Dreamweaver CS5 Digital Classroom, (Book and Video Training covers CS5 & CS5.5)
Book (Wiley)
List Price: $49.99
Dreamweaver is perfect for creating high-quality websites quickly!
I have used Digital Classroom books by the AGI Creative Team in the past, and found them very user-friendly. The Dreamweaver CS5 book is no exception. Easy-to-follow lessons and excellent DVD tutorials make this book perfect for someone looking to create high-quality websites without all the mysterious behind-the-scenes coding that can feel so intimidating to the casual user. I can see myself using Dreamweaver to update websites for volunteer organizations that I work with, and if you are a business owner this could be a huge help to you, too.One thing that I found really great (and it seems like it should be a no-brainer, but we all know that it's not) is that the index for this book is brilliantly done. Anything that I need to look up quickly is there, which is a huge time-saver.A quick note on coding: this book certainly does not focus hard on it, but there is enough information in the lessons that I felt like I was getting a good look at what is really... 5/5 CreativeMom - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This book is absolutely amazing. I'm transitioning from FrontPage and this made it easy, partly due to the index, which Dreamweaver's help function doesn't include. Dreamweaver's help directs you to an online "community-based" site which can make it tough to find specific commands and topics. The book completely eliminates that frustration. The text was clear and easy to ready, along with full-color screen captures that show exactly what's being taught. It also includes references to other topics as applicable. Some of Dreamweaver's features can be accomplished in different ways and it's good to know how they can be useful from each perspective. The DVD was incredible. Reading the book and going thru the chapters was great, but seeing an overview of each tutorial made it even better. That sort of demonstration is invaluable. I took a local one-day class for Dreamweaver but the instructor went so quick that it was hard to keep up. The DVD covers nearly the same... 5/5 Ace King (Denver, Colorado) - See all my reviews, December 21, 2010Best book for novice to learn Dreamweaver
I have been trying to learn this program on an off for years using Lynda.com and other books. This is the first method that finally clicked. Unlike other books and tutorials, this book doesn't assume that you know anything about Dreamweaver. Watching the video tutorials, reading the book, and completing the work in the text, which goes a bit further in explanation, made me understand each way to set up graphics on a page and why you would choose one method over another. It's a very well written how-to. My favorite book is filled with sticky notes and dog-eared and now I refer to it often as I am building sites. Dreamweaver CS5: The Missing Manual
Book (O'Reilly Media)
List Price: $49.99
Would pick this over Dummies any day!!
I did not buy this book through amazon, although i wish I would have with the markdown in price. It is a great deal compared to the $49 I paid (8-26-10) at B&N. Early on, I was in need of a great, solid, easy to read book that would introduce me into the Dreamweaver world. Being an amateur and having little to no knowledge at all of CSS, HTML, XML, etc., I found this book a great, GREAT tool to help me get on my way to website building and managing. Though in reality, it teaches you a lot more than just those simple desires. The Missing Manual comes in with the expectation that you are an advanced beginner or intermediate at operating a computer and you DO NOT need to have any prior knowledge of computer coding or tech terms to understand the material. It teaches you as you go along without veering from the objective of that chapter. It is really fascinating how the material covered in the book is so clearly explained with examples and links that supplement the content in... 5/5 A. 1st off I have to say that I am surprised @ the overwhelming praise that people have given this book, being that you are sure to find loads of typos, mismatched diagrams, and (at times) disjointed procedures in some of the tutorials. Did these people even read the majority of this book as I have been doing for the past month? Or are they just professionals that need a snippet of information? I'll be honest here. I have about 40 pages to go until I finish it, but have become so completely frustrated with a particular example, and the fact that I've been submitting Errata on this book to the point where I feel the author should pay me for being a freelance editor (check out the errata and "unconfirmed errata". My name's there.) that I had to come out and say something. Don't get me wrong. Overall this is a good book for newbies like myself. At over 1000 pages and 27 chapters, 'Dreamweaver CS5: The Missing Manual' by David McFarland is one of the rare books that I can EASILY give a Highest Possible Recommendation for. It has been known for quite some time that Dreamweaver is THE #1 resource for creating a professional web site in the most efficient way possible and with the fewest steps so that you can get your site created with netters surfing to it in the shortest amount of time. Now learn how to use Dreamweaver as efficiently as possible and get a peek at all the newest features in CS5!!The material contained within is simply staggering: Basics, CSS, Forms, Flash, Automation, Database connectivity, and server-side XML and XSLT, it's all here!!The Missing Manual is my favorite line of books because of the logical separation of content, the writing, and the design. My only gripe with this book would be the lack of color which could have easily been put in for only a small amount more added to the... 5/5 Daniel McKinnon "Dan" (Tewksbury, MA USA) - See all my reviews, July 7, 2010 -

Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5 Student and Teacher Edition
Software (Adobe)
List Price: $399.00
Easy process
I'm a big fan of Dreamweaver and this latest edition has all the bells and whistles I need. The layout and general use hasn't changed much in the last four versions or so but the newer version adds new functionality.I wanted to mention how the Student and Teacher Edition works at Amazon. No verification is required to buy the product but once you get it the box explains what needs to be done to activate it. You install and enter the product id and then are asked for the serial number, which is only provided after Adobe verifies your student or teacher status. You can run it for 30 days in trial mode while you wait for activation. To be verified you sign in at Adobe and post scanned proof, which is normally your student or teacher id. They verified mine within 12 hours (on a week day). If you're using the app in trial mode you can add the serial number in the help menu. Simple and quick. 5/5 B. Hooven "whooven" (East Tennessee, USA) - See all my reviews, May 18, 2011Dreamweaver Still a good program
I was a little hesitate to buy the student edition of CS5.5 Dreamweaver because of all the problems people reported online regarding how difficult it was to certify your school status to get the serial number activating Dreamweaver. Yes, you do have to have a valid school email address because that's where Adobe sends the serial number. My only problem was my trial version has expired and I had uninstalled it prior to buying Dreamweaver. Without the trial being installed, the install disk wouldn't install. Once I reinstalled the trial, I was able to enter the emailed serial number in the trial version, and voila, Dreamweaver has been working since. I'm still learning the program but find Dreamweaver easy to use with its three way, code, split, and design views and with it's ability to upload to your website once you set all your server configurations in the Manage Site menu. Dreamweaver CS5.5: The Missing Manual
Book (O'Reilly Media)
List Price: $49.99
A Must-Have for New Dreamweaver Users
I pre-ordered the book right after purchasing Dreamweaver CS5.5 (my first exposure to Dreamweaver). In the five weeks that followed I created a pretty good web site--without the Missing Manual.Within the first 38 pages, the author earned the purchase price! Knowing just a few of the few things he brings out at the beginning would've saved me hours and hours of fiddling around trying to figure these same things out--which I was only able to do because I had a little prior knowledge of HTML.I can't wait to get deeper into the MM and learn how to use CS5.5 to its full potential! 5/5 John D. I recently upgraded from DW CS3 to CS5.5 and bought this book to get a understand the new tools and tricks. Turns out, that this version of the book is mostly a cut and paste of the previous version. For example I was looking for CSS3 and HTML 5 specifics available in this version of DW and the book either quickly glossed over them or mentioned that they were newer standards and still evolving and thus wrote very little on these topics. In my opinion this truly is a Missing Manual, there is not much new in this book at all while the DW product has evolved considerably. If you never used a Missing Manual, there is a lot here to get value from. In my opinion, it's out of date and has not been updated. 2/5 William Angell (El Dorado Hills, CA, US) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I find this book easy to read with lots of examples and pictures to go along with the text. There are also tutorials built into each chapter which give you a chance to try out what you've been reading about. The writing is entertaining and not dry to read. I have an older version of Dreamweaver so am not new to the program but wasn't really using it much so pretty much needed to start from scratch. I am also not a professional programmer but do web design for my church so am not a total novice. I would highly recommend this book. 5/5 D. Dreamweaver made simple
This book has step-by-step instructions with a corresponding visual example. I find this book to be an excellent primer and resource book for Dreamweaver. Of course, just like with Photoshop, the real learning takes place when you actually use Dreamweaver and put into action what you have learned in the book.Cons: The visual examples are on the small side, so I needed to use a magnifying glass to get a better look. Despite this negative, I stick to my 5 Star rating. For additional free Dreamweaver teaching videos, I use Adobe TV, Lynda, and Peachpit. 5/5 Catherine Prew - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Dreamweaver CS5 For Dummies
Book (For Dummies)
List Price: $24.99
Exactly what I needed.
I'm not a professional web site builder, by any means. I have some very limited and very basic experience building and maintaining very simple sites for my husband's, my son's, and my daughter's businesses. Not template based, but nothing elaborate, just functional, clean-looking and basic. They were built with the now-defunct (and much simpler) Front Page program. Dreamweaver is a bit more complex, a lot more versatile, and has a bit of a learning curve. But, with this book, I think I can handle the transition.I want to do something a little different to my websites (one hasn't changed anything but the price list in 11 years!) and make them look a little different and more up-to-date. This book is just perfect for me: it doesn't assume I already know what to do or am familiar with the program but, at the same time, it doesn't assume I'm stupid (despite the name).Things I'm finding particularly helpful:--The tone of the book is in everyday language,... 5/5 tachi1 "tachi1" (Miami, FL United States) - See all my reviews, June 9, 2010instant gratification

I haven't really made a website in years but recently I was asked to create one for a family member. I thought Dreamweaver would have all the latest tech and that a "dummies" book would be a great place to start. I was totally wrong with the choice of book. While dreamweaver seems great the book makes thing really complicated. The author goes into great detail about all the different options and techniques but never really gets around to giving really good examples. I tend to like books that show you a good example and explain how that example was created, step by step. If that's what you're looking for then this is not the book for you. There is a lot of great information in the book but most of it is technical. I haven't seen one aesthetically pleasing example in the entire book. The examples given are bare bones, this is how it works, but they don't show how to get it work and look good. Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 Classroom in a Book
Book (Adobe Press)

Finally, I book I can use to teach with.
The CS4 Classroom in a book sucked eggs. I would hand it out as a parting gift to my students. This CS5 version has been completely re-written. I will actually use this book when I teach my Dreamweaver classes from now on. I'm an Adobe Certified Instructor. The lessons in this book cover all the basics beginners need to know. It covers lots of basic questions about HTML and CSS. There are better books out there for intermediate users, but for someone just getting started with no clue about HTML, CSS and Dreamweaver, I highly recommend this book. 5/5 Melissa Piccone (Leesburg, va) - See all my reviews This review is from: Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 Classroom in a Book (Paperback) The CS4 Classroom in a book sucked eggs. This book is just 'okay' for Dreamweaver. Keep in mind the book is not necessarily for web building novices. If you already are familiar with the process of building a website, but new to Dreamweaver, then this book covers the basics for you. The examples used in the book are mediocre at best and the beef I have with it is that it forgoes explanations and just gives you instructions to do this or do that. Why something is done in a certain way is mostly missing.I agree with another reviewer who said there were errors in the book. You'll find them mostly in the later chapters, however, I don't have much issues with those. By the time you get to those, you should have enough of a knowledge to correct them by yourself.Bottom line is, I am neither overly satisfied nor disappointed in this book. But, for those who want something comprehensive, there are definitely better choices out there. 3/5 Benicio Van Buren (Birmingham) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I bought this book and Flash-CIB from Adobe and while the Flash book was error free, this book was not! Two totally different directions in each book. If I could do it again, I'd try another DW book before getting this one! Lesson 14 is a disaster!Book Errors:1. A bunch of typos - including a section that starts off explaining how important being precise is in coding and then they make a typo in the coding themselves 3 steps later!!! And alot of the typos are in the coding (That alone should be a warning sign!!) And there's even a section that repeats the same sentence twice back to back.2. Wrong URLs - towards the second half of the book, the book gives several URLs for more reference - about 80% of them did NOT work! So you're left in the dark.3. Wrong images - some images dont match what is being said or seen on screen4. Lesson 14 is totally screwed up in several ways - they should have titled it "Hey rookie -... 1/5 thepunisher08 (Newark, NJ United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
