More of the Same from QuickBooks

Despite all of the hoopla surrounding each new version, this version offers nothing new to 99.9% of users. As a CPA I have helped clients with QuickBooks for over 15 years and during that time I have seen a steady erosion in the usefulness of the program. It is large and cumbersome and much slower than older versions. My experience with the maker, Intuit is that they are not really a software company as much as they are a marketing company, using what once was a great product to squeeze more revenue out of their customers. It's still is a decent product, but don't upgrade unless you absolutely have to. If you are a new user, examine other products before you commit yourself to this once great and now mediocre product. 2/5 Joshua Lee - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) The quickbooks extortion

Very long time QB user here. Nothing is new here. Just another bloated version of Quickbooks that will expire after a few years and force you to upgrade in order to continue to use the services that you are already using. Once they have you, there is no getting out because your entire business is on there. I still have the 2004 version on an old computer and it's amazing how much more bloated this one is in comparison. This is far from a "pro" software suite. It is a very basic program and anything else you want to do requires subscriptions - you want payroll?? HAHAHA silly you for thinking an accounting program should include that- no you gotta subscribe at $150 a year for "do it yourself". You want attach documents to invoices on your own computer?? HAHAHAHA no...that's a subscription. Do you want to save invoices as a PDF to email your customer? YOHOHO yeah you can do that... but Quickbooks is sneaky and they will tell YOUR customer to go to a website to pay... 1/5 QuickBooks Customer Care, November 7, 2011

I have been experiencing a re-occurring problem with Quickbooks 2010 for the last six months. It is hard to understand the technicians at the other end of the phone, the response time has been reasonable, but it takes so long for them to fix the thing. My biggest concern is that the first thing the technician does is try to sell you a service contract. Four times I had to tell him I am a simplistic user, have been using it for 20 years and not needed a service contract yet. Still they kept trying to get me to buy the contract. Then they try and sell me the 2012 version which they say has fixed this problem. They want to sell this to me at a discount--which is $50 higher than the Amazon price. I suggest to them the reason for the problem is that there is an issue with the software (since they eliminated the problem in 2012) and I am told it is my machine. This is a money grubbing company that doesn't care about its customers. After reading the comments here I will not upgrade since it... 2/5 Sir Coogs A Lot - See all my reviews This review is from: QuickBooks Pro 2012 (Software) Very long time QB user here. Not Happy

I just upgraded to QB 2011 for Mac in January...because I was forced to. After working on my previous 2007 version a few times in Snow Leopard, I started getting dialogue boxes saying I needed to register my QB, which I ignored because it was already registered. What the dialogue box did not say was that all of my data would begin corrupting after a set number of openings. OK. I didn't like it. I felt connived as did an overwhelming # of reviewers when 2011 came out.I've rationalized Intuit's strategy and moved on...until now. Less than 10 months later, no free upgrade, not even a moderately priced upgrade. No, Intuit wants another $200 in less than a year for a few more goodies, which, by the way, would be nice improvements.I like the program! It functions well! I hate this company! BTW, are the posts prior to mine real? They sound more like company generated commercials than real customers. I'm willing to be wrong on this.I don't doubt... 3/5 Magikchef (San Francisco) - See all my reviews This review is from: QuickBooks for Mac 2012 [Download] (Software Download) I just upgraded to QB 2011 for Mac in January...because I was forced to. Please shoot me if I ever buy another Intuit product. Good software, extortionist company

I am a small business farm owner who owns QuickBooks for the Mac 2009. When Lion came out, instead of upgrading its software to work with Lion like ALL my other software makers, Intuit chose to force me to buy a new copy of their software. On their website, where the cost of their software is so much higher than on Amazon, they offer a $30 upgrade discount that brings the cost of the new product to a sum still higher than I can buy a new copy on Amazon. Because my accountant uses QuickBooks, they have me over a barrel and are using that advantage to extort me to buy another copy rather than supporting 2 year software, a fact that infuriates me. On top of that, my wife uses Quicken for the Mac 2007. She tried to upgrade to a more recent version but found the new versions don't offer bill-pay integrated into the accounting registers like the old software. Why? Because Intuit now offers a $9.95 PER MONTH service that does bill pay. Clearly being able to force users to pay $119.40... 1/5 William Lynes, December 11, 2011

No online billpay. Useless product from a confused company.

Quicken is the personal finance program and QuickBooks the business program. People who rely on either one are entrusting their most sensitive data to a software company. Unfortunately, as Mac users of Quicken know by now, Intuit has basically discontinued the product and betrayed their longtime Mac user base. For the new, Lion compatible version of Quicken (called Essentials), key capabilities such as online Bill Pay are no longer supported. This is a huge problem for me. I have had a smooth system in place for a number of years paying bills with a click through my financial institution online via Quicken Bill Pay. This problem is preventing me from upgrading my main desktop iMac to Lion from Snow Leopard. When QuickBooks for Mac 2012 came out, I thought I might see a way to work around the problem. Surely they must support online billpay for business users! I would just accept the extra, unneeded complexity of using a business as opposed to a personal finance program,... 1/5 Richard P. Where did they go wrong?!

I've been a user of Quickbooks since the mid "90s and I've always thought that they made a fine program. But I have recently updated to 2012 (from 2006) and I have to say that this program makes me grumpy several times a day. I have it installed on three computers. One running Windows 7 and two running Windows XP. All of them have problems. There is not a day that goes by when Quickbooks doesn't fail to do something that it should. Any computer that hosts the database provides inconsistent access to the file. Oddly, some process keeps the host computer from shutting down when you tell it to. PDFs don't print correctly. They use ShipRush now for shipping integration. It offers some nice features, but takes a while to boot up the first time everyday and I think it has something to do with the computer not shutting down. Shipping data is stored individually based on the computer user account, so it can't be accessed from another account.I'm not even including my... 1/5 R. Lingering problems

Quickbooks 2012 is an essential small business tool, but why is Intuit still unable to fix the PDF creation in the Windows 64 bit environment? Plus, Quickbooks' multi-user feature is not reliable when the file is hosted on another PC within the LAN.It seems like you have to shake your legs in the right sequence for this feature to work. Quickbooks is very frustrating if you rely on these two features and Intuit support is nonexistent. 3/5 Power User (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: QuickBooks Pro 3-User 2012 [Download] (Software Download) Quickbooks 2012 is an essential small business tool, but why is Intuit still unable to fix the PDF creation in the Windows 64 bit environment? Finally A Flawless QuickbooksUpgrade! But Check To See If You Really Need Premier Version

I have been a QuickBooks user since 1992 and it was a nifty product, relatively inexpensive at about $59 and served my purpose well. However, every time I upgraded the product after 1999, I ran into serious problems-like not being able to open the data file, download the transactions from the bank or get the payroll to work. And getting technical support from QuickBooks is almost impossible. But QuickBooks always found a way to force the upgrade and I had to upgrade from QuickBooks Pro 2006 to QuickBooks Pro 2009 because they stopped downloading the bank transactions. As a user you got the impression that company that produced nifty products has been suddenly taken over by crooks who fleeced the users of their products. So I adopted a policy, never to upgrade QuickBooks, unless I have to. But I got QuickBooks Premier through the Amazon Vine program and I decided to try to upgrade.I must say, this is the 1st time since 1999, that the QuickBooks upgrade went flawlessly... 3/5 SanjeevP "Bottom Line" (Michigan, USA) - See all my reviews, November 24, 2011

    Woohooo! I'm loving the attachments!

Well, I upgraded my business from QuickBooks 2011 to QuickBooks 2012 just over a month ago now.At first, I'll have to admit that I was a bit underwhelmed - the 2012 version seems pretty much just like the 2011 version to a non-accountant like me. On top of that, I kept running into the problem where it wouldn't launch because it said a previous instance was still running. After a couple of weeks, I was starting to wish I hadn't bothered. (As a side note, we run QuickBooks on the 64-bit version of Windows 7.)Fortunately, Intuit released an update that finally fixed the previous instance problem and I was able to focus on the application instead of just trying to get it launched.Although it still seems mostly like the 2011 version - there is one updated feature that makes this upgrade well worth it for us. That feature is local document attachments! (Seriously, what were they thinking when they went to an online subscription model for... 4/5 D. An easy upgrade - a nice expansion into bookings and rate billing

That was painless. I upgraded from 2011 Pro this weekend. This Premier version has some new front-end and back-end tools to enable pricing by customer, billing rates by employee and order entry/backlog management. These are value adding elements that raises the shrinkwrap utility nearer to larger system capabilities. I've obviously got to test run these new features next week. If something is amiss, I'll keep you posted. My 4Q11 books will close with QuickBooks 2012.From experience, I upgrade my biz software annually. In the long run, the annual re-up is inevitably the best value for money and secondarily ... so that nobody can complain that 'we have to use old tools'. My engineering and sciences guys get their annual upgrades for SolidWorks, LabView, Mentor Graphics and Mathematica. I feel compelled to extend the same upgrade logic to the accounting system. If you stay with one version for too many years, you are not leaving data risk integrity to chance in a future... 5/5 robert johnston (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews, October 29, 2011

Great for financial managers or working with multiple companies

This version of QuickBooks provides all the bells and whistles of the other editions and more besides. Now with the Report Writer (debuted in Accountant 2011 for $125 extra), this is the program to buy if you're trying to manage the finances for multiple companies/groups simultaneously. I've found it FAR more cost efficient than struggling with the Pro or Enterprise editions. Compare the features and you'll quickly see why this is the best choice. Hard to find out about this version but once you do, I doubt you'll want to go back. 5/5 E. King - See all my reviews, October 5, 2011

    Intuit Abandons Customers

I needed to install this on my RAID 2 (mirrored) E: drive. Intuit has changed the software so that it will only install to the C: drive, thus deciding that customers who require a different set up must either reconfigure their computers to use their software, purchase an additional computer, or throw their hands in the air and give up. I confirmed this with them in a one hour call to customer service, installation support, and back to customer service. Not only have they destroyed a key part of the utility of their software, but it was almost impossible to get any of their representatives to actually listen and answer the question answered. Software gets one star; company gets zero.I am now looking for other software or setting up a manual accounting system. 1/5 Christopher J. Anton - See all my reviews, November 8, 2011

As a consultant to small business I have promoted Quick books for the past 14 years.Overall the software is excellent and it does an excellent job of tracking your business finances. The original cost of the program is very inexpensive, even if you upgrade every year you will spend less then $200/year.( I recommend upgrading every 2nd or 3rd year )Even though Intuit charges extra for Add On services (such as support, payroll, off site backup, etc) these are still reasonable priced for the service you get. In the end you should only be paying for the services you need. ( While there are cheaper alternatives for many of Intuit's services, in some cases it may be worthwhile to do it all through Intuit.)BUT............be very careful when dealing with Intuit.Today I tried to reorder checks. It took almost 30min on the phone, and in the end the sales rep signed me up for 2 additional services that I had specifically... 4/5 J. V. Go ahead and upgrade if you don't mind being forced to pay more $$$ each month

The latest version of QB has now completely taken away your ability to attach documents you've stored on your own computer. Instead, you have to pay for their "service" (something always subject to the whims of the powers that be at Intuit) and pay for their Document Attachment Service (starting at $9.95/month for one attachment per item). Oh, you can still host the stuff on your servers, it's just that QB's charges you to actually access it. There are 3rd party software programs that will do the same thing, but they run around $200 a piece.Manual payroll is still available- but I guarantee you will spend a couple of hours looking for the RIGHT set of instructions to set it up. Even the tech support didn't know how to do it in this version. There are still compatability issues with Windows 7 64 bit. I ended up with the blue screen of death for a while. Program shuts down unexpectedly. The ads for the paid services are intrusive and nearly... 1/5 SoVo "Book Lover" (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews This review is from: QuickBooks Pro 2011 - [Old Version] (Software) The latest version of QB has now completely taken away your ability to attach documents you've stored on your own computer. Stupid business model, mediocre product

I was happily using my 2007 quickbooks pro and then all of a sudden I am no longer able to download my bank statements. Why? Because intuit is stupid. All I can say is that intuit deserves nothing more than an entire customer group that does everything in their power to minimize intuit's profit margin and maximizes their bad press. Each year amazon reviews contain the same fundamental issue.. That intuit does everything they can to force upgrades, charge for basic items that they lead the consumer to believe is included for free, and generally rely on the fact that no real competitor exists. It amazes me that my distaste for microsoft in the windows 98 era is now realigned to the point that intuit makes microsoft look like apple. In 2010 windows me still lets you use a mouseIn 2010 windows 98 still lets you emailIn 2010 windows 95 still lets you connect to the internetIn 2010 office 2000 still lets you use the... 1/5 Josh, Intuit Product Manager, December 4, 2010

Warning to Users of Windows 7 64-bit (lots of QB issues)

I could not agree more with some of the customers' reviews here on Amazon: QB Pro on Windows 7 64-bit cannot be used for your business. Our company upgraded our computers to Windows 7 64-bit along with Quickbooks 2010 to try it out, but have not transitioned the whole company over to QB 2010 because it just has so many things that don't work. The most important issue that the fact that printing just doesn't work consistently, neither for pdf's (sending estimates, POs, reconciliation) nor simply printing invoices and receipts. If you try to follow suggestions posted on QB support discussion forums, the fix lasts about a day or so. After rebooting your computer or even QB again, the issue begins again. It's impossible to run a business with Quickbooks 2010 if one cannot print. For non-QB programs, printing works perfectly. So this is clearly a QB problem.Due to the above, we've resorted to running the business with Quickbooks 2006 with off our older... 1/5 cander (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: QuickBooks Pro 2010 - Old Version (CD-ROM) I could not agree more with some of the customers' reviews here on Amazon: QB Pro on Windows 7 64-bit cannot be used for your business. Better than QB 2009 but that's not saying much

As another review mentions, the bulk of the 29 reviews currently posted are by Vines members who received the product for free and beta testers who are coddled by Intuit. There are precious few independent reviews here. Why is that?I've been a Quickbooks user since 1999. Up until QB 2005, it was a solid, nearly bug free and user friendly product. Unfortunately, Intuit "sunsets" their products and makes it increasingly impossible to use an older version after a few years. So I was forced to upgrade beyond 2005. The short version of a very long sad saga is each version after 2005 has been worse than the one before it with 2009 being the biggest mess yet.2010 is *marginally* better than 2009 in some ways. Intuit has made the online banking actually function again (they completely broke it in 2009) and cleaned up a few other annoying 2009 issues. But, sadly, the "nag screens" have gotten even worse and there are even more things that are now expensive upgrades... 2/5 Bryan from Intuit, November 11, 2009

Intuit has their head up their bank account

2 stars, let me give a more thoughtful review than before.Quickbooks is a nice program in many ways. Its easy to use, clean, produces quality documents. The reports are useful and very adaptable. The new feature where you can cut and paste from Excel docs directly into customer and vendor lists was a good idea. Having a brief experience with Peachtree, I can say that Quickbooks is probably a superior program overall, the biggest advantage being the fine way you can double-click just about anything in QB and drill down for more info. The ease of use and quality of the very basics are what makes this program decent enough. But I'll also say again that I was probably just as happy with QB 2001, and the years worth of changes to the program and how much it costs to really use it have probably, on the whole, been for the worse. But my biggest problem with it is that the entire program just seems highly focused on sucking money out of the customer. Things that... 2/5 EmbeddedFlyer (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: QuickBooks Pro 2010 - Old Version (CD-ROM) As another review mentions, the bulk of the 29 reviews currently posted are by Vines members who received the product for free and beta testers who are coddled by Intuit.
