Age of Empires III: Complete Collection
Video Games (Microsoft)
List Price: $49.95
Enjoyable but AoE2 is more fun
This collection of the basic game and expansions is a good value for Real Time Strategy (RTS) game players. The War Chiefs expansion is ok, campaign short, and not a lot of depth. The Asian Dynasties Expansion is a lot of fun, three campaigns (Japan, India, China), with each nation having their own wonders giving them unique special abilities. The different nations are neat, but not having a United States colonial civilization to choose from in skirmish mode is disappointing, especially after playing the campaign game in War Chiefs. The campaigns are easier to complete and have less depth than Age of Empires II (AoE2). AoE3 campaigns were overall fun, but require much less strategy to win; build one small army to defend your base and when the large army is ready to go, overwhelm the computer. The graphics have improved, but did experienced significant lag and even game freezing at times due to ship combat on the duo-core Thinkpad, even with all graphic options reduced... 4/5 Sci-fi and history reader (NJ, USA) - See all my reviews = Fun:, March 19, 2010One of the best RTS of all time
This game is simply amazing!! and to add all the expansions to the game itself just makes it that much better! The graphics for one is still up to par and its 2010! even when the cannons shoot there is realistic smoke comming out. The gameplay is very smooth on and offline! you dont have to have an internet connection to play this game in single player and its sad to say that many games now including starcraft 2 has to have an internet connection to be able to play it. The campaign is long especially with all the expansions The sound is great The online mode is simply flawless, i have been deployed in afghanistan and we have really slow internet, and to say that it runs smooth is just awesome! we have tried many other games online but sadly they do not run no were near as smooth. There is also lan for those of you who want to lan with buddies and play many at once. It is constantly being updated and patched so the game cannot recieve anything... 4/5 Drag - See all my reviews = Fun:, July 30, 2010Very Fun... But Doesn't Last
For some reason, I never had my expectations set very high when it came to this game, and so, I held out on buying it until recently, when I noticed I could get this complete collection at such a great price. Perhaps it was because of the industrialization- something I detest whenever it somehow sneaks into a fantasy RPG which I often play. Maybe it was just because the formula for the Age series was already done, done again, then done again after that. Or most likely, I have always been terrible at real-time strategy games and found them frustrating, but fun at the same time. I guess I wanted something new, but still wanted something I knew I'd have fun with. And I did get that. When I first started, I was very pleased at a lot of the new features that added more depth to the Age series' formula. The game is largely played in the same way as previous Age games, but with more depth and strategy. While a lot tend to compare it to Age of Empires 2, this game has most in... 5/5 Arseface (Marysville, Washington) - See all my reviews = Fun:, December 15, 2011Industrial Age units like rifled infantry, cavalry and tall ships bristling with cannonsNew game-play elementsSpectacular combatStunning scenes -

The Best Games for the Best Price! A Must-Buy!
First of all, I would just like to say that this is such a good deal. I mean, ten dollars for the first two games AND both of their expansion packs? You can get "Age of Empires 2: The Age of Kings Gold Edition" with its expansion "The Conquerors" for 20 dollars, or get this set, which includes all that AND the original Age of Empires with the "Rise of Rome" expansion for ten dollars less! Think about it. Ten less dollars for much more? Its a miracle in the form of a computer game set if you ask me. Ah, on to the games themselves.Age of Empires:A true classic, this game has to be one of the most fun games ever put out. Though the graphics are nothing dazzling, who cares? I have spent endless hours on this game, and beaten every campaign in it. If you don't want to play a full campaign, the random map games are equally as fun! The replay value of this game is also amazing. It seems more fun every time you play it, and its impossible to get sick of! The only part... 5/5 Jack Keely (New England) - See all my reviews = Fun:, August 31, 2007Great strategy game -- will run on even older computers
This game has achieved the status of a classic. For fans of strategy games, the AoE series is a must. What's more, this game will run on even older computers -- check the system requirements to see whether your old PC is up to snuff. 5/5 R. Q. Clark (Salt Lake City, UT) - See all my reviews, February 2, 2007High End Users Beware!
First of all I give this collection five stars in the FUN rating because I love Age of Empires, I have since I started using a computer way back in '97. My two star rating goes for this collection because I haven't been able to get it to play yet on my High End machine.High End Users beware of this one. If you've got XP, you'll likely run into the same problem I've had. "Cannot initialize graphics" error. I've done what they've suggested in the FAQ and on the Microsoft Support, but no go so far. It says to reset the display resolution to 800x600 and set compatability to 256 color mode, but so far no luck for some reason. I'm runnig a Radeon 9800 on an Athlon 2600+ and XPPro SP2.The game is great, but keep these problems in mind. It says XP on the box too, but don't be too hopeful that it will work on the first try, you may have to do some tweaking to get it to work at all if you're on a high-end PC. Just keep that in mind and be smart, it's a great deal for... 5/5 Sarah Russell "Adaria" (Satsuma, FL) - See all my reviews = Fun:, March 28, 2007Age of Empires and Age of Empires II Complete with all ExpansionsIncludes: Age of Empires; Age of Empires Rise of Rome Expansion;Age of Empires II : Age of Kings Gold Edition;Age of Empires II Conquerors Expansion -

A successful installment in the Age of Empires Saga
When I sat down with Age of Empires 3 I was hoping for a little more - something new and refreshingly different (ala the Lord of the Rings RTS for example). There is a new feature, the Home City. The rest of Age of Empires 3 is the same as the previous games at heart, with some new makeup and some new units. Don't get me wrong, this new Age of Empires installment is fun and just as addictive as its predecessors, but also feels tired at the same time. If you still enjoy the previous Age of Empires games, you will likely enjoy this one equally. It has been some time since I played the previous Age of Empires 2 but I remembered a simple, relatively clean interface. In Age of Empires 3 I was a little taken aback by the clutter of information, and juggling Home City shipments (and Deck Building) with what was happening on screen requires a lot of micro-management.This new installment has some great civilizations and in this regard, the units are new and... 4/5 JD (Provo, Utah USA) - See all my reviews = Fun:, October 18, 2005Lackluster, but not without potential
I agree with the other reviews citing this as being something of a letdown at first glance.Edit for graphical update:I originally found the graphics on this game to be lackluster. My system couldn't run it in remotely full detail and still be playable, so my game didn't look anything like the screenshots. So I did what any good gamer would do: bought a new system. Incredibly, even on a brand new fully speced out Alienware system with AMD 4000+ 64-bit processor, 2 gigs of RAM, and dual video cards (SLI, PCI Express) I *still* couldn't run the game in high resolution, high detail. It looks pretty but it chops when I try to scroll the screen. I think something is just plain broken with this game. Other games run awesome on the new system, but not this game. Conclusion: you will never, ever play this game with it looking as good as it does on the screenshots. Yes, those are some mighty pretty trees but it's not going to be as pretty when you adjust down... 4/5 Pecos Bill (Gaithersburg, MD United States) - See all my reviews = Fun:, October 20, 2005Good enough, but I expected more after six years
If you have never played any of the Age of Empires games before, then AOE 3 will probably seem pretty nifty. Judged strictly on its own merits, there isn't particularly anything wrong with the game in and of itself. However, there isn't much here that we haven't seen before. We waited six years, and this is the best they could do, apparently. The graphics are very nice. However, is that enough to sustain one's interest. As other reviewers have noted, the combat quickly disintegrates into a disorganized slugfest, which really makes no sense to me. "Rise of Nations" certainly managed to provide combat sequences that were reasonably organized. It is frustrating to spend money on what are presumably well-trained troops, only to see them break ranks at the first hint of combat. The naval combat is a joke --- two ships firing broadsides at each other, with no attempts at maneuver. Anyone who has played "Port Royale" will know that one can expect better than this... 4/5 chefdevergue (Spokane, WA United States) - See all my reviews, November 15, 2005Recover buried treasure from the Caribbean, hunt bison on the Great Plains, compete for trade routes and fortify the coast of New EnglandWork with Native Americans to your tactical advantage, for the first time everDevelop your own Home City, and customize it make it wealthier and more powerful as you take over EuropeStart out playing as the British and begin with a solid economy, or lead the French into an easy alliance with Native Americans - 8 total civilizations to choose fromExplore the New World and create colonies while seeking out new resources and making alliances with the Native Americans -

Perfect
The Age of Empires, Age of Kings, Age of Mythology series is definitely the best ever sires of real time strategy games. In all versions of the game you are allowed to control both the armies and economies of your nation. You can build buildings, creature soldiers or peasants, even priests. Your peasants you command to do the different menial tasks such as farming, mining, and building castles. While your armies roam the land either defending your peasants, sieging enemy castles, or raiding their peasants. Priest have the power to convert both peasants and soldiers. If you like being king of the world, this is for you. Finally, I just want to differentiate between the games. Age of Empires is the oldest of the games and should run on any computer, but I wouldn't recommend the game without either the Rise of Rome Expansion Pack or just buying the Age of Empires Gold Edition. These two correct many problems with the original Age of Empires. Age of Empires, in my view, is a perfect strategy game. What else can you expect from the creators of DOS, Windows 3.1, 95, 98 and 2000 (That would be Microsoft of course :))Ok we'll start with the playabilty. I don't think there's any game or series I have played more than AoE. The possibilites are endless... what about a deathmatch with victory conditions set to conquest for a huge game. Add a little twist... pick large islands for your map type and barricade your island by building watch towers and a wall all around it. Oh, and then build up a mighty fleet of juggernauts (ships) and attack by sea. Or how about choosing eight player mode and allying with a few of them, then unselecting the Fixed Positions option and placing your civilization next to your allies. For a touch of reality why not play Persians versus Greeks? I could go on forever... Then we have graphics and audio. The graphics are beautiful, the objects are solid so you don't get that annoying... 5/5 Sara Saab - See all my reviews This review is from: Age of Empires (CD-ROM) Age of Empires, in my view, is a perfect strategy game. This game has it all. Different types of units, decent graphics, and TONS of possible strategies. The fun part about this game is that there are soo many possiblities. The newer games like AOE2 are just too balanced. There aren't any strategies besides a typical well-balanced army. But in AOE, anything can win. That's the beauty of it. It's not overly balanced. The game isn't going for realism, it's going for fun. For instance, there is a strategy where you can win with a cavalry rush. Attacks with one kind of unit work in AOE. But not in AOE2. The possilibty of an extremely early rush in this game are slim, but are still possible. This game is truly a masterpiece. And if you want to play online, OK! There are usually around 2,000 people playing this game on the Microsoft internet gaming zone. Buy this game, you won't be dissappointed. 5/5 0, June 20, 2000 -

Age of Empires Collector's Edition
Age of Empires Collector's Edition is the best strategy I've ever played. This special edition lets you to play AoE I, II, and it's expansions. If you love strategy games this is your best selection because all four games of Age of Empires are bundled together to let you the maximum out the strategy game. With the sound tracks, which included on the same disk with the four games, you can enjoy the tracks that you mostly like. These four games of Empires let you fell the king in the game and attack your enemies with the full power and watch their defeat. When you choose the hardest level you can be prepared for a very tough game, which can be played for longer than 2 hours. So if you love strategy games choose Age of Empires Collector's Edition. 5/5 Joanna Daneman (Middletown, DE USA) - See all my reviews, November 3, 2000A fine collection, but you'll probably only play Conquerers
I didn't think much of computer games until we downloaded a trial of Age of Kings. We were completely smitten. We really loved the Age of Kings and that was our standard until the Conquerers Expansion Pack came out. Then we got this set to have all the games, and the rest was history. The improvements in the Conquerers were so amazing that we just put on the other games now and then for curiousity. The historical background (weaponry, armor, fighters, strategies, buildings, costume, languages, maps) that went into the development of this game are simply stunning. The graphics are pretty good (we drop down a peg in resolution, however, to make the map easier to read for some details like elevation.) You really can get into military strategy and have some wonderful battles. You can even play online with friends (using a private ISP) or in public gaming zones. If you love Age of Empires:Conquerers, it's fun to have the entire set to see how the game evolved. So I give it 4 out of... 4/5 tropic_of_criticism - See all my reviews This review is from: Age of Empires Collector's Edition (DVD-ROM) Honestly, I believe that this packaging was made for parents who've heard their kids say the words "I want AGE OF EMPIRES", and who, unfamiliar with the series, will think that more is better. THE EXPANSION THAT MAKES Age Of Empires 3 TRULY SHINE!
This is a solid expansion to the AGE OF EMPIRES III, the one you will play for hours at end. Although the 3rd installment of AoE was the weakest of the series (I personally enjoyed much more AGE OF EMPIRES II), I have to admit that I was really pleased by this expansion - and cannot complain but about minor things. After the lukewarm WARCHIEFS, which introduced Native American civilizations, this expansion introduces three major Asian civilizations (Japanese, Chinese, and Indian) - with their corresponding campaigns. The Japanese campaign takes place during the Shogunate civil wars. The Chinese campaign (trying to avoid any...political shoals) is on the fictional discovery of the New World by the Chinese (I would have preferred it to be about the unification of China under the Qin dynasty - but, then again, that would make it quite similar to the Japanese campaign). Finally, the Indian campaign is centered on the uprooting of the British East-India Trading... 5/5 NeuroSplicer (Freeside, in geosynchronous orbit) - See all my reviews, October 25, 2007Asian dynasties - A sweet addition
Well i dont want to spoil anyone by giving out too many details about China, India and Japan. ill just say that 3 new nations are unique, fun and easy to play with. All have specific only to them cards, wonders, military units. The artists at Big Huge Games did a great job of capturing the unique building structures for the new factions too. They all share similar economic tree but have elemets that distinct them like Japan can't hunt but has Cherry Orchard, and its houses serve as shrines that attract wild animals and generate 3 different resources one ata time. India cant kill cows from lifestock but uses them to gather Export, a new resource which you can spend to buy some units from Consulate where you ally with European nations. Each new side has own strategy it can implement. India relies heavily on Elephants, China on its Banner Army. Its very fun, voice acting of villagers is excellent and amuzing as always so its really a joy to listen villagers speak back on new... 4/5 M. Yushkov (BROOKLYN, NY USA) - See all my reviews, November 23, 2007Newer maps, more experience cards, and more fun
This expansion pack adds extra challenges with newer maps like the Silk Road map which allows for capturing trading posts instead of building them and further adding the option for a "monopoly win" of the routes. Other maps have treasures and guardians in the sea as well as on land. You can now earn up to having 25 experience cards in a deck as you progress in experience and they have done away with that lame customization of a home city which never made much sense. The experience cards for the new civilizations are also more diverse and innovative than the standard ones in Age III. For loyal players of the series you may get a sense that Age of Mythology was the influence for many of the new features, and a happy marriage at that. 5/5 M. The Age of Kings (AoK) along with its expansion pack, AoK:TC (The Conquerors--which we now call "AoC" when both are installed) is a superb game for either "Multiplayers" who play on-line or "Singleplayers" who don't. If a game which has a historical aspect to it which resides in the 1,000 year realm of ancient history stated has appeal for you (which isn't all 'hoked_up' with fantasy creatures), you cannot go wrong with purchasing the "Gold pack". The improvements in game play in Age of Empires II: The Conquerors is one area of this game that has been largely improved. Everything from the actions of your units (especially non-combat ones such as villagers or fishing ships) to the organization of your military units has been refined to provide a much better gameplay experience. Age of Empires II: The Conquerors also provides some new civilizations. They are the Aztecs, the Huns, Koreans, Mayans, and Spanish. I'm a fan of both Age of Empires 1 and 2. Age of Kings is a fitting improvement of the first game. The timeframe is medieval and the civilizations and technologies are appropriately tailored to that era. Graphics-wise, the game is as attractive as the first, probably more so. The buildings are proportioned better, so that a castle looks big compared to the peasants who built it. The sound effects are decent, as is the music. There some interesting maps available, and the new scenarios (Joan of Arc, William Wallace, El Cid, etc.) should keep you occupied for a while. Also, there are other game options, such as Regicide, Defend the Wonder, and Wonder Race. The AI is smart, but not unbeatable. You can now find idle villagers much easier, can queue things, units can be garrisoned, and combat units can be placed in various stances and formations. However, the game still suffers from some of the problems the first game had. For example, there is a great deal of micromanagement... 4/5 0, March 22, 2003 -

I'm using Windows 7 and have never run into any problems installing or playing it. Excellent bundle. 5/5 Bradely Pitts (UT) - See all my reviews = Fun:, July 17, 2011Great game at a great price!!
I purchased Age of Empire III, Complete Collection in August, it's a fantastic game with great graphics and many different game senarios to choose from. Amazon's price was far less than any major retail gaming outlet...will always shop Amazon for other products before looking else where. Thanks Amazon!!! 5/5 vinnieman - See all my reviews = Fun:, September 13, 2010Bought it for my son
I bought this game for my son. He's currently 8, and loves playing Age of Empires III.The game installed fine, had no problems playing it. The machine specs are moderate, but not "high end" and the game still runs fine. 4/5 Eric D. Burdo (Hermon, ME USA) - See all my reviews, October 5, 2010 -

Age of Mythology: Including Titans Expansion
Video Games (Microsoft)
List Price: $19.99
I've played this game more than any other, and I love it.
This is my favorite game of all time. It consumes a massive amount of time, and keeps you interested the entire time.I play it all the time with my wife, we both enjoy it.And remember, when playing, press "ENTER" and type in "ISIS HEAR MY PLEA" ;) 5/5 Omnicess - See all my reviews = Fun:, October 12, 2007Don't buy if you want to play online
This game is being published by all sorts of companies now and depending on who published the game you get is how you will be able to get online. The CD key that comes with the game does not work. If you google playing this game online it will tell you how to fix it. The game I recieved was published by "value soft" and on their webpage they list a address you have to mail your booklet too and then they mail you a working CD key. I can't even email for the CD KEY, very high tech huh? Now I have to wait to play the game, who knows how long. 5/5 Anna Creecy (Ga) - See all my reviews = Fun:, February 24, 2010A real good RTS
It keeps me playing, both story modes are really cool. You are able to play as the Norse, Greek, Egyeptions, and the Titans. The only down fall is you can't make your own maps. And since it comes with Titans expantion pack it is a good deal. 1/5 LJ - See all my reviews = Fun:, July 16, 2007Advance through four distinct ages while taking on the role of one of nine ancient civilizations.Players may call upon the gods for assistance in flattening enemy towns with meteors or scattering opposing troops with lightning storms.New single-player campaign adds yet another chapter to the franchise's expansive folklore with the addition of 12 new scenarios. The game is only played on the computer and is not available for online play.BONUS!! expansion pack will introduce 12 new god powers, 18 new human units and 10 formidable myth units to the game.Choose from 3 civilizations, 9 major gods, and 27 minor gods.
