  CS4 smooths out a lot of the rough edges of CS3

  Lots of great updates in this release.Bridge has gone from a product I never even opened in CS3 to a program I use even more than the Finder is CS4 (when searching Adobe files.) I have two major gripes still. Bridge's smart collections are painfully slow where smart folders in the finder are very fast. Also Bridge is unable to detect Photoshop files that are located in the iPhoto library. Bridge can find other formats from with in iPhoto library just not Photoshop. Unfortunately that is the format I primarily use.Flash currently crashes for me whenever I make a symbol so I haven't been able to use it much at all. That being said that are making great steps to simplifying the interface. Action Script is still unnecessarily complicated.Illustrator has multiple artboards like FreeHand did except it works a lot better.   Pretty awesome learning tool for beginners.

  First of all i would highly recommend this to any one who's somewhat new to the adobe programs and would like to see how most of the basic(and even some of the more advanced features work)tools and features work for this suite. This is NOT a reference guide! this is meant to teach people the basics and make it stick. I had purchased the Dummies book for this suite as well and that is a reference book in my opinion.Bottom line - If you are looking for a way to learn this suite i highly recommend getting this book/Digital classroom. If you have previous experience with the previous suites u may want to just get a reference like the dummies book that highlights the new features and fixes(or that is a pain in the butt compared tot he older versions). 5/5 Thomas O.   excellent overview for new users

  As a hobbiest with html and infrequent user of Photoshop and even less with Illustrator, I wanted a solid learning resource for all major programs in this suite. Too much detail boggs me down and too little isn't worthwhile. I highly recommend this text especially for new users or those with really early versions of Adobe. Many new and easy-to-use tools in CS4! The included CD offers 5-7 minute videos showing an advance peak at what you'll be learning before doing each lesson in the book. This helps with following the written text. Consequently, I've moved through the book fairly quickly. But now I feel a bit confused trying to keep the applications separate. I think it's better to focus on a few applications you know you'll use - then do them repetively so you remember the steps! Then later explore some of the other applications.   I have no trouble buying a book for Dummies when it come to my lack of skills with the Adobe design programs and am happy to take any help I can get. And while this all-in-one book covers all of the programs from InDesign CS4 to Photoshop CS4 to Dreamweaver CS4 to Flash CS4, it is at least somewhat helpful in navigating the programs. Unfortunately, I run into the same problem in this text as I have with others available online- a lack of adequate information to tell me if this is an appropriate guide to one who is new to the Adobe programs. They all tout themselves as the perfect tool for beginners, but the reverse is usually true. Either that or I am an unredeemable dummy.I find that if I read carefully through the chapters of each program I am interested in, I can understand the basic nature of that program. But when I want to do specific tasks, I can not get that information.   At work I have Adobe Master Collection installed on both a Windows machine and an OSX machine. For home, I don't need that much manpower but I do need Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, and Dreamweaver so this package is perfect.These programs are industry standards for design and web applications and are the ones used by the experts. Anyone shopping for this software should already be familiar with what the applications do, and, hopefully, how to use them. They should also have a powerful enough machine to handle this software. Otherwise, there are plenty of simpler, cheaper (even free) programs that will meet their needs.I would not consider criticizing CAD software or statistical packages because I wouldn't know what I was talking about.   Adobe CS5.5 Design Premium Student and Teacher Edition

  Adobe Suite, particularly Photoshop Extended, is simply the best there is in graphic software. I have been using Photoshop since version 6 and have upgraded along the way as I could afford it. For this purchase, I followed 171st paang's advice (be sure to read his review) and downloaded directly from Adobe's web site. To register the software, I uploaded the proper University ID and that's all there was to it. Great software for my purposes, which is photograph restoration and just enhancing my own photos. Friends and family think I'm a great photographer but it's just that I run all of my photos through Photoshop first (they also think I'm a few pounds lighter). It's great fun and if used for professional purposes, it can be a life-saver (didn't noticed the green thing on the bride's tooth when you took the photo?)!   I love illustrator but didn't have the funds to spend 500 dollars on it. When I saw this set I was really excited because it was in my budget and it also provides three other useful programs as well. I ordered this and it arrived the next day. I took the code provided and simply submitted a picture of my school ID, my transcript and an enrollment verification to the provided link and got my code two days later. There was no problems and no hold ups and there is even a 30 day trial you can use while you wait for them to verify that you are a student or a teacher. I looked more into this before I bought it and it is the same as the commercial versions, can be used for commercial use and the only real catch is that you can't resell it.   I was so excited to upgrade from my Creative Suites CS2, with this new CS5.5 version. I read that now InDesign had the ability to create epub books. unfortunately it does not seem to be able to do much there or I have yet to learn how to make them come out just right. So that was disappointing, thus the four stars, not five. But that said everything else is wonderful!No longer do I have to bring in guide lines to find center because the program now just does it!   When I purchased this book, I was under the impression that it was a tutorial for all of the programs in the software suite. It is, but it only touches on some of the features within each program: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Acrobat and Adobe Bridge. If you want to learn how to use Photoshop (like I did), you have to get Adobe Photoshop CS4 Classroom In A Book.   Well, this is something that should have been enclosed with the Adobe CS4 Design Premium Suite software when I purchased it... Really, it is more of an overview of the software package and its capabilities, very basic tutorials just illustrate the features. Come on, Adobe, when people pay $1,500+ for your software suite, you can throw in a manual like this in the shipment box for free! (PS: for those who do not own the software -- the software box includes just the DVDs.)I give it 3 stars because the content is decent, but I'm quite PO'ed that I have to pay extra to get my "software manual".
