Who Should and Shouldn't Buy This!

Customer Video Review Length:: 5:18 MinsI have used Photoshop Elements since version 2 and I strongly believe it is the best photo-editing program available for under $100. It will do most of the editing tasks that the full version of Photoshop does but at a fraction of the cost. It is the software I have my "Digital Photography" and "Digital Drawing and Painting" students use for the college courses I teach. If you are serious or semi-serious about editing your photos I highly recommend that you purchase this. In addition, an important advantage of learning (and using) Elements is that if you decide to someday move up to the full version of Photoshop all the stuff you learned translates to the more expensive program. Also, there is a TON of instructional material available online (most of it free!) and in books that will help you learn this program.I've included a short video showing a few of the features of Elements 10 and how they compare with the same features in... 5/5 V. Powerful image editor; remains feature-dense (and *really* wants you online for Adobe services!)...

Photoshop Elements (PSE) 10 --like its predecessor versions-- is an image editor with a spectrum of features that will rapidly surpass the skills (and time available to tinker) of most amateur digital photographers...even highly skilled ones. The overall interface will be familiar to user of PSE versions as far back as PSE 6 or 7. It incorporates most of the multiple image merge functions familiar to users since PSE 7. As with previous versions, PSE 10 offers this for a fraction of the cost of its big-brother . Most amateur photographers --and even some frugal professionals-- can perform all but the most advanced digital editing with PSE 10 (and then use the money saved for some nice new hardware!).Note: This review assumes some familiarity with digital photography and digital image concepts, and previous exposure... 4/5 35-year Technology Consumer "8-tracks to 802.11" (Mid Atlantic, USA) - See all my reviews, October 26, 2011

It's an Excellent Software for the Price

I am a user of Photoshop Elements. I downgraded from Photoshop CS(x) as I no longer needed such a powerful program. Adobe Elements offers all of the features that most home users want or need. I have given it four stars instead of five because I think the Help component is lacking. As to the other reviewer who gave this program 1 star, I have to point out that Adobe Photoshop Elements is NOT movie editing software. It is photo editing software. Perhaps she was referring to Adobe Premiere Elements, which is a movie editing software application. 4/5 June Campbell "June" (North Vancouver, BC Canada) - See all my reviews This review is from: Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 (Software) I am a user of Photoshop Elements. A great product. But!

I've been a fan of Adobe "Photoshop" for a long while and CS6 is a great product. It is the standard and there isn't anything else available, free or not, that can compare. CS6 is, of course, much like it's predecessor CS5, and as another reviewer noted much of CS6 are tweaks of what was available in CS5. However, there is much that is new too, such as the "Content Aware Move Tool", and, of course, the interface. And I don't use it alone, it comes with "Bridge" which I find indispensable. But I also use "Lightroom", and "NIK" software, as I do "HDRsoft". They're complementary. Do yourself a favor and see everything this software offers, at the Adobe website. But, what about the "But!" in the title of this review? Ok, the product is great, but, the price is out of sight, but, what truly does annoy me is the break given by this, and other companies, to "educators and students". Give me a break, please. Although the upgrade from an earlier version made the purchase a bit easier. 5/5 William Oterson (About 50 miles, or so, east of Manhattan.) - See all my reviews, May 12, 2012

    New Features are Awesome!

I recently attended a workshop hosted by Adobe to learn about the new features and those qualities alone sold me on purchasing the software. The content aware tools make life to much easier:) 5/5 L. Parker (Southern Caifornia) - See all my reviews, May 11, 2012

CS5.1 with a Lightroom 4-like interface! Nice, but worth the cost of upgrade? Not really...

First off, I want to say the CS6 Photoshop interface looks BEAUTIFUL!!! For those who also own Lightroom 4 will quickly recognize the similarities. Such a huge change would lead you to believe CS6 would be a significant upgrade from CS5.1 photoshop. But unfortunately the differences pretty much stop just below the interface. Yes, there are a few items that are awesome such as "content aware patch" which is a great addition to the CS family but other than that the changes are quite minor or simply small tweaks on features most of us have found workarounds for. For instance they have FINALLY updated their HDR handling but does that mean we all stop using Nik or Photomatix? I doubt it.So it all boils down to this - if you have extra money laying around or you absolutely need these minor tweaks on existing programs then buy this update, you'll love it. It has a beautiful and sleek interface and works everybit as well as CS5.1. However, if you actually use Photoshop to make a... 3/5 D. Winn (San Diego, CA) - See all my reviews, May 10, 2012

    Photoshop CS5

My main interest is photography and after using Photoshop Elements for many years I decided to see what Photoshop CS5 would offer. This software package comes with Bridge which is a Browser that will help you keep track of photos by adding key words, and ratings, etc. It will let you open photos then send them to Photoshop. If you shoot RAW photos Adobe Camera Raw is also included. My first impression of these three elements is very positive. I was especially impressed with Adobe Camera Raw. This very capable program will allow you to do most of the adjustments that a photographer will need to do for non-destructive adjustment of exposure, color, sharpness, spot removal, cropping and more. Bridge is great for organizing photos for projects using other Adobe software along with Photoshop. For organizing hundreds or thousands of photos I think Photoshop Elements Organizer is a little better than Bridge. I think the Elements Organizer is a data base where as Bridge is a browser... 4/5 E. Hill (Cody, Wyoming) - See all my reviews, March 12, 2011

Photoshop CS5 is Worth the Upgrade!

Adobe Photoshop has long been one of the standard graphic and photographic editing applications on the market. Its cross-platform sophistication reaches further than just features and capability, it has been a leader in its field with many applications following in its footsteps.Last year, Adobe released its Creative Suite 5 (CS5) upgrade that further expands the program's capabilities into the world of modern digital photography. CS5 continues its standard toolset of editing gizmos, including a host of adjustment and transform filters that can perform an enormous amount of image manipulation. Those involved in the development of website graphics and image manipulation will be happy to see these features still intact, but the logical question is, what's new? Is it worth the investment to upgrade? How will it benefit me?These are all good questions and the answers focus primarily on enhancements to digital imaging in the modern era of digital photography. A Powerful App But Still Not Perfect

I have been using PhotoShop since 5.2 and its evolution has been interesting. CS5 is without a doubt a very powerful tool for photographers like myself. Its functions just go on and on.However, potential buyers should be aware of some shortcomings. For one thing, CS5 seems to be optimized to 64-bit processors. I was running CS4 on a new 32-bit machine with only a few problems but when I up-graded to CS5 I was frequently getting error messages indicating not enough RAM. I believe that is because RAM is more limited under 32-bit protocols than are 64-bits. The net result was that I had to up-grade my computer, replacing a 10-month-old unit that had a 32-bit processor. Expensive. While that resolved my RAM problems, it led to further problems. One of the great thing about CS5 Photoshop is the ability to customize both PS and the free bundled Bridge to best meet the user's needs. However, it is very difficult to migrate those settings from one computer to... 4/5 Philip H. Kozloff (New York) - See all my reviews, December 11, 2010

Functiionality is nice, but Adobe makes it annoying to upgrade

I use Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, and Premiere/Photoshop Elements and have used them for many years. I upgrade every couple of releases depending upon feature enhancements and budget. It seems like every time I move to a new version, Adobe does it best to inhibit you from just using the product. Besides the migration of catalogs, projects, etc., you end up having to reconfigure the software to get it back to how you want it to work (facial recognition was off in version 8 and I want it off in version 10). And, you have to put up with numerous re-registrations, "would you like to participate in..." and sales pitches. Then, to make matters worse, you have these weird bugs that crop up in new versions...right now with APE 10, software is crashing for no reason, the quick selection tool is only allowing "negative selections"Oh, and did I mention the features they take away that they then try to resell to you in either a "premium" service or... 3/5 John P. Two Decent Types of Software for Under $100

First off, I'd like to remind people that they are buying the Elements version of Adobe software. These are not the Pro versions. There's a reason why those versions are much more expensive. They are going to have many more features. There's a reason this bundle is less than $100. These versions are made for people that don't want to, or need to, take the time to learn everything that the pro versions Photoshop and Premiere can do.Secondly, some people are complaining that they are difficult to use? These are some pretty cut and dry software applications. My 8 year old can use this software (and has). All software has a learning curve. The learning curve for this software is not very high. Yes, there are some things that take time to learn, but if you want to be able to do things that will really make your projects look good, you're going to have to take the time to learn how to properly use all, or at least most, of the features. Is Photoshop Elements... 4/5 Miguel Mas (Calexico, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Adobe Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements 10 (Software) First off, I'd like to remind people that they are buying the Elements version of Adobe software. Learning Curve an acceptable price to pay

I have long avoided moving up to Adobe's Photoshop because of a fear of the steep learning curve for mastering the software. I finally decided that Elements looked like it might be Photoshop with training wheels and I bit the bullet last month. No regrets here! Indeed, the program is so robust that it will undoubtedly take many more weeks and months before I master it all. Meanwhile I'm up and running and have been creating beautiful images from the day of installation. And even if I'm not using 90% of it yet, what the heck; I'm productive. A really good deal!

This version of Photoshop Extended CS5 was perfectly simple to have validated with my student ID. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get it to work if something went wrong with the validation process, but you just have to enter the name of your school (several drop-down lists to navigate)and your student email address. Therefore, if you haven't gotten your email address yet (finished your class registration process), you'll have to wait until you are registered and have the student ID before you can start using your software. Unless maybe you are already a student. Very Useful Program for Digital Photo Pre-Use Management

Those familiar with Photoshop might wonder why an additional product should be needed to manage digital images. I would offer this difference: Photoshop is a program for image manipulation; it's for folks who want to change their photographs or create new substance in an image. Lightroom is a program that, primarily, expedites photography workflow. [By using the term "workflow," I don't mean to imply that it's geared only to those who are in the profession of photography; amateurs and hobbyists alike (like I am), who also wish to prepare quickly and print images, can benefit from this highly-practical and time-efficient program.] You can "tweak" pics very nicely with Lightroom, but Photoshop's the paragon for substantial alteration.Lightroom 3 simplifies enormously the process of preparing photo captures for use, whether as web or print applications. It facilitates quick organization & preview, raw enhancement, printing, and web uploading of photos.The... 5/5 Dean C. Broome Jr. MD (Blackshear, GA USA) - See all my reviews, July 22, 2010

LR 3 Very good for for the right person

I'll start off by saying I thought $300 for a photo program was more than I wanted to spend. I had tried the 30 day trial when LR2 came out, but couldn't get in enough keyboard time during the 30 day trial period. I decided to try the Beta when LR3 B1 came out and actually got about 70 days under my belt before B2 expired.I had bought and used Elements 3 and 7, and while pretty good enhancers, there organizational abilities were weak. By weak, I mean, once they were catalogued and or key worded, they were fine, but the key wording was tedious.Enter LR3. It doesn't have the capability of Elements (or photoshop either, I assume) but it does have enough capability to handle 90+% of what I do. What I usually do is correct color and exposure, saturate or desatureate some colors to enhance the image or de-emphasize the back ground, sharpen things up a bit and or decrease noise, mostly luminous, and apply the lens correction feature. I have also used the curves... 5/5 Hank (Wilmington, DE United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Awesome for processing high volumes...

Lightroom 3 was an awesome addition to my studio. Prior to using lightroom I was using Bridge and PhotoShop to process all my photos. If you go out and shoot a few photos a week I would not recommend dropping the cash to get lightroom. If you shoot or want to shoot 1000+ images a day and don't want to spend most of your time in front of a computer doing post work, buy lightroom 3.Performance: Lightroom 3 works amazingly well on computer running a 64bit OS like win7. After watching a few tutorial videos on the program I was able to add lightroom to my work-flow and get files edited and to my clients about twice as fast as just using BR/PS.Great for:1.Noise reduction (simple and awesome)2.Making small to medium adjustments to photos quickly3.Managing photo meta data4.cataloging and sorting5.getting images to the web6.printing packages7.slide shows8.... 5/5 Well of Mimir - See all my reviews This review is from: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM) Lightroom 3 was an awesome addition to my studio. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4

    Adobe

One of the best software products for digital image development

Adobe Lightroom is Adobe's flag ship digital image development program. When I say "image development" I mean just that. Think of Lightroom as a digital darkroom and now you know what is possible in the software. The first lesson you must learn when using Lightroom is... stop shooting in JPEG. Lightroom can do some amazing things, even with JPEGs, but if you want to enjoy the benefits Lightroom has to offer, you really need to shoot in RAW. You can pull some shadow and some highlight detail from JPEGs, but there is an order of magnitude difference in the amount of detail present in a RAW file. The other thing to realize is that yes, if you have Photoshop, you can do everything Lightroom does. The difference, for now, is Lightroom 4 uses new controls not in Adobe Camera RAW (at the time of this writing - Adobe now offers a new Camera RAW version), which is where a lot of the new highlight/shadow recovery comes from, so for now Lightroom is quite a bit nicer than... 5/5 Stephen M. Exceptional feature set. Faster now, but still a few bugs

**SEE UPDATE AT BOTTOM OF REVIEW*Lightroom 4 is a pretty major release for Adobe. They added some pretty significant features, changed a few of the features they had, and tweaked the image quality and rendering a bit. There is a LOT going on here and I'm not going to try to cover it all (the product description above does a good job). Instead, I am going to focus on what matters to me most - using Lightroom to edit professional images for clients.I'm a professional wedding and portrait photographer and I've been using Lightroom since the release of Lightroom 2. It has since then become the bedrock of my editing routine, covering about 98% of my needs. The remaining 2% is mainly advanced touchup work and is handled by Photoshop CS5. I photograph about 30 weddings and 30-40 portrait sessions a year. I average about 1800 RAW photos per wedding and about 450 per portrait session. This puts my total workload at around 60,000 photos per year and every single... 4/5 J. Howell (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews, March 12, 2012

Lighroom 4 will make you look like a Pro, and great noise reduction.

I had avoided buying Lightroom (LR) for many reasons before, mainly because I have a full blown version of Photoshop 5.5 extended (PS) and also the Nikon ViewNX (RAW converter) was free and pretty good. So if you are a person looking for reason to upgrade from Lightroom 3 to 4, then this review is not for you. I have no clue what Lightroom 3 has missing or what is new compare to this. I will review this base on first timers for Lightroom and people with experience with PS and ViewNX and some corel paint 8 (which I own too). I also use RAW, not jpeg editing.Wow is the first thing I got to say after 2 weeks of usage. Actually, after one day I was ready to return it since I can do everything on here between ViewNX and PS. What I didn't realized later is how much faster I can do adjust things in LR rather than convert it in ViewNX raw to jpeg and then edit it in PS (either jpeg or through Adobe Bridge, ACR). Here are the plus and minus of Lightroom 4 version the other... 4/5 Jeff Tranberry, May 6, 2012

Some great information gems, and some not so great exercises

There are things I really liked about this book and things I really didn't like. The primary thing I didn't like was the approach they took to the exercises. For instance in the section on adjusting color in Camera Raw, they tell you specifically (by number) where to move the temperature, tint, exposure, blacks, contrast, clarity, vibrance, and saturation sliders, but there is no discussion as to why these amounts for this image work. This problem goes on throughout the book. I'd say that's a pretty huge weakness. On page 118 there is a pull out box with the headline "About layer-comps" that has 3 paragraphs talking about how great layer comps are. (It's a way to look at different versions of complicated multi-layer PS file.) But it doesn't tell you how to create one, or even mention that there is a complete discussion of the subject that begins on page 242.But the things I did like make this book worth purchasing. At the end of each section are... 4/5 Tenna Merchent (Noblesville, IN USA) - See all my reviews, August 14, 2010

Adobe should be ashamed to put their name on this book

I am an advanced photographer and have used Photoshop for years. This is the third edition of Classroom in a book for me and I was disappointed. The authors used several of the same old photos. Worse from my viewpoint is that several of the lessons were quite complex with no explanation of the reason for each of the steps. It is like a cookbook which is only useful for making the included recipes but not for learning how to cook. I think the Scott Kelby books are much more useful (and fun). Even the Martin Evening books which I don't like because the print is too small for my tired old eyes and can be rather dry are better than this effort.Maybe a designer would find the book more useful but in my opinion Photographers should avoid it. 2/5 Desert Rat (Palm Springs, CA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
