Acrobat X is inferior compared to Acrobat Pro 9.

I was hoping that Acrobat X would be faster with less glitches than Acrobat Pro 9. However, it is actually worse! The tools are so disorganized. In Acrobat Pro 9, you can customize the tool box in an intuitive fashion, but in version X, it is so convoluted and I couldn't figure out how to make it the way I wanted. Also the Typewriter now pops up with its own window that you cannot integrate into the tool bar. What the heck? And the interface is just ugly. What were the designers thinking???Don't waste your money on this, and stick to the Acrobat Pro 9. 1/5 ccc - See all my reviews This review is from: Adobe Acrobat X Professional (Software) I was hoping that Acrobat X would be faster with less glitches than Acrobat Pro 9. Ugly user interface mars this new edition

I have been a fan of Adobe Acrobat from day one. I do a great deal of work in the print-on-demand field, and PDFs are the defacto-standard, and require specialized formatting. I was excited that version 10 was out, and was looking forward to a lot of new features and a better program all around, but I was disappointed. The user interface is completely changed from v.9, and it actually looks like it belongs to a "lite" version, rather than the flagship v.10 this has been touted to be. It took me a while to find my way to my favorite tools, and even though I've used it a while now, I don't like the configuration, and am going back to v.9. (Adobe has provided user tutorials to help you learn the newly revamped interface. Really? Why do I want to spend time learning a new interface to a program I've already used for years?)If you're upgrading from a really old version of Acrobat, then the features here will seem heavenly. But if you're already using v.9, I... 3/5 KWJ (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews, May 24, 2011

Easy Verification - Adobe Academic Software Tips

Verification is never fun, but I really believe Adobe's verification process is as easy as it could possibly be.I recently purchased the Student and Teacher Editions (academic versions) of Adobe Dreamweaver CS5, Photoshop CS5 Extended and Acrobat X Professional. The entire verification process is very easy and it helps to have your scanned ID or any additional paperwork ready ahead of time. I received all three activation serial numbers in less than 24 hours. Adobe says that it could take up to two business days for verification. The following might be some helpful information:Adobe allows you to install and activate your purchased software onto two computers. I have the above-mentioned software installed and activated on two computers on a home network. Had I Known

After receiving the Adobe Acrobat X Professional Student & Teacher Edition I attempted to install it. During the install process, I was advised that this was a 30-day trail version. This news was a bit unsettling, as I had already paid $100 for it. warning before you buy

There is one big problem with the requirements for being able to use this software. Amazon states you must submit a student ID but fails to indicate the student ID must show a "date" on it. My ID does not have a date on it and checking with other students from different colleges their ID does not show a date on it either. So if you do not have a date shown on your ID do not buy this software. 1/5 Cherrypop - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Adobe Acrobat X is terrible and annoying to use

This new Adobe Acrobat X is terrible and annoying to use. A big disappointment. It's the "Vista" of Adobe. When you launch Acrobat X there's always a start up screen that pops up in the middle of the screen and cannot be disabled, asking if you want to open a file, create a new file, etc., like the user is an idiot. There are only 5 main menus on the top: File, Edit, View, Window, and Help. Acrobat 9 has 10 menu choices. Gone from the main menu on top are Document, Comments, Forms, Tools, Advanced, and Plug-Ins. They were all moved to the new right side panel you have to open up everytime you want to do something and takes up space and covers up the PDF.The Find box is gone from the top. Now you have to hit "Ctrl F" and a small little box appears on the right of the screen to type in the text in. Inexcusable for a 20-year User of Adobe Products

I have been a user of Adobe products for 20 years. I have upgraded my Creative Suites from its origin to its current CS5 Design Premium. I have recently had trouble installing updates to Illustrator -- and after 6 hours with customer service and technical support was told to uninstall and reinstall, which I did and did NOT solve the problem. They have no answer. I was having the same problem with Acrobat 9 Pro and spent additional WASTED hours. Finally, I decided to upgrade to Acrobat X Pro. I purchased it from Amazon. I tried to install it on my laptop, put in the X serial number and copied the 9 serial number from my registration page at Adobe -- and it did not recognize my serial number as valid. So deleted the 9 serial number and typed it in exactly as it was on the Adobe registration page -- and still not a valid serial number! I finally called Adobe customer service, who could do nothing, and transferred me to technical support. After 45 minutes (!) on the phone, I was given a... 1/5 Evangel: "A Music Lover , who Happens to Be a... Works Fine...

I bought and installed this program, Acrobat X Pro Upgrade, with NO problems. I upgraded from Acrobat 9 Pro FULL version on a Win7 Pro virtual machine running on my Apple iMac i7. You must first uninstall any previous version of Acrobat prior to installing ver X. I chose to upgrade to ver X obtain FULL compatibility with my Office 2010.Unlike some of the other reviews on Amazon, I had ZERO problems with Acrobat X taking/accepting the Acrobat 9 Pro serial number (it even worked with my Acrobat 8 Pro S/N). I can't say why the others had problems, as I don't know all of the details involved with their installations.I use Acrobat extensively every day for business. Therefore, before I took the plunge into their new GUI, and did some homework. All I can say at this time is that the new GUI/menus are a little clunky at first. It shouldn't take too long to acclimate yourself to the new design, as long as you are not completely brain dead. Still looks like it was created for a PC

I upgraded from Acrobat Pro 7 to 10 last week. I am happy with some of the new features, and I find that the application's speed (for tasks like OCRing) is much improved. The user interface of Acrobat X Pro still looks like it was created for a PC, however, or in any case not for a Mac. The user experience is extremely clunky. Also, seemingly straightforward tasks -- for example, converting a color PDF to black-and-white in order to save space -- oddly seem beyond the capacity of the program. I am somewhat surprised, in short, that skipping two versions (8 and 9) to upgrade to 10 wasn't as big a deal as I expected. Maybe I am failing to understand the technical advances of this version, but Adobe certainly hasn't helped me to see the added benefit. On the other hand, this is still my program of choice for OCR processing and other forms of PDF file manipulation, like reducing file size or managing security. I am not involved in professional document production, so many of the program's... 3/5 LS (Victoria, Canada) - See all my reviews This review is from: Adobe Acrobat X Professional Student & Teacher Edition [Mac] (Software) I upgraded from Acrobat Pro 7 to 10 last week. Pain in the A__ to load this software

I purchased Adobe Acrobat X Professional Student & Teacher Edition for one project that I need to do over Christmas Vacation. I went to load the software and am told to register first on Adobe's website. The registration process is the LONGEST AND MOST DIFFICULT REGISTRATION that I have ever seen for any product, including you have to scan and attach a copy of your school ID. Good luck if you don't have a scanner, or worse yet, if your school doesn't give you a photo ID.I noticed on Adobe's website that they wanted the school ID to be within the last 120 days. How dare I stay at the same job for more than 4 months. So, I scanned both of my school IDs (I have two because I teach inside a jail), and my most recent paystub, so something was within the last 120 days, but STILL NO SERIAL NUMBER FROM ADOBE, not even an email response acknowledging my submission. After entering the tiny print 22-digit code a few times along with my information, I finally finish... 1/5 John M. Don't buy it! Acrobat 9 is better

I had a choice between version 9 and X and made the wrong one. I had been using the trial version of 9 and loved how I could copy information in a PDF as a table and paste into Excel. Version X says it has this great new feature of being able to save a PDF as an Excel file and I thought, "Great!" Uh, not so great. Information that used to copy and paste beautifully into Excel is now a jumbled mess. Some of the columns don't translate correctly, so instead of information spread out over 3 or 4 columns, it's all in one - I can get THAT from the free Adobe Reader. I've tried saving as Excel, saving as a Word docx and copy/pasting but each way has produced poor results. I've tried the copy and paste into Excel from some of the exact PDFs that worked with version 9, so it's definitely this version. Maybe there are some other ways that X is better than 9, but this is a huge thing to not work well. 1/5 dissipatedfog (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Adobe Acrobat X Standard (Software) I had a choice between version 9 and X and made the wrong one. Party Like It's 1999

Lets face it; after two decades, Adobe is running out of ways to make documents seem exciting. With Acrobat 10, there are three price tiers. Acrobat pro adds the ability to redact information, make forms and embed media files. Acrobat suite tries to vertically integrate Acrobat with technology from Adobe's other products (Flash, Premiere, and Photoshop) to provide an alternative to Powerpoint. Here's what would excite me: If Adobe took the time to rewrite Acrobat from the bottom up as a 64-bit application. I am running Acrobat on Windows 7 64-bit and it still uses antiquated 32-bit code.I would also be excited if Adobe added serious multi-threading support since most of today's computers have two, four, six and even more processor cores.Adobe definitely has not skimped on heavy-handed Digital Rights Management -- the buzzword for its effort to keep you from stealing this software. Adobe runs its Windows background software even when you... 1/5 Adam Bahner - See all my reviews, December 10, 2010

Trouble Using with MS Office 2010

When I bought a new computer in January 2011 I upgraded from Acrobat 8 Standard to Acrobat X Standard specifically because the product advertises it is compatible with MS Office 2010 and Windows 7. I am running 64-bit Windows 7 Home edition. My MS Office suite is 32-bit. Unfortunately, I can't create .pdfs from any Office products.I spent 61 minutes on hold waiting to get through to a tech support individual the first time I called. I have since spent several hours with a tech from India on two different occasions where he controls my screen and tries to solve the problem. The individual has had no luck trying to fix the problem. I really don't think the tech support individual knew much more than I did by watching him fumble around on my screen. I think he may have been searching Adobe's support site for answers! He rescheduled for a third time, but failed to contact me. Simple, to the point

Since it's rare for software to come with manuals anymore, it usually takes a lot of trial-and-error for me to get it do do what I want it to. Because of this, I often feel I'm overlooking software features that didn't come up otherwise. Getting a book like How to Do Everything with Adobe Acrobat X was a good way for me to discover what Acrobat X can do.One of the most interesting things I learned from the book was the Stamp tool. This is a digital equivalent of a rubber stamps that were used on paper documents. It's one of those seemingly minor things that gets used in offices around the world, and Adobe was able to turn it into a tool in Acrobat. The book teaches about how to apply, edit, and delete Stamps, as well as creating custom ones.Another cool tool is the Email-based Review tool. For authors and publishers, this somewhat automates the practice of sending a document out to be reviewed. I can imagine peer-reviewed journals using this in their process... 5/5 Michael P. Essential how to book for new users

This book answered the questions I had in using the new features of Adobe Acrobat X. If you are upgrading to Acrobat X, you will need help with the newest features, such as inserting videos into your PDF files. Highly recommended! 5/5 L. Pogue (Arkansas) - See all my reviews, September 9, 2011

    Horrible Version-Do not buy!

I have used all versions of Adobe Acrobat from version 4.0 up to this X version and this is a major step backwards. I tried giving this product a few weeks of use to familiarize myself with it as my first impression was so bad. My initial opinion remains unchanged.Pros: as compared to the prior Version--A glitch that would sometime create a duplicated image at the bottom of some optimized scanned in pages has been fixed(it should have been fixed with an free update on 9).Cons:Everything else!-Including:--It results in Larger Files Sizes for optimized scans compared to Version 9(even though it says otherwise in the description)!--For simple PDF files, the file size is not reduced at all, as it claims to do.--Still has not fixed bugs in creating Office files using the included MS Office icons(Tech support confirmed this will probably not ever be fixed)-but yet those non-working icons still start up every time I start office up even... 1/5 A. A large step backward

This release is a real stinker, and the more you know the worse it gets. It is far less flexible than earlier versions. To wit:1. Even if you are the digital signer making documents, security settings block you from reducing your file size, deleting erroneous sigs, etc. In earlier versions you could make the changes and re-validate. Not here. So, let's say you sign a large document with lots of pictures, and see that the file is large. You then want to reduce file size. No dice - can't be done2. One can no longer print a PDF to a PDF in adobe. This change really sucks for advanced users. You are basically wedded to the authored pdf and can never start afresh with making a PDF from a PDF. Let's say you want to get rid of annotations and bloatware by reprinting into a smaller footprint.Power users should avoid this release at all costs.Other users should too.I'd urge buyers to do their homework and return within the... 1/5 E. Works for what I need

This is the first version of Acrobat I have used and it works like a charm for me. I have read the reviews of many people who have used previous versions and think this one is not that great but luckily for me I have nothing to compare it to. I mainly use it to markup PDF files, edit PDF files, and touch up engineering drawings. I'm not a big power user but for what I do it works fine. 4/5 Marvin Hamon - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Colossal pain in the *&@!

Adobe Acrobat 9.0 has been a source of frustration. Conflict between Adobe's PDF Maker add-in and Microsoft Office 2007 causes the Microsoft application to crash. Adobe's add-in is automatically disabled by Word, Excel, etc., so you can't make an Adobe PDF while using a Microsoft application. If you enable the add-in in Word (a tricky process in itself) and then try to create an Adobe PDF from a Word file, Word crashes. But now you can create a PDF from a Word file when you are in the Adobe application! Major heartburn! I wish I had stayed with Adobe Acrobat 5.0!On Adobe's website there is a TechNote that will guide you through no less than FIVE solutions (three printed pages) to help you resolve the conflict between Acrobat 9.0 and Microsoft Office 2007. Buy Adobe Acrobat 9.0 only if you are prepared to do battle with the default settings in Microsoft Office 2007. 2/5 J. Bradley (Rancho Mirage, CA) - See all my reviews, July 23, 2008

Great program - works for me every time!

I'm that guy in the office that always downloads the betas, always been willing to take a risk to try out the newest software, so I've been through a litany of nightmares when it comes to new programs and their inherent bugs. That being said, I have to say that Acrobat Pro 9 has never given me one bit of trouble. I upgraded from 6 to 9 so I could take advantage of the LifeCycle Designer to design forms for my company. Installation went smooth, and it's never given me any trouble. I recently upgraded to Office 2007, and both programs continue to function perfectly, separately and jointly. I always hate to see other have problems with their software (there are just so many better ways to waste time), and everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion, but I have give this one a thumbs up. 4/5 Richard R. Worst Product Support

I am the IT and a small company. We upgraded to Version 9 two computers. Software is fine until you have a problem. Mother board crashed in one requiring replacement. Adobe will let you install Acrobat then it checks out configuration. Adobe nag Tells you software will shut down in 30 days. Checking FAQ you must deactivate software before installing on another computer and it must be the original computer. Called customer support sept 10th. On hold 92 minutes had to leave phone for work then called back and placed on hold for another 32 minutes still no support. On hold today 34 and counting. I will update this if I ever get adobe to answer customer support. Microsoft customer support had my fix for me on day after I email them. 1/5 Edward "Hockey Guy" (king of Prussia, PA, United States) - See all my reviews, September 14, 2009

Not really any better than Adobe Standard 9

I've only been using version X for a day and I can see no difference between version 9 and X. I was hoping it would run faster than 9 but it doesn't.It hasn't crashed yet but I'll give it time, its only been a day.The help feature is totally useless. Great application but less features than previous versions

I am sorry but I came here to rant about some bolonga Adobe has done. My last purchase, Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard, included the ability to create pdf portfolios. Apparently, pdf portfolios have become quite popular since Acrobat 8 Standard. Anyways, I purchased Acrobat X Standard after reviewing the product comparison pdf for the different versions of Acrobat X. Somehow I missed the bullet point where the Standard version can nologer make pdf portfolios, only the Pro version can do this. Now, Adobe takes a feature they never thought was going to be as popular as it was, moves it from the Standard version to the Pro all in the sake of making me(us) pay $40 more for a simple creation feature. I am highly upset Adobe has done this.Prior to making this purchase I bought a copy of Nuance PDF Converter Pro 6 because a lot of the reviews said it was the closest comparable out there to Acrobat. I personally didn't like PDF Converter, but the price was right. Yet, now... 5/5 E. West (Federal Way, WA USA) - See all my reviews, July 22, 2011

    Acrobat X Standard

I downgraded from Pro 8.0 to Standard X, and discovered that to upgrade to Standard X, you need to have a prior version of Standard. I downgraded because I wasn't using the features of Pro. But having paid more for the older Pro version, and not being able to upgrade from it to a lesser model kinda sucks. I had to buy an older full version of Standard to make the upgrade work. Also, I noticed that after you combine, for example, say 10 individual files into 1 file, and save the new file, for some reason, it changes the 10 old files without me having done any manipulation to them. So it is more cumbersome to close out all the old files. Before, I used to be able to close all 11 files with one command, so I could delete the 10 old files. But now, it ask you if you want to save file 1, and after you respond "yes" or "no", the menu resets, so you have to start all over again to close all the files individually. So it takes 20x as long to close all the files. So this... 4/5 Peter Yanagawa (Honolulu, HI USA) - See all my reviews, December 8, 2011
