the account and deleted the suspicious entry and re-entered it, that fixed it (repair did not work)- have to purchase again in two years (I'm assuming), to continue to download account updatesI guess I wished I just purchased the deluxe version... 3/5 doner (Poway, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Microsoft Money Plus Premium (CD-ROM) I've really come to the conclusion that there is not much else whiz-bang you can add to Money and Microsoft has come to the same conclusion. Not worth upgrading

I have been using MS Money since 1994. I usually upgrade every 3 years to get the new features. I was forced to upgraded to Money Plus (2008) since the newer versions of Money only allow 2 years of online access.I am a power user of Money, tracking 31 accounts with nearly all of them automatically updated via the online update feature. I use Money 3 times a week. The upgrade looks exactly the same as Money 2006. Even after looking at the 'New' features that have been added in Money Plus, I find the changes to be very, very weak. The one change I have noticed is the time to open my Money file has increased from <1 min in Money 2006 to over 4 minutes with Money Plus (2008). I am not sure why there is an issue with the new version. I have archived my data from 1994 to 2003 and have ran the repair utility, neither of which helped the performance. If I was not required to upgrade because of the two year subscription limit, I would not see... 2/5 Rich (Wildwood, Macau) - See all my reviews, October 1, 2007

So, after using Microsoft Money Plus Home and Business, I found it to be a rather robust program. The reporting methods, categorizing, connections into the financial institutions, etc. are excellent. I have been a user of both quicken (for business) and money (for personal) for years. I am glad they have finally merged the two properly. It meets the needs of my small business as well as my personal finance and investments. I would recommend to anyone. As for the review from C:I am finding the user rating system on Amazon becoming less and less useful by the day. Charles gives the software a bad rating, not because of his experience with the functionality of the product, but the time line in which the BETA and the production version were released. There are reasons why they call it BETA and you should have known the risks prior to using it as a production software. I have used Microsoft Money for many years. I ordered to upgrade my current version, Money 2003. If you want to organize your finances in one place and have the power to plan for the future, this is the product for you. The automatic secure online backup and integration with Microsoft Passport are two of my favorite features. Other features include sections for Investing (with live stock price tracking, etc.), Reports, Taxes, and Planning, to name a few. This version of Money is even more user-friendly than previous versions, which were already excellent as they were, in my opinion. 5/5 ouit - See all my reviews This review is from: Microsoft Money Plus Home and Business [Old Version] (CD-ROM) I have used Microsoft Money for many years. Could be better, but better than Quicken 2009

I have been a long time Quicken user. Quicken 98 and many uneventful upgrades. But with this last upgrade to Quicken 2009, I'm throwing in the towel.I bought Microsoft money plus H and B because I was desperately looking for something better.I have all of 2007 and 2008 transactions on both programs. Almost 2000 transactions on each program. Hands down I think MicoMoney is a better program. Categories are much easier to keep clean and work with. The program has not gotten full of its self and is still real clean and simple. There are a lot of little things that i will miss with Quicken but not enough to go back. The reports have a very professional look. Upgrade? Quicken 2011 = more ads + less features = FAIL

It was bad enough when Quicken simply littered your desktop with icons linking to Quicken Loans, Free Credit Reports (which are never free) and a sundry of other financial pay-to-play products. Now they've taken things to a whole new level with ads literally BUILT INTO the GUI (Graphic User Interface: the 'skin' with which you engage with the program). An example: in the new 'refinance calculator' there is a large banner ad for CHASE BANK. The refinance calculator itself is poor and majorly inferior to free ones available online, but more on that later. I don't expect to pay upwards of $50.00 for a piece of software that contains banner ads! That is simply unacceptable. In freeware, I understand it, but not in something I paid full retail for!Adding insult to injury, INTUIT has actually removed one of the best features of previous Quicken releases, the CASH FLOW monthly chart. They've replaced it with a projected balances chart which is ugly, harder to read, and doesn't... 1/5 Nathan Beauchamp "ConsumerAdvocate" (Oak Park, IL USA) - See all my reviews, November 5, 2010

    Removed Most Important Feature

I have been a loyal user of Quicken since 1994 and upgraded whenever each new version was released. This is the first time that I have returned the product. One of the features that I use every day is the Cash Flow center in the Planning tab. This has been removed. It is completely incomprehensible to me why they would remove this feature. At a glance, it completely encapsulated my cash flow for the month, both graphically and numerically. Their new "Projected Balances" feature is completely inferior. When I checked out the Quicken forums to find out where it had been hidden, my worst fears were confirmed about its removal. There was discussion about Quicken attempting to simply the product, but I don't understand why they have to remove features for the savvy user. My fear is that this feature is gone for good and I will be stuck with Quicken 2010 until they no longer support it! 1/5 Twilight - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Not sure it is worth the trouble

Some things have improved with Quicken 2011, some things seem not to work as well as previous versions and things quicken can't couldn't do in the past it still can't do.Negatives (after a couple of days):1) If you trade options or anything but the most mundane investment products, forget about tracking them in Quicken. Prior versions couldn't do it and 2011 can't either. I dont' even bother to download invesmtent transactions anymore. It's easier to track them in excel. At least I can download option quotes in excel. Forget it in quicken.2) Downloading credit card / bank transactions has become more cumbersome with each new version of quicken. It's almost to the point where it just isn't worth it anymore. A major issue for me is an almost complete inability of quicken to correctly match downloaded transactions. Even though I have no transactions that need to be matched, quicken just arbitrarily (seems that way anyway) picks old transactions to... 2/5 spinningwood - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) So So, probably don't need to upgrade

So Amazon started selling the digital download on Oct 1, the physical item starts shipping Oct 4 and the product still isn't called out on the manufacture's website. Select a product from their product list and it still takes you to the 2011 version. Can't be that big of an improvement if the company isn't even promoting it on their website. Makes you wonder. Here is how my first hour went. After purchase I had the software downloaded and installed with-in 20-30 minutes. Prompted by the first step of the welcome screen I began setting up my accounts. At first I wasn't sure what was happening because it would saying it's connecting and getting data. Then the screen would disappear and start all over. I Finally figure out that it has to access each checking, savings, or credit card account individually even though it's all under the same user account. So what appeared as being stuck in a loop / bug was really just poor programming design. The process picked up my... 3/5 Jeremy Johnson (Washington State) - See all my reviews, October 4, 2011

Same crap as the last two versions...

Quicken 2012 is a buggy disappointment. Each year Intuit changes the look a little bit, adds one trivial feature, breaks a few things, then ships it like it's a "new product". And each year like a sheep I buy it, thinking "this time it'll be worth it". About half the time, I ask for my money back.I am trying 2012 after using 2010 for the last two years. Honestly, I would try something else... but sadly there *is* nothing else. The look is a little nicer than 2010, and everything else is very much the same... except for these bugs, which I saw in the first 15 minutes of use:Bugs:1) When you are entering a transaction as a transfer, it shows *all* your accounts... even closed accounts or accounts that you have marked as "hide". This is clearly a huge bug and a huge hassle. Nice quality control.2) When you look at a budget item in a montly view, then click on a budget item... it shows an unsorted list of items from many... 2/5 Robert W. Total Disaster. Avoid.

I'm a compulsive upgrader so I pulled the trigger on this. Wish I hadn't. I spent a lot of time setting up monthly budgets (i.e. where I could easily track household monthly spending). When you click on the prgress bar in the "new" budgets, it gives you not the amount you have spent that month, but the last 3 months instead. Totally useless. Also - not all of my stocks automatically update anymore - i have to click on the security and hit "upate." Not helpfulFinally, a weird bug - each day it gives me a weird message saying "Looks like your system clock has changed (yeah - the previous day ended and the new one began)"Would you like to restart Quicken?"This used to be the best finance software - no longer. Not new, but a great program

As many of the other reviewers have mentioned, there are not a ton of new features in Money 2007. However, as a user of Money 2002 and Quicken 2006, there are several upgrades over M02, and I am very pleased with M07. Having used M02 for about 3-4 years, I decided to upgrade so that I could take advantage of the online banking/statements features offered for the newer programs. With everyone and everything referring to Quicken while speaking of financial software (much the way people refer to a "Kleenex" for tissue), I figured that I would give it a shot with Quicken 2006. Having spent the last 8 months or so using Q06, it had some good things about it, and some annoying things (the budget isn't very workable, no reallocation between budget items so if you go over in one, you can't "borrow" from another item to balance your budget. The investment updates aren't as complete as with M07, either. These are just a few.) With everyone and everything referring to Quicken while speaking of financial software (much the way people refer to a "Kleenex" for tissue), I figured that I would give it a shot with Quicken 2006. Having spent the last 8 months or so using Q06, it had some good things about it, and some annoying things (the budget isn't very workable, no reallocation between budget items so if you go over in one, you can't "borrow" from another item to balance your budget. The investment updates aren't as complete as with M07, either. These are just a few.) Deciding that I would see what was available on the Money... Performance is harassment and functionality is faulty

I am a seasoned user of "Microsoft Money" since 2001 and used Money-2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007 versions. On the subject of convenience and integration of multiple financial activities, Money (and for that matter even Quicken) does a fantastic job. However, with 4-5 years of usage of 'Money', my money file has grown to nearly 19MB. Due to the large file size, I am getting pathetic performance which is quite annoying. I have a laptop with 2.4GHz dual core CPU and 1GB RAM, however very basic activity such as looking at monthly report, budget report etc. takes 2-3 minutes to display on the screen ! Even if I retry, it once again hangs for 2-4 minutes. I will be lucky if I could get 'any' operation finished faster then 5 seconds/transaction. The problem isn't with specific version but the way Money is designed to store its information. There were some discussion on improving performance by using money data on Database but Microsoft chose not to invest money on any such design... 2/5 . So So, probably don't need to upgrade

Maybe they are spending all of their time and money on the online version? In any event, stay with the version you have, save the money. 1/5 B. Totally agree w/ first poster

As noted in the first post, if you have any other version of Quicken, you will end up shilling out another $30 or more to open your file via an upgrade. I am a mobilized Army soldier away from home. When my laptop gave out and I replaced it, I restored my data files to the new laptop. As I don't have access to my original software (at my house) I thought I would just go ahead and buy the starter version (which has everything I need) to use with my .QDF file. Wrong! The starter version won't open or read my "deluxe" version file. Hence, another $30 spent on the "upgrade". Now I know why Quicken was "free" when MS Money discontinued their software... I am very disappointed in this company and feel totally taken advantage of. 1/5 Kathy - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This product sucks!

One would think that after 20-ish years of developing the premier accounting software they would work out the most basic, annoying and dysfunctional kinks...but not with this proiduct. Despite having read other reviews warning me that the product does not sync properly with "supported" banks, I bought the product. Within 20 minutes of download, it is absolutely worthless as it will not sync with multiple accounts from the same bank (i.e. checking AND savings). So, finding out how poor this product is was lesson #1. Lesson #2 was learning that Amazon will not allow you to return downloadable software purchases, so I am stuck with a purchase that is worthless. Shame on you Quicken and Amazon for selling this product. 1/5 reasonable guy - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Yawn!

1 - No difference that I can find over 2005. Funny thing is that I said this with my 2005 from 2004 version purchase! I guess I will never learn, I'm a sucker for the lastest and greatest Money software. Really, you do not need this if you have 2005, you can live without backing up to CD/DVD.2 - I have not found any bugs. You are thinking, Ya, so? If you were an early adopter of 2005 (the buggiest POS that MS Money put out), you would have seen this a huge achievement also.Summary - nothing really exciting over the previous 2 versions, wait for the free offer with your tax software next year. If you are new to personal finance software, you really need to get this. 4/5 doner (Poway, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Microsoft Money 2006 Deluxe [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM) 1 - No difference that I can find over 2005. Try before you buy! Where are the new features?

I am glad I read the reviews before buying that told me to run the trial before buying. The program does not offer anything additional from the Money 2004 Deluxe I am currently using for budgeting, expense tracking, investment tracking, and planning. I am a loyal Money user for over 6+ years. I will stick with Money 2004 even though 2006 can be had for free after rebates.Pros:-Installed without a problem and seems to run pretty smoothly/fast without consuming a lot of CPU resources.-Converted my file without a problem (Make a copy of your file if you are just trying out the program. Keep your existing data file safely away so Money 2006 cannot corrupts it by accident.)-Nice new interface. Fresh new colors. Navigation not made more difficult...does not mean navigation is easier.Cons:-NO NEW useful features! I use Money 2004 to do a lot of tracking, trending, and analysis. Do not buy, before you try it out!

As a long-time Money user I bought Money 2005 Deluxe and had to return it for a refund, because it refused to read my Money 2004 data file. With Money 2006 I'll be smarter and take advantage of the fact that Microsoft offers a 90 day trial version on their website. So before you buy or upgrade, download the trial and check for yourself, if Money 2006 is for you.BTW if you upgrade from a previous version, keep a backup-copy of your old file, because once you convert your file to Money 2006, an older version of Money won't be able to read it. For the same reason, consider parallel installations (and double data-maintenance) of the Money 2006 trial and your older version for a while, until you've determined to upgrade to M2006 or ditch it. 2/5 tangofan (Mountain View, CA USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Microsoft Money 2006 Deluxe [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM) As a long-time Money user I bought Money 2005 Deluxe and had to return it for a refund, because it refused to read my Money 2004 data file. With Money 2006 I'll be smarter and take advantage of the fact that Microsoft offers a 90 day trial version on their website. Valuable Time-Saving Guide

If you own "Money 2005 for Dummies", you don't need "Money 2006 for Dummies", because the editorial content appears to be virtually identical in the two books. However, this manual is a real time-saver if you're trying to learn to navigate the powerful Microsoft Money program.Microsoft Money has an unusually unfriendly user interface that hides locations for tools and custom-user settings in many unlikely places. Accessing the Microsoft help files requires going online, and the online files--written in the usual unhelpful Microsoft style--do not answer power-user questions. This book provides a desktop reference that aids you in setting up your initial financial files, and in understanding how the Money program is put together, so that you can quickly take full advantage of the multitude of wonderful things that the Money program can do for you. 5/5 Lynne E.
