Less cluttered interface and fairly faster than 2011

Norton woke-up in 2009/10 making the interface user-friendly and its signature updates running in the background making the software less resource-hogging. It's continuing the same trend this year (NIS2012) with a little less cluttered interface - meaning most features automated for the novice user, but you have to dig in deep to make advanced changes. It works well with Windows7 as well as Win XP if you care (I don't have Vista - so cannot comment about that).1. Installation: As in the recent versions of NIS, installation was a snap. It took under 2 minutes, but needed a restart. If you have existing license for NIS, download the update from support -> check for new version menu item from within NIS. You can update the license number from the disk later when your license is about to expire. In previous version(s), NIS overwrote existing license period if you upgraded from disk. I havent checked it on this version (I still have about 90 days left, too risky!!)... 5/5 Gene Cloner (St Louis) - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2012 - 1 User 3PC (Software) Norton woke-up in 2009/10 making the interface user-friendly and its signature updates running in the background making the software less resource-hogging. NIS 2011 Was Better

I bought this because the 1 year sub was up on 2011 and I was able to get 2012 for cheaper than sub for another year for the 2011 version.Install was easy but I don't see much of a difference in what 2012 offers than what 2011 had. There are a few things I don't like about 2012:1. It scans my system a lot slower.2. No option to totally turn off autoupdate like you could in 2011. Can turn off auto but pulse updates turn on then and gets greyed out so there is no way to have them both be off at the same time. I like to update it manually liked I did 2011 but can't now.3. No way to turn off quick scans like you could in 2011.4. Seems to load slower at start up when set to "aggresive" but 2011 started right away.5. When you click on settings or any of the options the software takes longer to respond. At first I didn't think I had clicked right and tried again but it took a few seconds to respond. Quality Internet Security Suite for 2012

This version appears to build upon the 2011 version. A simplified user interface masks an upgraded version of the 2011 interface. The user can now select to either have the simpler interface appear when opening up the Norton product, allowing for easy access to launch scans or for checking on/running live updates or otherwise one can set the product to regularly open up to the more advanced interface, displaying a revival of CPU and Norton usage meters, along with a trust level meter displaying the amount of files currently trusted by Norton that are on the computer after a reputation scan has been executed and also in conjunction to what setting one has selected beforehand for computer scanning purposes. The product appears to function well, with no real noticable slowdown in performance from the previous version thus continuing on with Norton's lighter footprint design and improvements which were introduced with the 2009 versions of Nortons. Quick scans are now automatically... 5/5 Dan - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2012 - 1 User 3PC (Software) This version appears to build upon the 2011 version. online renew price high

The product seems good and I've been using Norton products for multiple years. Make sure to buy the new product each year for around 40-50 dollars. Make sure to set your account to No Automatic Renewal. The online renewal and automatic renewal sells the same package for around 80 dollars. When confronted with the price difference, customer support says it's important to buy direct online from Symantec to avoid the pirated versions, or versions that only have one good activation key left. I guess Amazon digital download doesn't meet their trustworthiness. 4/5 mark twain - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Everything you need to care for your PC

There protections of every kind you can think of and some they simply think of for you, with backup and optimize "defrag" and adjustments for every function. I would not want to run my PC without it. The only negative is they could make it cheaper, but when you take into account it installs on 3 PCs it weight out. everything you do is protected and backup can be turned off or set to any destination. It even can connect to the network if you want to get the latest protections before they officially come out for virtually any threat. Hey you spend good money on your PC so why not take care of it right and protect it with Norton 360 (6.0 3 PCs). I could go on annd on but really you need this more than you know, and a trusted name in Norton helps. 5/5 Robert St Arnault - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I have had Norton 360 on all my computers for a few years now and have always felt safe and secure. The other night the computer was acting WEIRD so i ran some scans but Norton picked up nothing.I then ran Malewarebytes Anti malware and it picked a TROJAN>AGENT infection. It said restart to remove but it was still there.I called norton premium support for $89 and they worked on my computer for about 8 hours over the course of a couple of days. They claimed virus was gone but the computer was still acting strange. They also REMOVED my malewarebytes program claiming a conflict between the two programs.I reloaded it and scanned and sure enough the virus was still there but this time it removed it but the damage was already done to the registry and i had to wipe everything clean cause system restore would not work. They speak very bad English and i think i wasted my money on the premium support{they are located in India].I will continue to use the Norton software because i still think it is... 3/5 john m - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton 360 v.6 1User/3PC [Download] (Software Download) I have had Norton 360 on all my computers for a few years now and have always felt safe and secure. Excellent program but.....

I have found the newer versions (2011-2012) of Norton Internet Security to be both highly effective at protecting my PC and absent of the cumbersome background programs that effected system performance. I am a fan and will continue to use it. The only change that is bad is that now when you add a new version it does not just add 365 days to whatever days you have remaining on your current protection so you just lose out on those days. That is not the way it has been in the past so wait until your current version is expiring to install the new code and activate it so you don't lose the last 50 days of your current protection like I did. 3/5 R. Much more reasonable through Amazon

I've always trusted and used Norton Internet Security programs on my computers. The last few years I just had Symantic load the new program automatically each year. But, this year when they told me my virus protection would be expiring in 30 days, and then informed me that they just wanted to let me know my credit card would automatically be charged the 59.99 to renew. I thought to myself that was awfully expensive especially being that this year had been hard on my family financially, so I started looking around. Lo and behold I found the same virus protection software through Amazon for less than half the price. Thanks Amazon you've done it again! 5/5 thomas l mcdermott - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Still the best

I have used Norton for years, in its various personas (anti-virus, Internet security, and 360). Generally I buy whatever is available for a good price on Black Friday. This year is was the Internet Security, but only for one computer. So I had to substitute the freebee, McAfee, on my second and third computers. I wish I had not. Should have just paid for the extra support. So for me, at least, Norton has always worked. I have never had a virus get through. The anti spam works, and my computers don't crash. McAfee, on the other hand, has not worked well and will be replaced. I highly recommend any Norton product, keeping in mind that smaller older computers should use the simplest product available (anti-virus), instead of the top product (360), so that the software doesn't make your computer lag much. 5/5 Victoria H. My Norton ghost 15 report card

Backups get A+:1. Backing up over network, high compression, custom drivers loading is easy to do. You will backup in style2. Superior and useful utilities.3. Every imaginable problem from the legendary Ghost 2003 is fixed and improved.4. No more .gho format anymore. The current format so far has handled some large partition backups for me. Full 30GB partitions to high compression is a breeze.Restores get C-:1. Right away after a partition recover, you will get the message "Please insert the Recovery disk". It will say "Error EA730002: Cannot find the driver database directory". How does this error stay in the product? It is one confusing message for a successful recovery. The recovery disk is really just the ghost CD.2. Then there is the staged recovery mystery. With 2 identical machines of the same hardware, I can only restore to the machine where I initially did the cold backups. I don't... 3/5 B. Wong - See all my reviews, December 4, 2009

    Unbootable Source Drive

I tried using "Copy My Hard Drive" to make a bootable Windows 7 disk clone and it rendered the source drive (C:) unbootable! I had to get out the installation DVD to "repair" my Windows 7 installation.I used to back up my XP drives this way using Ghost 12 and it worked smoothly for years. No backup program should modify anything on the source drive. There are several threads on the Symantec site about this and no one has a clue. Save your money if you plan on using the "Copy My Hard Drive" feature. 1/5 Chris (West Hollywood, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Symantec Norton Ghost 15.0 - Single User (Software) I tried using "Copy My Hard Drive" to make a bootable Windows 7 disk clone and it rendered the source drive (C:) unbootable! Ghost 15.0 has a fatal flaw.

Ghost 15.0 will not communicate with my Netwok Attached Storage hard drive from Iomega. Since the reason I bought it was to back my system up on the NAS drive, it is worthless. Norton Support Technicians have spent a great deal of time on my computer trying to make it work for over a month with no success. Finally they said "Sorry, but no refund". Every other application, includung Norton Security Suite work fine with my NAS drive so I believe that Ghost 15.0 has an inherent flaw in its communications routine which you will not discover until you have opened the package, thereby ruling out any refund. DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE! 1/5 Michael (Seattle) - See all my reviews This review is from: Symantec Norton Ghost 15.0 - Single User (Software) Ghost 15.0 will not communicate with my Netwok Attached Storage hard drive from Iomega. 4-star product, 1-star support, tricky and expensive upgrade

After running Norton 360 v4 for nearly a year across two Windows 7 PCs, I have been very satisfied with its performance and stability. I was looking forward to upgrading to v5, and extending my subscription.Functionally, Norton 360 v5 is very similar to v4 with a few additions:- improved SONAR protection (blocked 100% of virus/malware threats in Dennis Technology test)- updated Download Insight for even greater protection / scan of downloaded files- refined user interfaceFrom an effectiveness and performance perspective, I don't think you can get better than Norton 360 v5. It scans transparently in the background, with notification updates that show from the taskbar, without interrupting your work. Unlike other anti-virus software I'd used in the past, I didn't notice significant impact on my work when it's installed and running. When you download a file, the new Insight product will not only scan, but will let you know how many others have... 4/5 Paul Christensen "gadget geek" (West Chester, PA United States) - See all my reviews, March 26, 2011

    Simple, Speedy, and Stalwart Security

Norton 360 5.0 improves on version 4.0 by making it even faster, better looking, and taking up even less resources while retaining the same effectiveness. Installation is exceptionally fast and within a minute or two, Norton 360 is up and running. The interface could use some work, but overall, it is pretty nice. Important tasks are immediately in your face by hovering over four LARGE blocks. Scans are much faster than Microsoft Security Essentials, Panda, and McAfee. The add-ons are decent. Parental Controls are mediocre. It has a few nice tools that make online shopping easier and safer.Norton 360 contains many performance improvement tools such as Registry Cleanup, File Cleanup, and Disk Optimizer. Some are available by default in Windows though I have found Norton's to be more comprehensive and faster. Norton 360 is also very light on resources. It feels like it isn't even there! The only thing reminding you Norton is installed is the icon in the System Tray, which... 5/5 albertxp06 (California, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton 360 5.0 1-User/3PCs [Old Version] (Software) Norton 360 5.0 improves on version 4.0 by making it even faster, better looking, and taking up even less resources while retaining the same effectiveness. Norton 360 ends computer problems forever.

Does Norton 360 live up to the hype? For me it does. I bought my first version of Norton 360 3 years ago. I had been using Zone Alarm, Zone Alarm is freeware and donations are accepted but not mandatory. Zone Alarm did not cut it for me. I kept getting emails from them about all these wonderful premium versions that I could buy. They pestered and pestered. With Zone Alarm it seems that it totally took over my computer. Also, my computer was getting slower and slower and no matter what solution I would try, eventually, my computer would slow down again very soon.About three years ago, a friend mentioned Norton 360 to me and I had recalled that a lot of techies did not care for Norton products and they had gotten a pretty bad rap from the tech community. I decided to give 360 a try. I visited one of my local electronics big box stores and picked up a CD ROM version of Norton 360. At the time I had a desktop from HP and a laptop from Toshiba. The CD ROM allows you to protect... 5/5 John J. Barlow "Hifijohnny" (Lansing, Michigan) - See all my reviews, April 4, 2011

don't be mislead by the 3PC on the box

I love norton. I buy about 10 copies a year because I have a lot of computers. I was a bit mislead by this box, 1 user 3 pcs. I thought I could install it on 3 pcs in my home and it would run for a year on each pc. well, it does not. My antivirus protection on my computers expires at different times. I just realized that when you install on the 2nd and 3rd computer, it only allows you the time left on the first computer, which to me, should be clearly advertised on the box, which I could not see it anywhere. I would have bought the other option of it, where they send you 3 discs. I did not realize it was this way. 4/5 APRIL - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Sluggish Resource Hog

I had switched to Norton back in 2009 when they started getting positive reviews for keeping resource usage at a minimum. I haven't had any real complaints with it until this 2012 version. Ever since installing it my computer runs sluggish & found it was Norton (ccSvcHst.exe) eating up 88% of my CPU just idling, it wasn't even scanning! Norton is quick to report other applications with resource usage but doesn't report itself. I cannot in good conscious recommend this product until they fix this issue & go back to using minimum resources as they did in 2009-2011. 2/5 SmokeRingHalo "smokeringhalo" (St Louis, Mo) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) When you receive this software you will notice on the top right corner of the box it will say March 1, 2011 and then underneath that it will say version 5.0. Perhaps this is referencing the red rectangular box above it that reads in White Letters PC Mag.com Editors Choice. Regardless, this is misleading, since on the front of the box it says Norton 360 v6 and this is the packaging for v6 2012 release. On the side of the box it will say copyright 2012, and the owners manual in .pdf will say copyright 2011. However this is the most current version 6.01 and I verified this with Norton. If you are not accostomed to using bundled software like this, you will be in for a very high tech experience. Not to be discouraged, you learn as you go, with a 500+ Page Manual in .pdf on the dvd and a much shorter quick start guide. I have just received this, and I am learning. Windows XP Killer !!!!

I have used Norton for years and years but as soon as I upgraded to 360 Premium Edition my problems began. If you are runnig an older Operating System like Windows XP then downloading this product is the worst thing you can do. I immediately started having issues with error messages regarding missing DLLs from my long time (previously error free) programs like Corel Video Studio and even Microsoft Word. The problems expanded over the next few days and now my PC is unusable - although I can boot it up in Safe Mode so I can offload my important documents and spreadsheets. I had to buy a new HP Desktop (from Amazon - great price) but I am not going Norton 360. On a positive note I have to say that previous editions of Norton have saved me from numerous attacks and I am one of the few PCers among my colleagues who has never been hacked (thanks to Norton) but the combination of Windows XP and Norton 360 Version 6 Premier has been a real disaster for me. Don't be the next victim... 1/5 D. SIMON (New England) - See all my reviews, March 30, 2012

    Norton 360 v6.0

I've been using this product for three years now, buying the newest release annually. It has replaced BitDefender on my PC, which had allowed a virus in and was unable to remove, even with their customer support. The Norton has run quietly and unnoticed in the background; doing what it is supposed to do. I'd buy it again, and Amazon's price is much better than I've found anyplace else. 5/5 D.
