    Slower but Safe

You have a choice to make when you install internet security software. Some products wrap your laptop in a secure fortress. That's great, as long as you don't mind waiting for your browser to load. Every. time. Some products are faster, but they leave you with some doubt. When will I get the cornficker? For people that want to risk it and go more quickly, it is possible to just buy one anti-virus program and then run the Window firewall. That isn't entirely a bad idea, particularly if you are using a router. If you are on a modem or some kind of dial-up, with no buffer between your computer and the outside world, then you need more. If you are going to use your laptop at an internet cafe, you probably need to err on the safe side, as well.I run CA at work. It is very slow. The other day, my CA firewall blocked me from accessing our share drive. I wouldn't even dare to use the program that puts content safeguards in place in order to protect children. It makes it... 3/5 Adam Rust "a_rust" (Durham, NC) - See all my reviews, November 10, 2010

I have used Webroot Anti-virus for several years, and in recent months moved up to Internet Security Complete. The extra protection and pre-warning of doubtful web-sites is a big bonus. Love this product-quick and comprehensive for our needs

We have used this product for the last 3-4 years and love it for Spyware and general Internet production. We had Spysweeper with Antivirus previously and now are using the Internet Protection package just received, which I am here reviewing.Compared the the other version we had, this one seems a bit less smoother in its interface, with tabs that are laid out in a simple interface, and the settings are pre-set to allow for regular scans and background protection.Websites are now automatically tagged as safe or unsafe, when they appear in search results, and the pop up that alerts us of intrusions seems to function quicker and quickly disappears (the other one seems to be a bit more jagged when it appears). The other fact to note is that this product has not slowed down either of our laptops or desktops significantly, while scanning. Some other "suite" type products practically grinds the computer to a halt, which can be intrusive and annoying, but we... 5/5 :::DIGITAL BABE::: ":::DIGITAL BABE:::" - See all my reviews This review is from: Webroot Internet Security Complete 3-User (DVD-ROM) Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) Found a New Security Software Package

Prior to this I was an avid Kaspersky user. Recently I had noticed some odd things on my computer. After running a scan with Kaspersky (which was supposed to be protecting me real time) a trojan was found. I let Kas. take care of it and thought nothing more about it.It was coming up for renewal, so I searched reviews on PCMag and other places. The Webroot was rated very well compared with Kaspersky. The price at Amazon was too good to beat, so I took the plunge. After installing and running through the update, I ran the first scan. It found several cookies and another trojan that Kaspersky failed to protect me from.I have noticed that the Webroot Security Essentials blocks alot of suspicious javascript and css files when visiting red district websites. I would highly recommend this over Kaspersky. The interface is seamless and pretty well hands off unless you want to tweak the settings. I decided to let the program handle the recommended settings and I... 5/5 R. Rose - See all my reviews, June 15, 2011

    Webroot Internet Security Essentials Review

I'm generally pleased with WISE since it does not slow my computer down. The only complaints I have is that WISE'S antivirus and spyware protection is slow to get switched on after my computer is turned on. Also, security scans take about an hour; I would prefer 30-40 minutes to do a scan. I would recommend Webroot to other computer users. 4/5 cybernauta (Lexington, KY, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Webroot Internet Security Essentials 3-User (DVD-ROM) I'm generally pleased with WISE since it does not slow my computer down. Webroot AV

I have used Webroot's spyware program for years and always found it to be top notch and reasonably priced. As Comcast Cable subscribers we have access to free AV software which was originally Mcafee until they switched to Norton a while back. Both did their job fairly well and except for one instance where something was able to slip through, I found them to be adequate for my needs. Lately, I started to experience some lock-ups and sluggishness while on the net and after doing all of the typical diagnostic procedures I realized that the Norton AV was running a little more "heavier" in the background than I would like, and though this was being done for my benefit, was causing me problems in day to day use. As I said, I always found Webroot SpySweeper to be a great product and decided to take a look into their AV offerings. After learning that they do not produce their own AV program, I checked out the company who they collaborate with and found them to be a big player in the... 5/5 Vince D. - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Waste of money, terrible customer service

I purchased Webroot complete 2011 for my new toshiba laptop at the end of April 2011. One month later, I started getting lots of error messages "windows can't find hard drive" "Private data at risk" "hard drive failure" !!! I immediately called Toshiba and they told me a had a virus and to contact Webroot. I attempted to call two days in a row, first day the wait time to speak with a tech 50 min. I hung up after 30 min. Second day I acually held the line for over 1 hr and was then disconnected!!!! Thats when I decided to write this review. I saved my hard earned money to buy my laptop, I trusted this software would protect my investment its just a scam. I will try to call webroot AGAIN early in the morning. 1/5 ritabenney - See all my reviews This review is from: Webroot Internet Security Complete 2011 1PC (DVD-ROM) I purchased Webroot complete 2011 for my new toshiba laptop at the end of April 2011. The first problem I had with this product is registering it. Then it would not download correctly. Only half of it worked. So I got a refund from the seller and that was the only good part of this, (I wasnt stuck with this) because I have tried numerous times to get the program off my computer but it wont uninstall completely. Every time I start my computer it starts up and reads error. When I have tried to uninstall it, it says it doesnt exist but Webroot icon exist and it begins when I start up my computer. I cant fully get rid of it.IF Webroot is a good product I would never know it. I wont try anymore of their products after this. 1/5 Roa - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Lighter than light and faster than fast

I'll say straight out that PCMag.com has it absolutely correct in their review of this. I decided to throw my two cents into the bucket here because of the interesting information here. Overall, having poked at computer security since 1995 (Webroot wasn't even a twinkle in anybody's eye back then), I can safely say that this is an amazing product! Not without fault, of course, as nothing ever is these days. This review covers an ongoing use including the past three months. Read on!DISCLAIMER:I -WILL NOT- review the efficacy of security products. The rule is simple: NOTHING will ever protect you 100%. So hope for the best and prepare for the worst. If you are interested in efficacy information, see major tech reviews or any reputable testing agency and remember that the challenge out there in the field changes from month to month and even day to day. Test results are usually not a display of reality even a week later.=======================... 5/5 David Parenteau "Geek" (Westminster, CO United States) - See all my reviews, January 26, 2012

    Not as advertised

While the amazon website and the webroot box both say the software provides 15 months of protection, after installing it and checking the remaining service time, it only provides 12 months. A call to Webroot was a deadend as they said they don't sell to Amazon (although it was fulfilled by and shipped from Amazon) so they said call Amazon as it was there problem. A call to Amazon indicated it was Webroots problem. Amazon did offer a full refund within 30 days, however. So, short story long, if you buy this product, expect to get 80% of what is advertised! 3/5 bobcat - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Webroot leads the industry again

Hat's off to Webroot, who continues to lead the industry on the cutting edge. They may not be the biggest, but they're obviously the brightest. 365 days of coverage

I tried the 15 day demo and was impressed at how fast this antivirus scan my computer. I'm also happy that the file size is so small. I was going to buy it from the manufacture but saw that it was $5 less here and I jumped on it.The reason for the 4 stars is because my subscription term stated "365 days." Where is my extra 90 days? I'm too lazy to call amazon or the manufacture so I'll just live with the 1 year.Update: 4/12/12I have my extra 90 days without doing anything. The manufacture took care of me. Great security

This program is fast, it scanned my computer in 5 minutes. It includes rootkit removal, which is necessary for any decent security program.I've had other that don't, McAfee for one and you have to fight with them to have it removed. This doesn't take long to download and installs very well. As far as I can see there are no conflicts between programs. 5/5 S. Dobbs "Patros" (Wisconsin) - See all my reviews, April 12, 2012

    Slows browsing.

Small size, faster computer startup, but I think that working from the cloud really slows things down. I run Firefox and noticed that graphic-heavy pages were very slow to load, and many times it would say "not responding". My wife runs IE and she complained that going back to previous pages got to be unresponsive. I know it was Webroot because I installed another program and I don't have these issues any more. Webroot is very reputable, just didn't work on my PC. I uninstalled the program and got my money back from Webroot. 3/5 C. Quan - See all my reviews, April 21, 2012

Does the job but you need to use it right

I have gradually migrated all my PCs to Webroots Internet Security Essentials after much frustration with Norton (have used Norton since 1982)and McAfee and MS Defender. I liked that Webroot found spyware in my archived hard drive files that other programs had scanned and missed. And Webroot pipes up when it blocks something, which others may block without letting you know and then you have a non-responding program with no obvious cause. You do have to install it right for it to work without too many problems however. I also agree Webroot support hasnt been very responsive when I had problems I had to noodle out myself. As for the reviews posted; you can check the tick box so it logs into the backup accont automatically, and you can configure the priority Webroot has over CPU time. The default is "high" and you can set it down. I also have scheduled cleanups, sweeps and backups in the middle of the night so there is no competition. You must use the training feature and then review... 4/5 Richard W. Reeves "Tempus Fugit" (Bay Area, CA) - See all my reviews, January 1, 2010

Great when it works, crippling when it doesn't...which is most of the time

I bought Webroot Internet Security to get rid of some extra stubborn adware and viruses that infected my computer via a thumb drive. Well, it worked great to get rid of those issues. Since then (3 weeks) its become almost unbearable to live with and my computer is no slouch: 3.4Ghz dual core processor, 2Gbs of Ram, and a 10,000 rpm hard drive running XP Pro.The Positives:Extremely thorough. Lots of settings. Online backup included free. The Negatives:Takes forever (easily a couple minutes) to load at startup. Likes to freeze at the end of a sweep. When the program freezes, you can't terminate it from the Task Manager and if you try to, you will end up crashing freezing windows every time, which means you have to perform a hard reset. Intolerably intrusive. Every time my computer starts up I get the same messages asking me whether applications I have time and time before approved can connect to the internet. A nice Surprise

I have tested many different AntiVirus Software over the last 10 years. Some consume the majority of your system resources and clog your system with giving you little or no protection, where others partially clog and partially protect. Then there is the scanning. I have 3TB of files on my system, most AntiVirus software takes over 2 - 5 hours to scan, and I can not work on my computer at the same time. This one takes less than 2.5 minutes for a full scan. I have yet to find a product that works half as good as a Webroot product. I have used Webroot Spysweeper for five years and I insist my clients use it as well on the computer systems I build or fix for them. When Webroot asked me to Beta test this product I was willing because I felt confident in their products. It installs quickly and then quietly works in the background... so quietly that I actually forgot it was there, until one day it popped up informing me that it found something. Product not the same as it once was.

Once upon a time I loved Webroot. Then something happened. With a previous version, two of the computers when I upgraded to the next version, the license duration reset to one-day. Customer support was never able to resolve that. So I upgraded to only one computer with my 3-pack. I've had trouble with web pages over time -- careful with google; too many abandoned, orphaned links with wrong information. I cannot get the automated support to work today. So I called: estimated wait time, over one-hour. And now they have downgraded features mid-stream of my license -- they no longer scan cookies. How many products are there when you download an update, the update downgrades your service? The one positive thing: the new version is really fast! For me that does not really matter since it is not doing what it was advertised to do. 1/5 Fishfiddler - See all my reviews This review is from: Webroot SecureAnywhere Antivirus 2012 (3 PCs) (CD-ROM) Once upon a time I loved Webroot. For me that does not really matter since it is not doing what it was advertised to do. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 27, 2012

False advertising on box for 3 months free.

I received the CD, which only has a file that contacts the website. The website then warns me of expiration of my license and takes me to an order form. This disagrees with the instructions included with the CD that states I'd be prompted for a keycode. So the installation CD is too stupid to know that it IS the new order. Called support, wait time over 1 hour. Hung up, scrounged around, and found out how to enter a new keycode to activate the license. Once activated, the software states that I have 365 days remaining. That is 12 months, not 15. The package was false advertising. I called sales, who just said I'd have to call customer support, which by then was closed. In addition, the software is too stupid (for obvious reasons) to tack on the new purchase to days remaining on the old purchase. Good thing I waited until the last expiration day. If I loaded it a month ago, I would have just had double coverage and no extension of time. I'll see how tech support handles... 1/5 Greg Davis, February 23, 2012

    be afraid be very afraid!

Stay the heck away from this software!!I personally use the Spy sweeper program which does come with this software but the entire Webroot Security Esssentials is a big JOKE! I used this software for about a month because i needed a new anti-virus and firewall.I figured since i was running the Spy Sweeper anyway(which is a good program)the rest of Webroots products must just be as good.Boy was i wrong!! As soon as i installed it,i had nothing but problems with it.Wouldnt update itself and would freeze my computer up all the time.Plus i couldnt connect to the internet!Heck the software would even freeze itself up.I contacted Webroot and they did respond.I had to completely uninstall the Firewall that came with the software and download some other version Firewall they sent me.This worked for about 3 days and then it was back to freezing up again and no connecting.I was very disappointed considering the Spy Sweeper itself is a decent program.I wrote back to Webroot wanting a refund but i... 1/5 bcom (USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Webroot Internet Security Essentials 3-User (CD-ROM) Stay the heck away from this software!!I personally use the Spy sweeper program which does come with this software but the entire Webroot Security Esssentials is a big JOKE! Webroot has done a good job on my PC

I had Webroot Spysweeper and Norton Antivirus on my PC. The Spysweeper caught a trojan virus that Norton failed to detect so I decided to try Webroot Internet Security Essentials. The software has a training mode for the firewall where it studies the behavior on your PC for a number of days. I recommend that you set up this training mode to keep the firewall from blocking internet connections and software programs already on your computer. Webroot has been on my computer for about three months and has blocked 1 malware program and also spyware. I cannot say about their customer service because I have not yet had to use it. I have noticed that my computer does run a bit slower with Webroot, but overall I am happy with it. 4/5 Blunt Consumer (Southern CA, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Webroot Internet Security Essentials 3-User (CD-ROM) I had Webroot Spysweeper and Norton Antivirus on my PC. Works fine on win7 starter (Note:Webroot upgraded my older version to the secureanywhere suite, so it would work on win7)

Feb 2012:I was hesitant to install this package on my win7 netbook which runs win7 starter, as it is now feb 2012 and this program only lists windows XP and VISTA on the outer pkg.I figured that a worse case scenario might be; I'd at least be offered a discounted update price to the 2012 version.Surprisingly I was updated to the SecureAnywhere version. Cool. The program seems to run fine, no installation problems. The scans are quick, the updates work fine and the program does not seem to affect the netbook's performance (performance is very important on a netbook which uses an Atom intel CPU, as the atom is not a powerful CPU).I am satisfied with this software, it's functionality and it's real world performance.Note:I would NOT buy this older webroot software package, EXPECTING to get a free update to the Webroot SecureEssentials, because any/all updates provided by any software vendor, are made... 5/5 DISenchanted (NM USA -Land of DISenchantment) - See all my reviews This review is from: Webroot Internet Security Essentials 3-User (CD-ROM) Feb 2012:I was hesitant to install this package on my win7 netbook which runs win7 starter, as it is now feb 2012 and this program only lists windows XP and VISTA on the outer pkg.I figured that a worse case scenario might be; I'd at least be offered a discounted update price to the 2012 version.Surprisingly I was updated to the SecureAnywhere version.
