About this book
Cybercrime, cyber security, and privacy are three legs of a stool and they work interdependently. The ABA's Privacy & Computer Crime Committee has written the International Guide to Combating Cybercrime, International Guide to Cyber Security and International Guide to Privacy with public/private participation from academia, industry, non-profits, attorneys, government officials, and technical experts. These books discuss the practical and global issues associated with privacy, security, and cybercrime. Topics include an exploration of global trends in privacy, jurisdictional differences that thwart investigations and prosecutions, special challenges for developing countries and multinational corporations who are outsourcing, the protection of critical infrastructure, and technical considerations. This comprehensive series will link the various themes together and demonstrate how to create an enterprise security program. Book jacket.

Decent Security Suite - with a caviat
I have used Trend Micro's security solutions in the past and there have been both good and bad versions that have hit my desk. I was hopeful that this version would be a big improvement from the last version I tried (the 2010 edition) and while it is there are important considerations that I believe make this package overpriced.I loaded Titanium Internet Security 2012 on a 32-bit Windows XP target, with a 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 with 2 GB RAM. This system cannot be considered cutting edge by most standards anymore but it is sufficient for running this security suite.Although the requirements on the packaging list a number of acceptable browsers for Titanium to work, what it doesn't tell you is that MSIE version 7.0 or better MUST be installed for the package to even load. Keep this in mind, as it is easy to get very frustrated when loading this package on an older target. Once I loaded MSIE 8.0 on the target machine I had no more issues with installation - it... 4/5 Matthew K. Morgan (Ruther Glen, VA USA) - See all my reviews, October 8, 2011SoFar So Good
I installed this program on an older computer used primarily for surfing and email. Other security suites really slowed this computer down and were not all that effective. I was particuarly attracted by the promise of easy set up and economic use of disk space and memory. The package comes with two cds, one for PCs and one for MAC. Installation is easy. Just pop the CD in and follow the instructions. I did have to update a service pack on the computer before I was able to install the program. I did think the actual installation and activation time was a tad long, about ten minutes not including download of an update to the titanium program. Other than that, the program seems to be working well without interfering with the computer's performance. Notably, this program does not have the constant alerts and notifications youget with other security suites. There are customizable parental controls, data theft protection and a system cleaner that removes cookies, browsing... 4/5 Antigone Walsh - See all my reviews, October 6, 2011Long term TM user disappointed
Did some evaluative online research which stated Norton, Kaspersky etc overall better than TM which had degraded in malware deterrence effectiveness. Please confirm this yourself and comment as needed. Tried the 2012 TM anyway as we had been using it for years and had been satisfied. BIG PROBLEMS with the installation disc and then with TM's Firewall Booster apparently making Windows firewall permanently inoperable during TM installation. The system event log confirmed TM application errors. TM technical support was brief, unsympathetic and simply gave out Microsoft's technical support 800 number, ie, they said MS firewall not our problem, goodbye. Conclusion, am returning TM 2012 security suite for refund. In this process discovered that Microsoft's free Security Essentials may be a better product, and if need be Kaspersjy 2012 has well reviewed SW firewall. I suspect that TM expects loss of viability in the near future. Goodbye Trend Micro. 1/5 Jack Ole Blue Eyes - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) [original review - see update below]I have used Trend for many years. It seemed like they finally got it right with 2009. It was quick, reliable, and had lots of options. After that subscription expired I got a notice to download this new "Titanium" thing (billed automatically by Digital River - that won't happen again!).I downloaded it and it installed okay, but there are practically no advanced settings. It is so dumbed-down. You cannot really fine tune the scanning any more, and there is no ability to control the home network the way you could with the previous version. About all you can do is set a few parental controls and very, very simple filtering. It also seemed to slow down Firefox briefly. It's like Firefox would be unresponsive for the first ten seconds or so before it was usable. Not sure if it was due to the antivirus but the correlation was there - it started as soon as I installed the new version.Despite my... 2/5 Okay, listen ... I have been using Trend Micro antivirus for several years now and have always liked it. This version is my favorite - it is everything you need and nothing you don't need. No stand alone firewall is included, but it does have enhancements to the windows firewall - however, for home use, I always turn software firewalls off since they tend to block network printers and my router provides more than enough hardware firewall protection for my home network. There's very little to configure with this, which makes it great for many users who don't understand complicated security software. As far as the person who said it blocked internet access while updating, I haven't experienced that issue. I haven't experienced any issues with it at all - it just runs quietly in the background doing it's thing very unobtrusively. My most important criteria is that it not slow my pc down, and this does that very well - seems to be lighter on resources than many other offerings out there. 5/5 Thomas (Houston, Tx) - See all my reviews This review is from: Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security 2011 - 3 User (Software) Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) I've used many internet security programs including Norton and McAfee. Prior to installing Trend Micro Titanium, I was using Bit Defender until I found it too obtrusive, fickle and annoying. The Trend Micro Titanium is easy to install and doesn't slow down the system. What I like best is that it works quietly in the background and doesn't bombard the user with incessant messages, pop-ups, and sales pitches.Controls for the program are straightforward and easy to understand and set up. I like the displays showing history of scans and security reports. On another computer I have a 2010 version of a Trend Micro program that has worked flawlessly for many months. I even got an offer from Trend Micro to update to the Titanium version for free. How can you beat that? This Potato Head is very pleased with Trend Micro and will stick with it. 5/5 Spudman (Pasadena, MD United States) - See all my reviews, November 12, 2010Security reports; spam blocking; prevents hackers and spyware from stealing sensitive dataCloud technology automatically stops viruses and spyware before they reach your computerCustomizable parental controls; light demands on system resources, so it won't slow you downRemoves the guesswork; friendly display screens and set-it-and-forget-it simplicityStrong, fast, and easy-to-use Internet protection with real-time updates -

I certainly like to give rave reviews to all products I purchase. It makes me feel I did my homework before I made the buy. It also makes me feel that it was hard earned money well spent. I can't say that about my recent purchase of Trend Micro's Titanium Internet Security. I have a laptop that I bought a few months ago. It is still very quick to bring up any program, but...GOOD LORD!! After installing this, I couldn't bring up any program(e-mail,internet browser,my favorite cribbage game), for a good 7-8 minutes after turning the laptop on. There was just no response by any program. I uninstalled it less than a week after it was installed. I have a different anti-virus running now. Everything is back to normal. I WILL NOT recommend this to anyone. 1/5 rich - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Trend is the best anti-virus program I've ever used (I have used McAfee and Nortons in the past). Trend does not slow down your computer at boot up at all. I have never had any computer security issues while using Trend. The scans work extremely quickly and the program updates automatically. The only downside I have found is the Parental Controls settings to block websites are too wide ranging and can affect your web-browsing experience. I had blocked everything and overrode controls whenever I knew a site was safe but it negatively affected the amazon.com website and my e-mail browser. When my computer stopped working because of viruses in 2003, I went to a popular electronics store to have it repaired. When he asked what new anti-virus program I wanted, I asked what he used. He recommended Trend. Other than when I was in college and required to use another program, I have used Trend ever since and have been very satisfied. 4/5 Blue Hen 2011 (Delaware, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Pretty Good Security Software
Over the years I have used several different computer security packages: McAfee, Norton, BitDefender and most recently Kaspersky. With the exception of one version of BitDeffender, I have been generally satisfied with all of them. Nonetheless, I like to change my computer security every once in a while. Each implementation has its own strengths and weaknesses, and it's likely that one software package will be able to detect a few files and threats that the other had ignored. The number of different virus protection and online security solutions has dramatically increased over the years, so it's important to do a little bit of research and familiarize yourself with various options that you have. Over the years I've greatly benefitted from the Amazon customers' reviews, and I hope that my review will help you with your shopping decisions.I installed Titanium Internet Security on three Windows PCs: Dell Windows 7 Ultimate desktop with AMD 3600+ 2.00 GHZ CPU, 3 GB RAM and 250... 4/5 Dr. Bojan Tunguz (Indiana, USA) - See all my reviews, October 7, 2011Trend Micro Max Security
PROS: Installation is fairly fast and easy. I like the page ratings. Links that are good are green with a check beside them. Norton does this also. Trend Micro also rates links within emails. It can be installed on three computers. You can download SafeSync for free. With this software, you can sync the data of all your computers. It must be downloaded to each computer.CONS: During the installation, it uninstalled Spybot Search & Destroy, claiming that it was incompatible. Spybot S&D had a few choice comments about that. When choosing to uninstall, a window pops up which states: "We were not able to reproduce the alleged incompatibility and Trend Micro is not able to produce an explanation either. I have been having serious problems with my computers slowing down, not recognizing hyperlinks, not sending passwords properly and the security software itself turning off for no apparent reason & worse of all, I can't download security updates from windows automatically or at all for that matter. I thought this software would find & fix the problem but it did nothing and found no problems even though there clearly are serious security issues with my pc & my laptop. So, I loaded the free security software that comes with Windows 7, Microsoft Security Essentials, and in short order it found several malware. The Microsoft Security Essentials is a free software that actually works with the exception that I still can't download security updates from windows either automatically or by doing it manually. Confusing to install
I was really excited to find this on Amazon for under $20 because the same product was supposed to be almost $70 to install from the Trend Micro website. I chose to use the download feature from Amazon.com because my old security was set to expire tomorrow. I found it did not install or update instantly; after 1 hour of freaking out and thinking I would still have to purchase the $70 Trend Micro internet security, I played around with my current Trend Micro Security and realized I could delete the old product key and enter the new one in it's place. I guess it wasn't a difficult fix, but I was not prepared to do it and wasn't given instruction that this is what had to be done in order to install the new product. I also don't know how this would work if a person didn't have the old version of Trend Micro--or maybe that was my problem in the first place? I don't really know. But it seems to be working now. 4/5 taertman2516 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I also had a little difficulty installing this product. I had to uninstall the previous security program for this one to download. Then I needed to find my product key code. This is found in my amazon account. It is found under "Digital Content," and then "Your Games and Library Content."After doing those things, it was very easy to download.I was glad for the low price on this internet security.
It has protected my computer very well for more than a month now. I am very pleased with this product. 5/5 S. [original review - see update below]I have used Trend for many years. 5/5 Spudman (Pasadena, MD United States) - See all my reviews, November 12, 2010Light on system resources so your PC runs fasterDesigned to be easy-to-use and understand with simple screens and graphical reportsBlocks spamReal-time updates safeguard you from the latest on-line threats today and in the futureParental controls keep kids safe on-line -

It blocked attempts to get my financial info!
I uninstalled my expiring Kaspersky and installed Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security. The process took practically all day because there was so much that needed to be cleaned up, but after the installation was complete and my first full scan and system tuneup was done, WOW, my computer is a lot faster now! I'm having far less problems during and after booting up, too, because I set Trend Micro to delay loading startup programs until after the OS finishes booting.I was sent the 1-PC version to review instead of the 3-PC version I thought I was getting. I was disappointed about this, because our household is wirelessly networked and I wanted to have a chance to see how our network as a whole behaved with the Trend Micro product protecting all of our computers. Too bad I can't address the product's performance at that level. I did have a brief snafu with our local network not being automatically recognized, but a quick and pleasant exchange with customer support via chat... 5/5 Diane Kistner (Georgia) - See all my reviews, November 2, 2010No pop ups or update reminders.
Overall: Easy to use and doesn't need to constantly update like Norton or Mcafee, but may not have as good protection against older viruses.Pros:Easy to install.Takes about 10 minutes and you only need to enter an email address and your product key.Won't slow down your computer. Recent test on Tom's Hardware showed this software doesn't slow down computer for web browsing, games or productivity software. In my experience, the computer runs fast and it loads faster than McAfee.NO updates. This is "cloud based" so you won't get those annoying update reminders. However, I've heard that this approach is not so good at catching older viruses and malware.Cons:Doesn't have it's own firewall program. Has a firewall "booster" that just uses Windows Firewall instead.Windows firewall works fine, but you would expect the program to have it's own firewall program.Lack of configuration options. Internet Security for the Family
Years ago I used Trend's free online scanner as part of my shareware protection and then proceeded to use Norton for a few years and then McAfee products. So I was happy to try Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2011. And they are not kidding; this package has so many options that I will never use. But if you have small children and you want to make it harder for them to find ways to get to content you feel is not appropriate this may be the package for you.Though the software loads without problem in order to get full use of all this software's abilities you will need to take a little time to set up. This is because of the many features offered. I did look at the sections for limiting access and time for users though I do not have that turned on and I am not using the 10 GB backup for I have 1TB backup drives here on site. For your e-mail protection and surfing you need to fine tune the software it seems to be very restrictive even blocking secure sites. But once you... 4/5 M. A. Do not buy this product!! I have been a TrendMicro customer for approximately 5 years. I recently upgraded to Trend Micro Titanium edition. It is has been a nightmare. It began by using 90% of the memory so nothing else would run. I tried to uninstall and then it corrupted my administrator profile and I was unable to do anything. My computer is currently being worked on by an IT specialist who has logged about 30 hours trying to remove Trend and avoid reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling. Unfortunately my hard drive must be reformatted and restored with my original restore disc. There is no support or fix at TrendMicro for this problem which many people are having. I usually only write positive reviews but I truly want to help others avoid this nightmare if I am able. 1/5 Luvs a Great Deal - See all my reviews This review is from: Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2011 - 1 User (CD-ROM) Do not buy this product!! having used TrendMicro products for years with three computers, it was a "no-brainer" to order Titanium Maximum Security for two new computers. Ordered through amazon.when the download/installation process was almost completed, the final step is to register the product with trendmicro. Unfortunately for me, it's been some time since I needed to know my passwords for admission to trendmicro's site log-in, and the ones I previously noted DID NOT work. This would not be a problem if there was a "forgot password" choice. There is not. There is no way to access help from trendmicro from their web site or my installed/almost installed program. No "Contact Us" or "Help" selections. So am I protected? Don't know! So far it was a waste of money. 1/5 William - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
