Norton Internet Security 2012 - 1 User 3PC
Software (Symantec)
List Price: $79.99
Less cluttered interface and fairly faster than 2011
Norton woke-up in 2009/10 making the interface user-friendly and its signature updates running in the background making the software less resource-hogging. It's continuing the same trend this year (NIS2012) with a little less cluttered interface - meaning most features automated for the novice user, but you have to dig in deep to make advanced changes. It works well with Windows7 as well as Win XP if you care (I don't have Vista - so cannot comment about that).1. Installation: As in the recent versions of NIS, installation was a snap. It took under 2 minutes, but needed a restart. If you have existing license for NIS, download the update from support -> check for new version menu item from within NIS. You can update the license number from the disk later when your license is about to expire. In previous version(s), NIS overwrote existing license period if you upgraded from disk. I havent checked it on this version (I still have about 90 days left, too risky!!)... 5/5 Gene Cloner (St Louis) - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2012 - 1 User 3PC (Software) Norton woke-up in 2009/10 making the interface user-friendly and its signature updates running in the background making the software less resource-hogging. I bought this because the 1 year sub was up on 2011 and I was able to get 2012 for cheaper than sub for another year for the 2011 version.Install was easy but I don't see much of a difference in what 2012 offers than what 2011 had. There are a few things I don't like about 2012:1. It scans my system a lot slower.2. No option to totally turn off autoupdate like you could in 2011. Can turn off auto but pulse updates turn on then and gets greyed out so there is no way to have them both be off at the same time. I like to update it manually liked I did 2011 but can't now.3. No way to turn off quick scans like you could in 2011.4. Seems to load slower at start up when set to "aggresive" but 2011 started right away.5. When you click on settings or any of the options the software takes longer to respond. At first I didn't think I had clicked right and tried again but it took a few seconds to respond. This version appears to build upon the 2011 version. A simplified user interface masks an upgraded version of the 2011 interface. The user can now select to either have the simpler interface appear when opening up the Norton product, allowing for easy access to launch scans or for checking on/running live updates or otherwise one can set the product to regularly open up to the more advanced interface, displaying a revival of CPU and Norton usage meters, along with a trust level meter displaying the amount of files currently trusted by Norton that are on the computer after a reputation scan has been executed and also in conjunction to what setting one has selected beforehand for computer scanning purposes. The product appears to function well, with no real noticable slowdown in performance from the previous version thus continuing on with Norton's lighter footprint design and improvements which were introduced with the 2009 versions of Nortons. Quick scans are now automatically... 5/5 Dan - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2012 - 1 User 3PC (Software) This version appears to build upon the 2011 version. Software (Symantec)

Excellent program but.....
I have found the newer versions (2011-2012) of Norton Internet Security to be both highly effective at protecting my PC and absent of the cumbersome background programs that effected system performance. I am a fan and will continue to use it. The only change that is bad is that now when you add a new version it does not just add 365 days to whatever days you have remaining on your current protection so you just lose out on those days. That is not the way it has been in the past so wait until your current version is expiring to install the new code and activate it so you don't lose the last 50 days of your current protection like I did. 3/5 R. I've always trusted and used Norton Internet Security programs on my computers. The last few years I just had Symantic load the new program automatically each year. But, this year when they told me my virus protection would be expiring in 30 days, and then informed me that they just wanted to let me know my credit card would automatically be charged the 59.99 to renew. I thought to myself that was awfully expensive especially being that this year had been hard on my family financially, so I started looking around. Lo and behold I found the same virus protection software through Amazon for less than half the price. Thanks Amazon you've done it again! 5/5 thomas l mcdermott - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I have used Norton for years, in its various personas (anti-virus, Internet security, and 360). Generally I buy whatever is available for a good price on Black Friday. This year is was the Internet Security, but only for one computer. So I had to substitute the freebee, McAfee, on my second and third computers. I wish I had not. Should have just paid for the extra support. So for me, at least, Norton has always worked. I have never had a virus get through. The anti spam works, and my computers don't crash. McAfee, on the other hand, has not worked well and will be replaced. I highly recommend any Norton product, keeping in mind that smaller older computers should use the simplest product available (anti-virus), instead of the top product (360), so that the software doesn't make your computer lag much. 5/5 Victoria H. Renewal Costs More Than New Software - Otherwise OK
I have been using the Norton security products for many years, and I have been for the most part very satisfied with them. The one gripe I have is that every year when I go to renew my subscription, I find that I can purchase new copies of the software for less than the renewal price. Although it is relatively easy to buy new copies of the software every year and avoid the exorbitant renewal costs, I feel like Symantec is trying to take advantage of me. I think loyal customers should be rewarded with renewal costs that are at or below readily available costs for the new software from reliable sources like Amazon. Instead, Symantec prefers to try to gouge its customers. For this software which is currently selling for $37.99 on Amazon, Symantec charges $59.99 for renewal. Shame on you Symantec! 3/5 Linus Linder - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2011 - 1 User/3 PC [Old Version] (Software) I have been using the Norton security products for many years, and I have been for the most part very satisfied with them. I have been using Norton Antivirus/Internet security for years now (on 3 PCs running XP) and the big turn around for the past few years with 'light' software has been great. Most times, issues have been due to non-removal of other/earlier versions of Norton software.Installation: The recent improvements in installation are continuing to be great. I was able to upgrade from NIS2010 to 2011 in under 2 minutes. If you still have license period left from your previous installation, choose to upgrade using Norton upgrade option (You'll get pop-up notice or check Support - Check new version/product update). If you upgrade using the disc, it will over-write your existing license period (doesn't make sense, but that is the case here). However, after internet upgrade, you can enter the license code from the disc to extend the license for another year (just before your license period expires). Well, after a few month of beta testing I guess it's time to give everybody my opinion. Since 2010 Norton became my favorite security suite for my PC, and this one is no exception. I tested it on 3 different PC running XP Pro, Vista H.P.32bit and Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. Once you get this software it will let you install on 3 different computers. Haven't tested 64bit version, but I'm pretty sure it should work the same. For those who already has a 2010 edition you won't see mush of the changes, it's more like refined version, which is a very good thing. For the interface it keeps the dark theme, with yellow text, but moves the large graphic security status indicator from the main interface window up to the task-bar and system tray icons. The UI is impressively easy to use. It's still very fast light on resources, with an extremely good protection. As for everybody else here's what to expect:Installation: Once you run the installer, the program is ready to operate in about a... 5/5 Vidis "Vidis" (MO USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2011 - 1 User/3 PC [Old Version] (Software) Well, after a few month of beta testing I guess it's time to give everybody my opinion. The UI is impressively easy to use. It's still very fast light on resources, with an extremely good protection. As for everybody else here's what to expect:Installation: Once you run the installer, the program is ready to operate in about a... Norton Internet Security 2012 - 5 Users

List Price: $109.99
Buyer Beware
I bought Norton Internet Security 2012 5 pc because of long standing disappointment with McAfee, and good performance reviews for Norton. Its performance is superior to any system I have used for years. However, it turns out that the 1 year license starts counting down after the first install on a PC. Subsequent installs on other systems decrease the license period by the time between the first install and subsequent installs. The Amazon site does not state this. With the aid of a magnifying glass, I found that the product box top says somewhat cryptically that the license is for one year starting with the first install. You apparently can't find this out until after purchase, which is a little late. I had not intended to install two systems until July. I will now just give up the McAfee licenses and install on all 5 machines. In my view the Norton license scheme is deceptive and fraudulant. If you are not prepared to install the product on 5 machines at the same time, you... 4/5 feeder - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This verison is a bit better than the last one, With more bells and wistles to help protect your computer. A couple of things to note are: this program WILL delete older programs in your computer and once you install on the first computer your year of service starts, regardless of when you install on other computers. This is not noted on the box. So far I'm satisfied with the protection. As for the shipping , it came before we were supose to get it by about 3 days. 5/5 Chrit55 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Forget this one. Norton needs to try again. First it loads slowly, secondly it blocks many programs, thirdly it challenges all search engine results, some of them it will "reject" if it doesn't pass Norton's test (what test?) then it corrupts your search engine results with a Norton tag that clutters the screeen. Someone at Norton must think that their customers want their computers to be an advertisement for Norton. Norton has done it again, almost perfect!
This is my fifth year of using NIS to protect my home computer and laptop. With the noticeable improvements last version, Norton came back with a bang. While NIS2010 still has some flaws, the good trend seems to continue this year as well.Installation: Installation was very quick similar to NIS2009. It does require a restart which seems to be the case for most virus protection software. Norton for some reason wants us to download and install parental control separately. just a hazel. If you are an existing NIS user you can upgrade from Norton's upgrade website before deciding to purchase the new version. The upgrade will retain your 2009 subscription and your license will be retained as well. NOTE: If you install from CD, your old license will be over written.Performance: I don't think NIS2010 is a resource hog. Norton also has performance meters where you can check how much of the system resources are being used by Norton. It seems NIS 2010 uses most system... 4/5 Gene Cloner (St Louis) - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2010 1-User 3PCs (CD-ROM) This is my fifth year of using NIS to protect my home computer and laptop. I was a little frustrated when the upgrade online via my current (well expired) Norton's was going to cost me more than it did last year (almost 60 bucks and it was only $49.99 last year) so I came here to see if I could save a little money and I did! I was a little afraid to download it at first because I saw that it might only work until Dec 2010, but I took the chance anyway because my subscription expired today. Well, after the successful download, I copied down the Product Key, I did the upgrade via the "renew now" tab on my current (expired) Norton's, and it gave me 366 days! Yes! And it was less than 40 bucks so I'm happy about that. I only did this review in case someone else is in the same situation I was in tonight - afraid to download it! :) It's all good. 5/5 Wifey Girl "Wifey Girl" (Durty South) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) While most of Symantec's competitors seem to be struggling with software "bloat", it's good to see one of the big guys heading back to more of a streamlined approach.I installed the software on two PCs so far...one a Vista Ultimate having no existing security software, and the other a Windows XP with McAffee's product. The installer suggested removing the McAffee product (which I did) and the installation was similarly uneventful on both of my systems from there on. It does force a reboot, and between the initial install plus downloading any updates, it took longer than I expected - about half an hour end to end.As for performance, there is a slight (but noticeable) increase in the reboot time when Norton starts up - perhaps an extra 30 seconds total. And if you're sensitive to performance, you can also tell when the product is updating virus signatures in the background, or performing one of its quick virus scans. The basic anti-virus protection... 3/5 Busy Executive (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews, October 6, 2009Gives you greater insight into downloaded applications....And files by telling you where they came from, if they can be trusted, and how they may impact your PC's resources and performanceProactively blocks hackers and prevents dangerous software from downloading to your computer when you surf the webGuarding your PC, network, and your identity without slowing you downNorton Internet Security 2010 delivers fast and light comprehensive online threat protection, -

After doing four or five weeks of research and trying kaspersky and bitdefender(which is a monster resource hog) norton outshined them. It's fast, in fact it's the fastest full virus scan I've experienced and resource light. It catches everything and doesn't allow anything to go unnoticed. I used to be a Norton fan in the past then after I discovered back four or five years ago that norton allowed many viruses into my computer, I moved on. Bitdefender was slow, but it was comprehensive. After getting tired of the slow updates and scan rates and false positives I decided to go hunting again and ended up back with Norton. About two weeks ago my daughters computer was attacked with somthing which tried to make her think her hard-drive was failing. It masked itself as a windows recovery program. It asked her to go on line to download a fix for the problem. Knowing you cannot fix a failing piece of hardware with software she suspected she had a virus. She contacted a Mcafee representative to see what could be done. They agreed it was a virus and had her run several scans. It found one infected file but did not find this virus and could not get rid of it. She wanted to know how come Mcafee did not stop this virus and could not fix it. She was told that they can't stop everything. She immediately cancelled her automatic renewal to Mcafee, and I ordered this for her. She did not use her computer until the Norton arrived. We then removed the Mcafee and installed Norton, and imediately scanned the computer. It found and removed three threats immediately. When it finished we tried using the desktop shortcuts... 5/5 Leland D. Valentine "Lee V." (Santee, SC) - See all my reviews, May 30, 2011Norton internet security 2011

Good product but beware expiration date
I'm happy with this product (10-user license) and would have given it five stars. But beware: we bought this to upgrade from the 2011 version (also 10-user). Thirty days before that expired, a series of obnoxious and intrusive popup reminders from Norton to "Renew Now" began appearing every day on our 10 PCs with last year's product.Deciding to get a jump on things, I installed the 2012 version over the 2011 version on oner PC (which still had 29 days left) and was very annoyed to see that the new 2012 version defaulted to 366 days until it expired, thereby cheating us out of 29 days remaining from last year. Norton is certainly smart enough to know what they're doing here (and I believe that last year's new install didn't cheat you and added the remaining days to the new 366, which seems only fair). So now I've stopped upgrading the other PCs and we have to endure 30 days of obnxious popups on 9 machines. Ironic that a Norton product would plague you with... 2/5 Ralph Paonessa (California USA) - See all my reviews, December 2, 2011I regret buying Norton Internet Security
I have been buying multiple licenses of Norton Internet Security for years, but this is the last. Because it has taken me a while to update all of my computers, I found out that when my previous subscription expired, the product totally disabled itself and insisted I purchase an upgrade. I thought that when my subscription expired, it would just stop giving me access to the live updates, but in fact it has disabled the smart firewall, scanning, logins, etc. -- every feature of the product is now dead, and it is insisting that I must purchase an upgrade or continue with NO PROTECTION.I feel this is totally unreasonable, and after many years as a loyal Symantec customer, I will not purchase another Symantec or Norton product. There are several other products that work just as well (and in fact sometimes clear viruses that Norton has missed) at no cost or less cost, and certainly less frustration. One product that I'd recommend in lieu of Norton is AVG... 2/5 Long Beach Native (Long Beach, California USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I already had Norton, which was about to expire so I downloaded this (though I was worried because of all the bad reviews). I thought it didn't work at first because it still said I had 1 day remaining. I tried uninstalling, and reinstalling Norton, but the old subscription was still active (for 1 more day). The product seems good and I've been using Norton products for multiple years. Make sure to buy the new product each year for around 40-50 dollars. Make sure to set your account to No Automatic Renewal. The online renewal and automatic renewal sells the same package for around 80 dollars. When confronted with the price difference, customer support says it's important to buy direct online from Symantec to avoid the pirated versions, or versions that only have one good activation key left.
