  Who Should and Shouldn't Buy This!

  Customer Video Review Length:: 5:18 MinsI have used Photoshop Elements since version 2 and I strongly believe it is the best photo-editing program available for under $100. It will do most of the editing tasks that the full version of Photoshop does but at a fraction of the cost. It is the software I have my "Digital Photography" and "Digital Drawing and Painting" students use for the college courses I teach.If you are serious or semi-serious about editing your photos I highly recommend that you purchase this. In addition, an important advantage of learning (and using) Elements is that if you decide to someday move up to the full version of Photoshop all the stuff you learned translates to the more expensive program.   Photoshop Elements (PSE) 10 --like its predecessor versions-- is an image editor with a spectrum of features that will rapidly surpass the skills (and time available to tinker) of most amateur digital photographers...even highly skilled ones. The overall interface will be familiar to user of PSE versions as far back as PSE 6 or 7. It incorporates most of the multiple image merge functions familiar to users since PSE 7.   It's an Excellent Software for the Price

  I am a user of Photoshop Elements. I downgraded from Photoshop CS(x) as I no longer needed such a powerful program. Adobe Elements offers all of the features that most home users want or need. I have given it four stars instead of five because I think the Help component is lacking.As to the other reviewer who gave this program 1 star, I have to point out that Adobe Photoshop Elements is NOT movie editing software. It is photo editing software.   CS5 rocks my boat!

  I've been using Photoshop Elements for a few years now, and it was okay, but I upgraded my camera a year ago and started using Adobe Lightroom (another product that rocks my boat!), and I wanted to use a product that was well-integrated with Lightroom; Elements just wasn't there. Enter CS5.I forgot to mention, too, that I recently made the switch to a Mac at home, so I needed to buy new licenses for everything anyhow. Not only was I looking for a photo editor and a DAM (digital asset manager) tool, I needed a panorama stitcher and an HDR tool. Lightroom is taking care of DAM, and CS5 is taking care of the rest.PRO's:* Everything is integrated under one roof for me -- basic image editing, HDR, panorama generation.* If you have used Elements in the past, you already know part of the program...stuff is basically in the same places, and there's more features to do almost anything imaginable.* Content-aware fill is almost... 5/5 J.   Artist beware...

  This is a lovely piece of software. It's got some great new features, there's no new interface to learn, and it can switch between 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Granted, this is a major pain when you have the audacity to want to add some lighting effects and have to close the program down, adjust the settings to 32-bit, then restart it and do what you want to do, before closing it, resetting it to 64-bit, and getting back to what you were doing.So why, aside from those irritations, am I giving a program with 4-5 star features a paltry 2 stars? (4-5 star functionality, I should note, for my PERSONAL needs. There are scads of problems with CS5 borking printer and scanner drivers, and producing inconsistent prints that are simply unacceptable for those who do lots of printing work. I don't. Your needs and mileage may vary.)Because even though it is a Mac program, it doesn't really play nice with Macs. At least, it doesn't play nice with NEW Macs. So, with that in... 2/5 C.   Not compatible with Mac Snow Leopard

  I had my Snow Leopard system installed by Apple. I have successfuly installed every program on my computer until I got to Photoshop CS5. With PS CS5 I got an error message saying "Installation to case-sensitive drives is not supported." I contacted Adobe support who knew nothing about this and said the problem was with Mac and that I needed to contact Apple. So basically "Photoshop CS5 for Mac" is not compatible with Mac. I contacted Apple customer support and talked to a helpful technician who basically had to go on to Adobe's site and forum boards (where this is apparently a very common problem). It is astonishingly unbelievable that I got better Adobe customer support from Apple than I did from Adobe.After repairing permissions etc., the Apple technician determined the problem with the installation is sloppy scripting from Adobe programmers. We had a student version on an old iMac back when my wife and I were in college, but when I upgraded to a Macbook Pro I picked up Elements (first Elements 6 and now 8) instead of full-blown Photoshop.   Functiionality is nice, but Adobe makes it annoying to upgrade

  I use Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, and Premiere/Photoshop Elements and have used them for many years. I upgrade every couple of releases depending upon feature enhancements and budget.It seems like every time I move to a new version, Adobe does it best to inhibit you from just using the product. Besides the migration of catalogs, projects, etc., you end up having to reconfigure the software to get it back to how you want it to work (facial recognition was off in version 8 and I want it off in version 10). And, you have to put up with numerous re-registrations, "would you like to participate in..." and sales pitches.Then, to make matters worse, you have these weird bugs that crop up in new versions...right now with APE 10, software is crashing for no reason, the quick selection tool is only allowing "negative selections"Oh, and did I mention the features they take away that they then try to resell to you in either a "premium" service or... 3/5 John P.   Two Decent Types of Software for Under $100

  First off, I'd like to remind people that they are buying the Elements version of Adobe software. These are not the Pro versions. There's a reason why those versions are much more expensive. They are going to have many more features. There's a reason this bundle is less than $100. These versions are made for people that don't want to, or need to, take the time to learn everything that the pro versions Photoshop and Premiere can do.Secondly, some people are complaining that they are difficult to use? These are some pretty cut and dry software applications. My 8 year old can use this software (and has). All software has a learning curve. The learning curve for this software is not very high.   Learning Curve an acceptable price to pay

  I have long avoided moving up to Adobe's Photoshop because of a fear of the steep learning curve for mastering the software. I finally decided that Elements looked like it might be Photoshop with training wheels and I bit the bullet last month.No regrets here! Indeed, the program is so robust that it will undoubtedly take many more weeks and months before I master it all. Meanwhile I'm up and running and have been creating beautiful images from the day of installation. And even if I'm not using 90% of it yet, what the heck; I'm productive. (And I'm told we don't use about 90% of our brain either.)Online tutorials and tons of help buttons and tools are always available.   I installed Photoshop Elements 10 on my 2.8 GHz i7 iMac, running System 10.6.8. Since many reviewers of the boxed version have thoroughly discussed the features of Photoshop Elements already, I am focusing this review on my experiences with using PSE in conjunction with Apple iPhoto.Background*My main camera is a 7-year old "prosumer" Nikon. Back when my camera was new, digital SLR's were primarily targeted to professionals and compact digital cameras had extremely limited functionality.   Nice improvements

  When I saw this was on promo, I snatched it up. Just bought a new iMac, so I felt I needed the latest version to be sure I was 100% Lion compatible. The upgrade from ver 6 to 10 was very smooth and easy.I have used Elements 3, 6 and now 10. I truly enjoyed Elements 6, and 10 brings some new refinements. I really like the new guided edits. There are many that I now use on a regular basis.   Download-Install Warning

  On my Mac desktop running Lion I was using iPhoto, but decided to try the new PSE 10...as the download proceeded, an iPhoto screen appeared saying "downloading images"...suddenly, over 5000 images (no photos) used by PSE 10 started to download, I pushed the stop button on the screen to no avail...then I had to spend a few hours manually deleting all of them...so, Mac owners, if you have iPhoto on your computer beware of this glitch. Then, once the PSE 10 program was installed, all my iPhoto photos were seen in the PSE 10 Organizer, but they were not in the albums that I had them placed in iPhoto...it would have taken me hours to re-organize my 4000 photos...or a call to the overseas call center that Adobe uses...I decided to just uninstall the whole program and stick with iPhoto. 1/5 Marvin J.   Certainly a worthwhile upgrade from CS4

  though I can't stay whether it would be worthwhile if you are using CS5.5. I'm reviewing the Public Beta version, BTW, and I won't be upgrading from CS4 simply because it is far too expensive. Adobe needs to realise that students aren't the only people on low incomes.Some of the main reasons to update to CS6 (especially from CS4) are that so many of the things that didn't work at all well in earlier versions of Photoshop work extremely well in the CS6 version. I clearly remember the days when brightness and contrast would NEVER be used by professional photographers. And neither professional photographers nor professional graphic designers would have used the burn and dodge tools, which now work brilliantly. The same goes for the auto tone, auto contrast and auto colour. The content-aware move tool is also quite impressive, though it doesn't work brilliantly for ALL images.   Turns out I'm late to this party. This upgrade will not work with a Creative Suite Serial Number even though your Suite contains a "Complete" and "numbered" version of Photoshop CSx. It says that deep in the fine print, but why would you continue reading after you see EXACTLY your version is upgradable.   PRETTY GOOD BUT....

  this is much the same as CS4 but with a few new features,but one thing you should know is that most plug-ins currently only work in 32bit,therefore you must start it in 32bit(double click on the PS icon in finder and "get info",then tick the box "open in 32bit").The problem here is that PS CS5 can only access 2gb ram max,unlike 32bit CS4 which can access 4gb ram,so perhaps it would be wise to hold on to your cs4 until all the plug-ins are re-written as 64bit,most will be available in the next 3 months.apart from this its a nice upgrade! 4/5 Jeff Tranberry, May 19, 2010

  not worth it

  Been using Photoshop CS4 on a MAC for sometime and works like a champ. Upgraded to CS5 hoping to reap the benefits of the new release only to end up sending it back. Consistently crashed while editing images - crashed randomly, however consistently crashed. Adobe must have 50 plus crash reports from me in a little over a week of use. Not only that, when flipping images in CS5 Bridge so they would display correctly when being edited, these correction did not carry over to Photoshop CS5 as they do in CS4. Net, net, could not work with the product due to the number of application crashes - you can just loose you work only so many times. Reverted back to the old version of Photoshop (CS4) and have had no issues since.   Just what I expected!

  I bought this student edition on Monday and received it today (Wednesday) and couldn't be happier with how things turned out. I read some other reviews and was expecting to have a difficult time to verify that I was a student, but I had no troubles at all. I think it's silly to blame Amazon for what is clear to be an Adobe policy. If you go to the link that Amazon provides to see whether you qualify as a student or staff Adobe sets out very clear bullet points as to who can qualify. I thought I would have to send in copies of my picture ID and some other school forms but Adobe let me use my student email as part of the verification process and I received my serial number within seconds after hitting submit. I am very happy I went through Amazon to purchase this package as I couldn't find this particular item on the Adobe website. Just for Indesign alone on their website was 199.99 but you get so much more with this package for just a little more extra money.   Waiting to find out if I'm even eligible?

  I agree with ME Raines.You can't know if you're eligible until you open the package and run your information through Adobe.From the box:"STOP! Before installing this product, you must obtain a Student and Teacher Edition serial number by following the instructions enclosed."Seems harmless enough...Where are those instructions you ask? In the box, wrapped in plastic.What are those instructions? Go online, use the serial number (in the plastic wrapped box), and take photos of your student ID, provide billing info, and/or email address.None of this information is on the outside of the box OR on this Amazon desc. page.So of course you have to open the box. Which makes it, according to Amazon, ineligible for return???I bought this as an honest, adult student--but now I feel like I'm not enough of a student?   WARNING-CHECK FOR ELIGIBILITY BEFORE BUYING!

  I'm really ticked. You cannot download this software until Adobe approves of you as a teacher or student.As the owner of and instructor in a post-secondary vocational school, I bought this product, believing I qualified. I called to find out more about proof of eligibility as a student or teacher, and this product is pretty much limited to elementary schools, high schools and colleges. My school, it turns out, is not eligible. Furthermore, I spoke with a gentleman representing Adobe who was obviously not from the USA. He couldn't even understand that a "postsecondary vocational school" is a category of school, not the official name of an institution. When I gave him the name of my school, his language barriers prevented him from being able to repeat it correctly. Regardless, I eventually discovered I wasn't eligible. (Adobe needs to stop shipping jobs overseas!)As for the product itself, I am sure it is excellent. Fortunately, I didn't open the package.I am now going... 1/5 M. E.
