  A straightforward, clear, and thorough practical introduction to Flash Professional CS5

  I'm pretty familiar with several of the Adobe Creative Suite programs, but I could never quite figure out Flash Professional, at least in the few times I opened it and tried to play around with it. On the one hand, it seems like a content design and animation program; on the other hand, it seems like it's a visual programming interface. Because of that, the timeline doesn't quite work the way you'd expect if you come to it from programs like or . If you want to animate something, for example, you have to create what's called a "motion tween" and each animated object has to have it's own unique "motion tween" layer.   Get something else to view PDF files

  This offical adobe app is very stripped down. There are much better soultions to viewing PDF documents on your phone. Also, why does adobe think its ok to scan all storage folders?   The easiest way to learn flash

  I have never used Flash before I read this. I got this because I thought it would be better than taking a course, and I was right. Not only is it much cheaper than taking a course, but it gives just as much information if not more about Flash. I am only thirteen and I fully understood the book and thought it was easy to read. It comes with a helpful DVD with the most important parts of each of the fifteen lessons, however it doesn't contain everything in the book. The book explains all of the concepts of Flash from the basics to the advanced all in step by step instructions. It contains everything you need to know about Flash like animation, actionscript, using imported files from photoshop, and navigation controls. I personally am learning Flash so I can create animations and build a website using Flash and I found out everything I need to know and more about that and all the other uses of Flash. whether you have Windows or Macintosh it has the controls for either one.   This is a great resource for a wide range of Flash users. If you are a beginner, this is a great book with easy to follow step by step instructions that include full color images along with supplemental video tutorials. The book covers items from beginning animation to action script and including audio and video into your Flash projects. The instructions are written for PC and Mac.I have used Flash since the old MX version and have gone through many upgrades; this book is good reference tool for learning the new features in CS5. I'm a working professional with no time to take a classes to keep up with the new features in the new creative suite; so this is like having a classroom at my fingertips.Although there is a lot of helpful information on Action Script in here; this is probably not a book advanced coders would use.   I've read enough of this book to recommend it to others. With one MAJOR caution. To date, I've not been able to find any way to obtain the example files that normally come with the DVD. I bought the electronic version to read on my Xoom and it works ok... the electronic version lacks a table of contents but the index is nicely hyperlinked and the book is fully searchable with my Kindle reader on the Xoom.Just missing the files on the DVD... which I normally rely on heavily as I work through something like this.Wrote to the publisher but no response so far. I'll update this review if anything changes with this situation.Seems to me that if I don't get the same experience with an eReader version that I get with a dead-tree version, it should be discounted even further than it normally is discounted.   I'm going to keep this review short: If you've created a few animations in Flash, and are ready to become an expert, this is your book. It won't teach you how to use Flash, but rather how to become an advanced Flash animator.Specific examples: * The 6 pages on Walk Cycle and Advance Walk Cycle are awesome. Finally a simple way to make characters look right when they are walking. * Four pages on lip syncing! For me, the Character Animation chapter alone was worth the price of the book. * The chapter on Flash Video is a real eye opener, although too brief. I had no idea that Flash was used to create feature length animation for television, but it is. * The Masking chapter was particularly instructive for me. I wasn't paying attention on Masking day in Photoshop class, so it's always been somewhat mysterious for me. After just a few basic tutorials (class hasn't started yet), I am very impressed with what this software can do.As far as student verification, it could not have been easier or faster. I simply went to the web site provided inside the package and filled out the form using the provided product code. After sending the information, I went to my school email inbox right away and the serial # was already waiting for me there. My experience with the student version of Photoshop was the same. I think the big help in this matter is that the school I am attending is on Adobe's list and I have a school email account.   I had some issues proving to the seller that I was a student of North Central Texas College. They said that they didn't receive my proof of enrollment and I had to resend it through a different link but one I got my serial code to unlock the program, it worked as advertised. Read the instructions carefully about proving your enrollment in your learning institution. You will not get the serial code unless you prove your enrollment. This is one of five manuals I purchased to try and boot camp myself into at least a proficiency in Flash. I found this book to be the clearest, most easily understood text out of the five. I worked through the book from start to finish and also completed the "Missing Manual CD" downloads that came with the book. The author is careful to describe fully the procedures he wants the student to follow and creates an environment where the student can examine and appreciate the power and options that are inherent in Flash.   Good Book, Complete for the Conventional Flash Features

  §Adobe products, all that I have encountered, set some sort of standard for abysmal documentation. In fact, a whole industry has arisen to instruct people in the basics of such software as Photoshop and Flash. Since people have complained about this for years, it is clear that adequate online and printed manuals are not a corporate priority for Adobe.It is good that we have books such as this one from O'Reilly to ease the burden of learning the basics and finding out how to take advantage of new version features for those who have mastered the basics. I think most people reading this short review know what Flash is all about so I won't belabor the point by enumerating all the topics in these 700+ pages.   This is a great book for beginners. It touches on everything and even has a short intro to Adobe Air. It goes into detail explaining things, where a lot of other books just tell you to do what they say without a reason as to why you are doing it.
