Renewal Costs More Than New Software - Otherwise OK
I have been using the Norton security products for many years, and I have been for the most part very satisfied with them. The one gripe I have is that every year when I go to renew my subscription, I find that I can purchase new copies of the software for less than the renewal price. Although it is relatively easy to buy new copies of the software every year and avoid the exorbitant renewal costs, I feel like Symantec is trying to take advantage of me. I think loyal customers should be rewarded with renewal costs that are at or below readily available costs for the new software from reliable sources like Amazon. Instead, Symantec prefers to try to gouge its customers. For this software which is currently selling for $37.99 on Amazon, Symantec charges $59.99 for renewal. Shame on you Symantec! 3/5 Linus Linder - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2011 - 1 User/3 PC [Old Version] (Software) I have been using the Norton security products for many years, and I have been for the most part very satisfied with them. I have been using Norton Antivirus/Internet security for years now (on 3 PCs running XP) and the big turn around for the past few years with 'light' software has been great. Most times, issues have been due to non-removal of other/earlier versions of Norton software.Installation: The recent improvements in installation are continuing to be great. I was able to upgrade from NIS2010 to 2011 in under 2 minutes. If you still have license period left from your previous installation, choose to upgrade using Norton upgrade option (You'll get pop-up notice or check Support - Check new version/product update). If you upgrade using the disc, it will over-write your existing license period (doesn't make sense, but that is the case here). However, after internet upgrade, you can enter the license code from the disc to extend the license for another year (just before your license period expires). During installation, you may notice wireless connection disconnecting a couple of times,... 4/5 Gene Cloner (St Louis) - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2011 - 1 User/3 PC [Old Version] (Software) I have been using Norton Antivirus/Internet security for years now (on 3 PCs running XP) and the big turn around for the past few years with 'light' software has been great. Well, after a few month of beta testing I guess it's time to give everybody my opinion. Since 2010 Norton became my favorite security suite for my PC, and this one is no exception. I tested it on 3 different PC running XP Pro, Vista H.P.32bit and Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. Once you get this software it will let you install on 3 different computers. Haven't tested 64bit version, but I'm pretty sure it should work the same. For those who already has a 2010 edition you won't see mush of the changes, it's more like refined version, which is a very good thing. For the interface it keeps the dark theme, with yellow text, but moves the large graphic security status indicator from the main interface window up to the task-bar and system tray icons. The UI is impressively easy to use. It's still very fast light on resources, with an extremely good protection. Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 - 3 Users
Software (Kaspersky Lab)
List Price: $79.95
Great protection from Kaspersky as usual.
Installation & First Impression:*****************************Installation of KIS 2012 was quite speedy. At the beginning of the installation process the program looked for any conflicting security programs that were already installed and to my surprise, it actually found remnants of Microsoft Security Essentials that I had previously uninstalled. After this was cleared up, it was a simple case of activating the product online and viola!, I was up and running. Albeit needing a definition update.Once KIS was up and running I downloaded the latest update, which took quite a while, and then gave it a quick scan. As this is the first 2012 malware product I've looked at thus far, it is difficult to be objective as to how Kaspersky's latest will compare with others that are released in the latter part of the year, but my initial impression is quite positive. KIS 2012 is jam-packed full of all the features that you would expect to see in such a program and definitely... 5/5 Method2Madness "Alex" (Hampton Roads, VA) - See all my reviews, September 26, 2011Super slow full scan takes the sparkle off an otherwise great product
I received Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 from the Amazon Vine Reviewer Program. Because I received the 3-license version I installed it on two PC's: desktop running Vista 32-bit and a desktop running Windows 7 64-bit.I had planned on also installing it on an XP desktop as this software gives you one code to license 3 machines for 1 year, however that is being old and fussy upon this writing and may need to die a natural death, thus I may have to install Kaspersky on yet another Win 7 machine instead. I will update this review after the third install.**Note that this software works with 32 and 64-bit Windows OS's Vista, XP and 7, but doesn't support Mac.**The Positives:Installation on both machines was easy, but much quicker on the Windows 7 machine. Probably more about the OS than this software. On both the Vista and Win 7 PC's the system moved quicker than with other antivirus' used before - Trend Micro on one and Kaspersky Pure on the... 3/5 Andrea L. Less cluttered interface and fairly faster than 2011
Norton woke-up in 2009/10 making the interface user-friendly and its signature updates running in the background making the software less resource-hogging. It's continuing the same trend this year (NIS2012) with a little less cluttered interface - meaning most features automated for the novice user, but you have to dig in deep to make advanced changes. It works well with Windows7 as well as Win XP if you care (I don't have Vista - so cannot comment about that).1. Installation: As in the recent versions of NIS, installation was a snap. It took under 2 minutes, but needed a restart. If you have existing license for NIS, download the update from support -> check for new version menu item from within NIS. You can update the license number from the disk later when your license is about to expire. In previous version(s), NIS overwrote existing license period if you upgraded from disk. I havent checked it on this version (I still have about 90 days left, too risky!!)... 5/5 Gene Cloner (St Louis) - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2012 - 1 User 3PC (Software) Norton woke-up in 2009/10 making the interface user-friendly and its signature updates running in the background making the software less resource-hogging. I bought this because the 1 year sub was up on 2011 and I was able to get 2012 for cheaper than sub for another year for the 2011 version.Install was easy but I don't see much of a difference in what 2012 offers than what 2011 had. There are a few things I don't like about 2012:1. It scans my system a lot slower.2. No option to totally turn off autoupdate like you could in 2011. Can turn off auto but pulse updates turn on then and gets greyed out so there is no way to have them both be off at the same time. I like to update it manually liked I did 2011 but can't now.3. No way to turn off quick scans like you could in 2011.4. Seems to load slower at start up when set to "aggresive" but 2011 started right away.5. When you click on settings or any of the options the software takes longer to respond. At first I didn't think I had clicked right and tried again but it took a few seconds to respond. This version appears to build upon the 2011 version. A simplified user interface masks an upgraded version of the 2011 interface. The user can now select to either have the simpler interface appear when opening up the Norton product, allowing for easy access to launch scans or for checking on/running live updates or otherwise one can set the product to regularly open up to the more advanced interface, displaying a revival of CPU and Norton usage meters, along with a trust level meter displaying the amount of files currently trusted by Norton that are on the computer after a reputation scan has been executed and also in conjunction to what setting one has selected beforehand for computer scanning purposes. The product appears to function well, with no real noticable slowdown in performance from the previous version thus continuing on with Norton's lighter footprint design and improvements which were introduced with the 2009 versions of Nortons. Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 - 3 Users

Great AV Product
Antivirus can be a controversial subject. If you ask 20 different computer entusiasts or IT professionals what the best AV product is, you will not only get 20 different answers, but almost as many angry shouts about how horrible everybody else's picks were. Similarly, and only to make matters worse, if you do your research and read the "10 best antivirus products of 2011" articles then you will see that the rankings change all the time. Every year it seems some "who-the-heck-is-that" antivirus product makes it on to the number 1 or 2 spot for the major roundups. More frustrating is the fact that from site to site and review to review, the conclusions can be schizophrenic--with one site's number 1 pick being the other site's worst of the crop. From my own experience, I will tell you that no antivirus is a silver bullet, they all will catch some malware that others miss, and vice versa. Beware of fanboys and beware too of haters. But most of all, beware of anyone who gives you their... 5/5 Leo "Katphish" (Norwich, NY, United States) - See all my reviews, September 19, 2011Solid antivirus protection
I have this software installed on a desktop and a laptop with Windows XP. It's been running for a few days now and it is performing well. It was easy to configure and does what I expect from an anitvirus program. It updates automatically, scans files and email and monitors incoming web traffic for dangerous scripts. It doesn't slow down my system or nag me with pop-ups. Once it's configured it disappears into the background. To be clear, any program that's running in the background is going to use some memory. This software has a small footprint in comparison to others and no slow down was experienced.Prior to installation I removed the antivirus software I was currently running as recommended in the quick start instruction guide. After removal I put the Kaspersky DVD in the computer and it popped up a user friendly interface and I began the installation. The first thing I did after installation was complete was to click on the 'Update' button which downloaded... 4/5 Leslie (Midwestern USA) - See all my reviews, September 21, 2011Tech Support Scam
I have had Kaspersky Internet Security for two years. The program is great, but I encountered a problem with installation. When I tried to find the technical support number for the product, it was no where to be found on my invoice. I then went out on the internet to try and find technical support for Kaspersky product installation. However I encountered a bogus support line, that was trying to sell me additional products without helping me with my installation problem. If Kaspersky would put a tech support number on the internet invoice I received after purchasing the new 2012 edition of Internet Security, I would have been able to solve my problem without encountering a bogus site online. 3/5 Michael J. Great Value
I have been using Norton to protect my computers since the 80's. Since I am a long time repeat customer, that says it all. I have tried others that worked well, but found that Norton was the least intrusive. Going about it's business in the back ground and leaving me alone. I really like the ability to turn off Norton anti-virus from the task bar when I'm installing new software, instead of burrowing down thru clicks and clicks to turn it off on it's home page. Buying this combo saves me time, effort and money. I only have to watch for one date of renewal on my computers. I used to write on my disks which one went to which computer. No longer - one disk for all! Do you own more than one computer and have been buying the single version for each one? Then you already are aware of the great value of this combo. 5/5 L. Burks (Anniston, Al USA) - See all my reviews, November 2, 2010Excellent Antivirus
Throughout the years I have used several programs to protect home computers from the usual threats of surfing the web; although no Antivirus is bullet proof against every possible virus or hacker, not having an up to date antivirus is welcoming trouble. This new version compares to similar entries of other vendors, and most of the basic features are shared in all the programs. Once installed and configured, Norton Antivirus 2011 will be an automated application, downloading updates, running background scans and showing alerts of downloaded files or informing about Trojans in files that you want to execute. 5/5 Sergio Oses Puchkov (CR) - See all my reviews, December 12, 2010The BEST!
I've been using AVG since 2006 and I always end up sending junk emails through my Yahoo account. I installed AVG + Spybot Destroy & Search and nothing has been detected until I decided to have a go at Norton. I remember I used Norton Anti-virus a long time ago but it was so CPU intensive that I went through AVG. When I first installed it detected a major Trojan Horse and lots of suspicious cookies. I've never had any problem at all on my PC and I've never sent any junk mail at all. It's absolutely recommended to anyone wanting a reliable anti-virus and it's not CPU intensive anymore, that's why I give it five stars! 5/5 Rodrigo Albuquerque - See all my reviews, November 7, 2010Know when applications are slowing down your PC, so you can make changes to improve performanceStay safe with up-to-minute protection that won?t slow down your PCStop viruses and other threats before they can do damageNorton AntiVirus 2011 offers fast, powerful protection that safeguards against viruses and spywareDetect and eliminate spyware cybercriminals can use to steal your personal information -

Great Product But Too Many Problems
After using Norton for years and getting totally frustrated with their horrible service and an atrocious product called Norton 360 [early version], I switched to Kaspersky about 3 years ago. That was a smart move because Kaspersky has better customer service and a SUPERIOR product. Let me start by saying Kaspersky is the best consumer product for protection of your computer, however, they have significant problems every time they upgrade to a new version. Even worse, management refuses to communicate with their customers about those problems. One of the pluses of buying this product is the following. If a new version comes out during your one year cycle, you can upgrade to the new product for FREE. The downside, with both the 2010 and 2011 upgrades, many customers [not all] had major problems. With the 2010 upgrade, I was one of many whose system slowed to a crawl for weeks until they finally fixed the problem. Management failed to send out an email advising customers there... 3/5 R. Kaspersky replaced McAfee on my computer, low resource utilization and no problems. Easy installation. Not only can I use my computer at any time, I can also print on my wireless connected printer. McAfee decided that since I did not have their product installed on the "computer" on my home network I could not use it. To print I had to disable the firewall. Kaspersky correctly identifies the device as a printer and have no problems using all of the features of my all-in-one.The installation was flawless and fast, even though there was a new version available and the download was large.Full system scan runs very quietly on the background and I don't even notice it is doing anything, I had to open the window to see if it was still doing it or it was completed. It also ran in half the time of what McAfee used to take, and you do notice McAfee when it is running.Another advantage is that it has not used up another license because I am running... 5/5 Gustavo Orellana - See all my reviews, September 20, 2010Safe Desktop allows you to safely open any suspicious application, file, email or web siteEnhanced parental controls to limit or log activities and communicationsSmall footprint, tiny updates and intelligent scanning lets your machine perform to the maxKaspersky Internet Security 2011 delivers essential anti-virus protection with advanced features such as a best-in-class firewall, anti-spam, and moreHourly signature updates, best-in-class unknown threat protection, and application alerts give you complete confidence -

Norton Internet Security 2011 & Norton Utilities Bundle (For Up To 3 Pcs)
Software (Symantec)
List Price: $79.99
Best bundle on the internet
I wanted to buy a copy of Norton Utilities because it is the best program out there for optimizing your computer. I found it bundled with Norton Internet security 2011. I didn't really want the antivirus because of previous experience with the load that previous versions of Norton Systems Tools put on my CPU running everything under the sun to keep me safe. I was pleased to find that this bundle doesn't bog down my system at all. Instead, Norton Utilities allowed me to shut down unused services and optimize the performance so that it is faster than ever. Norton Internet security has warned me away from known malware sites I clicked on links to, and thwarted more than one attack on my computer. I use Norton Ghost in the event hackers get ahead of the curve. It is cheap insurance and has saved hours rebuilding a drive from scratch. 5/5 Get a Clue - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) i installed this product on my PC after my Verizon FiOS McAfee program allowed my Internet connection to be compromised. I have since deleted the McAfee and no longer pay Verizon $5.99/month. So far and after 2 months, there have been no problems. Buying this from Amazon saves nearly half the "street" price. 5/5 Arthur A. Norton has done it again, almost perfect!
This is my fifth year of using NIS to protect my home computer and laptop. With the noticeable improvements last version, Norton came back with a bang. While NIS2010 still has some flaws, the good trend seems to continue this year as well.Installation: Installation was very quick similar to NIS2009. It does require a restart which seems to be the case for most virus protection software. Norton for some reason wants us to download and install parental control separately. just a hazel. If you are an existing NIS user you can upgrade from Norton's upgrade website before deciding to purchase the new version. The upgrade will retain your 2009 subscription and your license will be retained as well. NOTE: If you install from CD, your old license will be over written.Performance: I don't think NIS2010 is a resource hog. Norton also has performance meters where you can check how much of the system resources are being used by Norton. It seems NIS 2010 uses most system... 4/5 Gene Cloner (St Louis) - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2010 1-User 3PCs (CD-ROM) This is my fifth year of using NIS to protect my home computer and laptop. I was a little frustrated when the upgrade online via my current (well expired) Norton's was going to cost me more than it did last year (almost 60 bucks and it was only $49.99 last year) so I came here to see if I could save a little money and I did! I was a little afraid to download it at first because I saw that it might only work until Dec 2010, but I took the chance anyway because my subscription expired today. Well, after the successful download, I copied down the Product Key, I did the upgrade via the "renew now" tab on my current (expired) Norton's, and it gave me 366 days! Yes! And it was less than 40 bucks so I'm happy about that. I only did this review in case someone else is in the same situation I was in tonight - afraid to download it! :) It's all good. 5/5 Wifey Girl "Wifey Girl" (Durty South) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) While most of Symantec's competitors seem to be struggling with software "bloat", it's good to see one of the big guys heading back to more of a streamlined approach.I installed the software on two PCs so far...one a Vista Ultimate having no existing security software, and the other a Windows XP with McAffee's product. The installer suggested removing the McAffee product (which I did) and the installation was similarly uneventful on both of my systems from there on. It does force a reboot, and between the initial install plus downloading any updates, it took longer than I expected - about half an hour end to end.As for performance, there is a slight (but noticeable) increase in the reboot time when Norton starts up - perhaps an extra 30 seconds total. And if you're sensitive to performance, you can also tell when the product is updating virus signatures in the background, or performing one of its quick virus scans. The basic anti-virus protection... 3/5 Busy Executive (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews, October 6, 2009Proactively blocks hackers and prevents dangerous software from downloading to your computer when you surf the webGuarding your PC, network, and your identity without slowing you downNorton Internet Security 2010 delivers fast and light comprehensive online threat protection,Gives you greater insight into downloaded applications....And files by telling you where they came from, if they can be trusted, and how they may impact your PC's resources and performance -

Symantec Norton Ghost 15.0 - Single User
Software (Symantec)
List Price: $69.99
My Norton ghost 15 report card
Backups get A+:1. Backing up over network, high compression, custom drivers loading is easy to do. You will backup in style2. Superior and useful utilities.3. Every imaginable problem from the legendary Ghost 2003 is fixed and improved.4. No more .gho format anymore. The current format so far has handled some large partition backups for me. Full 30GB partitions to high compression is a breeze.Restores get C-:1. Right away after a partition recover, you will get the message "Please insert the Recovery disk". It will say "Error EA730002: Cannot find the driver database directory". How does this error stay in the product? It is one confusing message for a successful recovery. The recovery disk is really just the ghost CD.2. Then there is the staged recovery mystery. With 2 identical machines of the same hardware, I can only restore to the machine where I initially did the cold backups. I don't... 3/5 B. Ghost 15.0 will not communicate with my Netwok Attached Storage hard drive from Iomega. Since the reason I bought it was to back my system up on the NAS drive, it is worthless. Norton Support Technicians have spent a great deal of time on my computer trying to make it work for over a month with no success. Finally they said "Sorry, but no refund". Every other application, includung Norton Security Suite work fine with my NAS drive so I believe that Ghost 15.0 has an inherent flaw in its communications routine which you will not discover until you have opened the package, thereby ruling out any refund.
