Norton Internet Security 2010 1-User 3PCs

Norton has done it again, almost perfect!
This is my fifth year of using NIS to protect my home computer and laptop. With the noticeable improvements last version, Norton came back with a bang. While NIS2010 still has some flaws, the good trend seems to continue this year as well.Installation: Installation was very quick similar to NIS2009. It does require a restart which seems to be the case for most virus protection software. Norton for some reason wants us to download and install parental control separately. just a hazel. If you are an existing NIS user you can upgrade from Norton's upgrade website before deciding to purchase the new version. The upgrade will retain your 2009 subscription and your license will be retained as well. NOTE: If you install from CD, your old license will be over written.Performance: I don't think NIS2010 is a resource hog. Norton also has performance meters where you can check how much of the system resources are being used by Norton. It seems NIS 2010 uses most system... 4/5 Gene Cloner (St Louis) - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2010 1-User 3PCs (CD-ROM) This is my fifth year of using NIS to protect my home computer and laptop. I was a little frustrated when the upgrade online via my current (well expired) Norton's was going to cost me more than it did last year (almost 60 bucks and it was only $49.99 last year) so I came here to see if I could save a little money and I did! I was a little afraid to download it at first because I saw that it might only work until Dec 2010, but I took the chance anyway because my subscription expired today. Well, after the successful download, I copied down the Product Key, I did the upgrade via the "renew now" tab on my current (expired) Norton's, and it gave me 366 days! Yes! And it was less than 40 bucks so I'm happy about that. I only did this review in case someone else is in the same situation I was in tonight - afraid to download it! :) It's all good. 5/5 Wifey Girl "Wifey Girl" (Durty South) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) While most of Symantec's competitors seem to be struggling with software "bloat", it's good to see one of the big guys heading back to more of a streamlined approach.I installed the software on two PCs so far...one a Vista Ultimate having no existing security software, and the other a Windows XP with McAffee's product. The installer suggested removing the McAffee product (which I did) and the installation was similarly uneventful on both of my systems from there on. It does force a reboot, and between the initial install plus downloading any updates, it took longer than I expected - about half an hour end to end.As for performance, there is a slight (but noticeable) increase in the reboot time when Norton starts up - perhaps an extra 30 seconds total. And if you're sensitive to performance, you can also tell when the product is updating virus signatures in the background, or performing one of its quick virus scans. The basic anti-virus protection... 3/5 Busy Executive (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews, October 6, 2009Gives you greater insight into downloaded applications..Proactively blocks hackers and prevents dangerous software from downloading to your computer when you surf the web..And files by telling you where they came from, if they can be trusted, and how they may impact your PC's resources and performanceNorton Internet Security 2010 delivers fast and light comprehensive online threat protection,Guarding your PC, network, and your identity without slowing you down -

Renewal Costs More Than New Software - Otherwise OK
I have been using the Norton security products for many years, and I have been for the most part very satisfied with them. The one gripe I have is that every year when I go to renew my subscription, I find that I can purchase new copies of the software for less than the renewal price. Although it is relatively easy to buy new copies of the software every year and avoid the exorbitant renewal costs, I feel like Symantec is trying to take advantage of me. I think loyal customers should be rewarded with renewal costs that are at or below readily available costs for the new software from reliable sources like Amazon. Instead, Symantec prefers to try to gouge its customers. For this software which is currently selling for $37.99 on Amazon, Symantec charges $59.99 for renewal. Shame on you Symantec! 3/5 Linus Linder - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2011 - 1 User/3 PC [Old Version] (Software) I have been using the Norton security products for many years, and I have been for the most part very satisfied with them. I have been using Norton Antivirus/Internet security for years now (on 3 PCs running XP) and the big turn around for the past few years with 'light' software has been great. Most times, issues have been due to non-removal of other/earlier versions of Norton software.Installation: The recent improvements in installation are continuing to be great. I was able to upgrade from NIS2010 to 2011 in under 2 minutes. If you still have license period left from your previous installation, choose to upgrade using Norton upgrade option (You'll get pop-up notice or check Support - Check new version/product update). If you upgrade using the disc, it will over-write your existing license period (doesn't make sense, but that is the case here). However, after internet upgrade, you can enter the license code from the disc to extend the license for another year (just before your license period expires). Well, after a few month of beta testing I guess it's time to give everybody my opinion. Since 2010 Norton became my favorite security suite for my PC, and this one is no exception. I tested it on 3 different PC running XP Pro, Vista H.P.32bit and Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. Once you get this software it will let you install on 3 different computers. Haven't tested 64bit version, but I'm pretty sure it should work the same. For those who already has a 2010 edition you won't see mush of the changes, it's more like refined version, which is a very good thing. For the interface it keeps the dark theme, with yellow text, but moves the large graphic security status indicator from the main interface window up to the task-bar and system tray icons. The UI is impressively easy to use. It's still very fast light on resources, with an extremely good protection. Norton Never Admit to Problems
This product will not work with some software. If you use Freelance Graphics (Lotus) and have "hyper-links" in your presentation, it will freeze up while "updating links". They can not even fix it by removing the product and they claim that there are no problems (somewhere in India). This happened with a previous product of theirs as well. If you installed their worm protection, it locked ZoneAlarm pro up. It could not be removed! That time they admited it and that is how I was able to figure out the problem with NIS 2010.Great Security, if you have time to personally work out the bugs.(Their Client Firewall does work with Freelance Graphics.) 1/5 Richard I. I bought my first computer in 1987, and I consider myself an advanced novice. I bought Norton Internet Security 2010 based upon the reviews by Consumers Union and several computer magazines. No product is perfect, but this edition of Norton software does the job at a fair price. I would like them to develop the ability to block tracking cookies, or at least immediately remove them after creation. Perhaps that could be in a future edition. 5/5 James J. Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 - 3 Users
Software (Kaspersky Lab)
List Price: $79.95
Great protection from Kaspersky as usual.
Installation & First Impression:*****************************Installation of KIS 2012 was quite speedy. At the beginning of the installation process the program looked for any conflicting security programs that were already installed and to my surprise, it actually found remnants of Microsoft Security Essentials that I had previously uninstalled. After this was cleared up, it was a simple case of activating the product online and viola!, I was up and running. Albeit needing a definition update.Once KIS was up and running I downloaded the latest update, which took quite a while, and then gave it a quick scan. As this is the first 2012 malware product I've looked at thus far, it is difficult to be objective as to how Kaspersky's latest will compare with others that are released in the latter part of the year, but my initial impression is quite positive. KIS 2012 is jam-packed full of all the features that you would expect to see in such a program and definitely... 5/5 Method2Madness "Alex" (Hampton Roads, VA) - See all my reviews, September 26, 2011Super slow full scan takes the sparkle off an otherwise great product
I received Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 from the Amazon Vine Reviewer Program. Because I received the 3-license version I installed it on two PC's: desktop running Vista 32-bit and a desktop running Windows 7 64-bit.I had planned on also installing it on an XP desktop as this software gives you one code to license 3 machines for 1 year, however that is being old and fussy upon this writing and may need to die a natural death, thus I may have to install Kaspersky on yet another Win 7 machine instead. I will update this review after the third install.**Note that this software works with 32 and 64-bit Windows OS's Vista, XP and 7, but doesn't support Mac.**The Positives:Installation on both machines was easy, but much quicker on the Windows 7 machine. Probably more about the OS than this software. On both the Vista and Win 7 PC's the system moved quicker than with other antivirus' used before - Trend Micro on one and Kaspersky Pure on the... 3/5 Andrea L. Norton is back
Back in the 80's and 90's, Peter Norton was known for stellar DOS & Windows utilities along with the best Anti-Virus program available for the PC. If you needed to recover precious data from a failing hard drive (or an accidental format), get rid of a nasty virus brought home from school by your child, speed up your 20 Meg hard drive or simply work with the massive amount of data on your PC, Norton usually had something that would help. Then, sometime around the turn of the century, Norton/Symantec changed. Their programs became harder to work with, contained numerous bugs, ran ever so slowly and effectively took over your computer (can't help thinking that Microsoft had something to do with this). Whenever your PC had problems, Norton Software was usually the cause instead of the cure. Programs that ran like lightning before Norton Anti-Virus was installed, ran like molasses in the wintertime after Norton was installed. The thinking went from, "How can Norton help me?" to "How do I... 5/5 Jack Cambest "Computer God" (Pittsburgh, PA, USA) - See all my reviews, February 22, 2010Finally Norton Is Back!
I used Norton SystemWorks and antivirus software for a long time. In the last couple of years I nearly gave up on Norton. The Norton 360 was awful - way too intrusive and slow!Norton Utilities is a different package of features than the old SystemWorks, but it has all the essential elements. It fixes registry errors, cleans up the trash on your disk, and optimizes Windows registry. I miss the old "one button" cleanup step. But, this does everything that is needed and is reasonably easy to use. This version of Norton antivirus/Internet security has the essentials - virus, Trojans, spyware, and is a password protection program. It doesn't seem to slow the machine too much and it isn't overly intrusive. After the turkey "Norton 360" and the abandonment of "SystemWorks" Symantec finally got it right again.I run windows 7 on two machines and have this on both. 4/5 C. White "Chazzz" (San Diego CA) - See all my reviews, April 17, 2010Nice price, good product...
Everything works great. I gave 4 stars because I had a pretty hard ime installing Norton Utilities on my Windows 7 computer. The antivirus software no problem whatsoever quick easy install and integration with Windows 7, but the Utilities much different story, almost seemed at first like it was incompatable with Win 7 but then after alot of tweeking everything works fine. Definately recomend the Norton Internet Security, its easy and works flawlessly with Windows 7. But sorry to say I cant recomend the Utilities part of the package, very difficult install, time consuming and unless you are pretty computer savy not worth it. 4/5 Florence Scarano (Philadelphia) - See all my reviews, April 2, 2010 -

What is there to say, I have found that buying a new version of Norton from Amazon each year is less expensive than buying a "subscription" upgrade from Symantec itself for some reason. While it is a bit of a "pain" to have to use the Norton Removal Tool before installing the new version, I like doing it since I end up with all the newest definitions, functions, and actaully save money doing it.I had some trouble last year when the 2009 version also negated access to my MP3 player driver somehow, and I had a heck of a time getting everything working again. This year's version, no problem. Still Norton, still great virus protection, and an even better SONAR attack identifier included in the system.Clint Wigen. 5/5 Clinton C. I'm giving all Norton 2009 and 2010 antivirus products a 1-star because of their "software-as-rental" policies.I thought the 1 year subscription period meant that automatic updates would no longer be provided, but that otherwise the product would continue to work OK.Wrong.The software stops working and disables itself, unless you pay the yearly renewal fees, which are much higher than so-called "buying" the next year's version.Imagine if Windows stopped working, unless you kept paying yearly fees to Microsoft, forever. 1/5 Kirth Gersen (USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Antivirus 2010 1-User [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM) I'm giving all Norton 2009 and 2010 antivirus products a 1-star because of their "software-as-rental" policies.I thought the 1 year subscription period meant that automatic updates would no longer be provided, but that otherwise the product would continue to work OK.Wrong.The software stops working and disables itself, unless you pay the yearly renewal fees, which are much higher than so-called "buying" the next year's version.Imagine if Windows stopped working, unless you kept paying yearly fees to Microsoft, forever. My new netbook came with a trial subscription of Mcaffee already on it. It seemed like every 10 minutes it was reminding you it was going to run out and prodding you to fork over big bucks to continue the protection. My neighbors son installs all the computer systems for the public schools here and he recommended Norton instead. I'm glad I took his advice as Norton doesn't slow down my little netbook like the Mcaffee did, it also cost less than half as much. Once I decided to go with Norton I started shopping and found Amazon was the cheapest. The download was super easy and everything worked out great. I've used Norton for 9 years and at the end of each year I buy the next version (when "I" get the time). Their policy has always been that your anti virus still functions but the latest updates are not given unless your paid subscription is up to date. This is fair and fine. What is piss poor customer treatment is now the minute your subscription expires your anti virus is turned off leaving you exposed on the internet! I won't be held hostage again I switched to Vipre and its even better(check out all the 5 star reviews). I won't have something I paid for taken away until I pay them a fresh ransom! I have purchased Norton/Symantec Antivirus products for the last seven years, but only recently have tried to use the customer service. Folks, do NOT buy any product from Norton/Symantec if you ever want customer service or any technical support whatsoever.THEIR TECH SUPPORT IS INCREDIBLY POOR!!!My son's laptop recently contracted a virus/trojan. We contacted customer service for assistance because the virus scan was not picking up the virus and the virus was preventing updates from being loaded.AFTER ONE HOUR ON HOLD for a tech, we were told we would have to pay for tech support -- $99.99.then Symantec charged my account twice for the $99.99.Then I was placed on hold for over one hour with no response -- I finally hung up.Then they tried the better part of a Saturday night and Sunday morning to remove the virus. Four or five different people tried and each person repeated the same futile steps the previous... 1/5 Hampster (Northampton, MA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Antivirus 2010 1-User/3PC [Old Version] (CD-ROM) I have purchased Norton/Symantec Antivirus products for the last seven years, but only recently have tried to use the customer service. Product disables itself unless you pay yearly renewal fees.I'm giving all Norton 2009 and 2010 antivirus products a 1-star because of their "software-as-rental" policies.I thought the 1 year subscription period meant that automatic updates would no longer be provided, but that otherwise the product would continue to work OK.Wrong.The software stops working and disables itself, unless you pay the yearly renewal fees, which are much higher than so-called "buying" the next year's version.Imagine if Windows stopped working, unless you kept paying yearly fees to Microsoft, forever. 1/5 Kirth Gersen (USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Antivirus 2010 1-User/3PC [Old Version] (CD-ROM) Product disables itself unless you pay yearly renewal fees.I'm giving all Norton 2009 and 2010 antivirus products a 1-star because of their "software-as-rental" policies.I thought the 1 year subscription period meant that automatic updates would no longer be provided, but that otherwise the product would continue to work OK.Wrong.The software stops working and disables itself, unless you pay the yearly renewal fees, which are much higher than so-called "buying" the next year's version.Imagine if Windows stopped working, unless you kept paying yearly fees to Microsoft, forever. I purchased the product from Amazon and it arrived very quicky. Product is as decribed. It is not a trial version. After install, it did say that I had a 3 day trial, however, the instructions that came with the software say that you must activate the product within 15 days of install. A product key is attached to the instructions. After I entered the key and activated the software, my subscription went from 3 days to 365 days. 5/5 Guacamole - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Antivirus 2011 - 1 User [Old Version] (Software) I purchased the product from Amazon and it arrived very quicky.
