About this book
"Going beyond the issues of analyzing and optimizing programs as well as creating the means of protecting information, this guide takes on the programming problem of, once having found holes in a program, how to go about disassembling it without its source code. Covered are the hacking methods used to analyze programs using a debugger and disassembler. These methods include virtual functions, local and global variables, branching, loops, objects and their hierarchy, and mathematical operators. Also covered are methods of fighting disassemblers, self-modifying code in operating systems, and executing code in the stack. Advanced disassembler topics such as optimizing compilers and movable code are discussed as well."

About this book
"A guide to optimizing programs on the PC and Unix platforms, this book covers the expediency of optimization and the methods to increase the speed of programs via optimization. Discussed are typical mistakes made by programmers that lessen the performance of the system along with easily implemented solutions. Detailed descriptions of the devices and mechanism of interaction of the computer components, effective ways of programming, and a technique for optimizing programs, are provided. Programmers will also learn how to effectively implement programming methods in a high-level language that is usually done in assembler with particular attention given to the RAM subsystem. The working principles of the RAM and the way in which it is coupled with the processor as well as a description of programming methods that allows programmers to overclock the memory to reach maximum performance are included."

Outstanding internet security without impacting your computer's performance

I was given the opportunity to evaluate Kaspersky PURE on computers where I had been running Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 and Norton Internet Security 2010. The two computers I used for the evaluation were a 6 year old laptop running Windows XP Professional with a 2 Ghz processor and 2 GB of RAM and a 2 year old netbook running Windows XP Professional with an Intel Atom 1.6 Ghz processor and 2 GB of RAM. Both computers have about 10 GB of free space on the hard drives. Neither of these computers has significant processing power or disc space by today's standards and so the use of a internet security package that provides excellent protection but does not bog down the system is a priority. I found that Kaspersky PURE excelled at this. When I first tried to install PURE, I received an alert that I needed to remove other Kaspersky programs prior to the installation of PURE. This required a reboot of my machine after Kaspersky Internet Security was removed. Otherwise,... 5/5 mhnstr (Christchurch, New Zealand) - See all my reviews, February 15, 2011

Norton gets stepped on with Kaspersky's little footprint.

It's like I have a brand new computer. Uninstalling Norton and AVG and Avast and McAfee and enough! Finally, someone gets it right and I actually feel secure. Plus there is the bonus that I can actually use my computer without lag.Once installed and updated, Pure is up and running smoothy with an appealing and user friendly program screen. Easy to setup with many preferences that can be changed, or just select the recommended settings for your system. It tells you what you should do based on the system you install on. I have installed on two systems, one older desktop PC running Windows XP, and a Christmas received HP notebook running Windows 7. Both running perfectly, and wow, did my desktop XP PC need Pure! It's so fast now. With automatic backup, scanning and live protection from viruses and spam, in no matter what form, it has your back. Most times you install security software not feeling 100% secure, and just assume it's doing it's job. But after... 5/5 M. Agostino "4for3.info" (New England) - See all my reviews, March 16, 2011

Great for homes with multiple windows machines but additional cost over KIS is hard to justify

So this is going to be a short review because I've already written a fairly long review of . Just for reference I pasted my original review below. What got me most excited about trying out Pure were the remote management features:Once you install Pure on multiple machines and they have the same admin password they can find each other on your network (I only tried via a single subnet) and you can easily view status, enable/disable parental controls, kick of scans and updates or backups and restores. I find this to be pretty cool. I mean I could use remote desktop but this is kind of a nice feature.A few other things have been added that are not in the KIS 2011 edition: Password Manager (limited to 32-bit browsers though), Automatic backup features, and a few other security features... 3/5 Paul "Paul" (SF Bay Area, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Kaspersky Pure 3-User (CD-ROM) Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) One Major Flaw that CANNOT be overlooked

I've been a customer of Kaspersky for a few years now. For the most part I've been satisfied with most of their products including Internet Security as well as PURE 1.0. Recently I decided to build a new system (Windows 7 64-Bit Professional) and got this version of PURE for protection. Everything went smoothly for the most part and nothing out of the ordinary happened during install and configuration. Overall after about a week of use this feels like an improved version of PURE to some extent:- Faster scans (critical, full, as well as custom)- Better support for sandbox usage (seems to run better for the most part)- Many of the features from PURE (PC Tune-Up as well as Vulnerability Scan) are there and work slightly faster- Includes a Network Monitor which is nice since you can see what's coming in and out- Doesn't have a major impact on performance So you're probably wondering then why I rated this product a two out of five stars... 2/5 Ryan - See all my reviews This review is from: Kaspersky Pure 2.0 - 3 Users (CD-ROM) I've been a customer of Kaspersky for a few years now. Not an acceptable product as of 16 May 2012

I upgraded to Pure 2 from an earlier version of Pure a few weeks ago. It is installed on my Win7 64-bit computer. The new version runs normally for a few hours or maybe as long as a couple of weeks and then throws a "License invalid" error and disables itself - leaving the computer completely unprotected. (Refer to the screenshots I added to the product images.) The only solution is to uninstall/reinstall the software. I have had the "license invalid" situation occur about eight times over 5 or 6 weeks. I am ditching this software and will revert to the earlier version for the remaining five months of my license period. The situation has been reported by several users on the official Kaspersky forum. It has been reported to occur on both Win7 and WinXP. Tech support has supposedly been working on the problem for quite some time but the problem still persists.Kaspersky Pure 2 is NOT an acceptable Security Suite at the time of this review. Great protection from Kaspersky as usual.

Installation & First Impression:*****************************Installation of KIS 2012 was quite speedy. At the beginning of the installation process the program looked for any conflicting security programs that were already installed and to my surprise, it actually found remnants of Microsoft Security Essentials that I had previously uninstalled. After this was cleared up, it was a simple case of activating the product online and viola!, I was up and running. Albeit needing a definition update.Once KIS was up and running I downloaded the latest update, which took quite a while, and then gave it a quick scan. As this is the first 2012 malware product I've looked at thus far, it is difficult to be objective as to how Kaspersky's latest will compare with others that are released in the latter part of the year, but my initial impression is quite positive. KIS 2012 is jam-packed full of all the features that you would expect to see in such a program and definitely... 5/5 Method2Madness "Alex" (Hampton Roads, VA) - See all my reviews, September 26, 2011

Super slow full scan takes the sparkle off an otherwise great product

I received Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 from the Amazon Vine Reviewer Program. Because I received the 3-license version I installed it on two PC's: desktop running Vista 32-bit and a desktop running Windows 7 64-bit.I had planned on also installing it on an XP desktop as this software gives you one code to license 3 machines for 1 year, however that is being old and fussy upon this writing and may need to die a natural death, thus I may have to install Kaspersky on yet another Win 7 machine instead. I will update this review after the third install.**Note that this software works with 32 and 64-bit Windows OS's Vista, XP and 7, but doesn't support Mac.**The Positives:Installation on both machines was easy, but much quicker on the Windows 7 machine. Probably more about the OS than this software. On both the Vista and Win 7 PC's the system moved quicker than with other antivirus' used before - Trend Micro on one and Kaspersky Pure on the... 3/5 Andrea L. Great AV Product

Antivirus can be a controversial subject. If you ask 20 different computer entusiasts or IT professionals what the best AV product is, you will not only get 20 different answers, but almost as many angry shouts about how horrible everybody else's picks were. Similarly, and only to make matters worse, if you do your research and read the "10 best antivirus products of 2011" articles then you will see that the rankings change all the time. Every year it seems some "who-the-heck-is-that" antivirus product makes it on to the number 1 or 2 spot for the major roundups. More frustrating is the fact that from site to site and review to review, the conclusions can be schizophrenic--with one site's number 1 pick being the other site's worst of the crop. From my own experience, I will tell you that no antivirus is a silver bullet, they all will catch some malware that others miss, and vice versa. Beware of fanboys and beware too of haters. But most of all, beware of anyone who gives you their... 5/5 Leo "Katphish" (Norwich, NY, United States) - See all my reviews, September 19, 2011

    Solid antivirus protection

I have this software installed on a desktop and a laptop with Windows XP. It's been running for a few days now and it is performing well. It was easy to configure and does what I expect from an anitvirus program. It updates automatically, scans files and email and monitors incoming web traffic for dangerous scripts. It doesn't slow down my system or nag me with pop-ups. Once it's configured it disappears into the background. To be clear, any program that's running in the background is going to use some memory. This software has a small footprint in comparison to others and no slow down was experienced.Prior to installation I removed the antivirus software I was currently running as recommended in the quick start instruction guide. After removal I put the Kaspersky DVD in the computer and it popped up a user friendly interface and I began the installation. The first thing I did after installation was complete was to click on the 'Update' button which downloaded... 4/5 Leslie (Midwestern USA) - See all my reviews, September 21, 2011

    Tech Support Scam

I have had Kaspersky Internet Security for two years. The program is great, but I encountered a problem with installation. When I tried to find the technical support number for the product, it was no where to be found on my invoice. I then went out on the internet to try and find technical support for Kaspersky product installation. However I encountered a bogus support line, that was trying to sell me additional products without helping me with my installation problem. If Kaspersky would put a tech support number on the internet invoice I received after purchasing the new 2012 edition of Internet Security, I would have been able to solve my problem without encountering a bogus site online. 3/5 Michael J. This is my 4th year renewing my Kaspersky Anti Virus. The first two years all they offered was the Anti Virus and it worked wonderful. Last year I got the PURE and it was great also. I have never had it tell me there were simple viruses and I had to upgrade to a more expensive package to get it off like other Anti Virus softwares I had. Kaspersky PURE has problems - KIS is better

I've been a Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) user for several years and never had a problem. The product worked, and a transition from my older Windows XP systems to 64-bit Windows 7 systems was largely seamless.I typically shop for security software all year long - when I see a good deal, I buy it, knowing that at some point, my annual subscription will require (expensive) renewal. So it was in June 2011 when I bought PURE on a big rebate special. It sat on my shelf for 5 months while my KIS-2011 subscription ran out, then I tried to install PURE, after doing a complete un-install of the expired KIS-2011 product. While PURE installed OK, updated, ran scans, and appeared to provide firewall protection, it was incompatible with MS Outlook (Office 2010 - 64 bit version). I could not start MS Outlook if PURE was running as Outlook would just hang indefinitely. If I exited PURE, Outlook ran fine. This problem is widely posted now on various forums, and it... 3/5 B. A. After using Norton for years and getting totally frustrated with their horrible service and an atrocious product called Norton 360 [early version], I switched to Kaspersky about 3 years ago. That was a smart move because Kaspersky has better customer service and a SUPERIOR product. If a new version comes out during your one year cycle, you can upgrade to the new product for FREE. The downside, with both the 2010 and 2011 upgrades, many customers [not all] had major problems. With the 2010 upgrade, I was one of many whose system slowed to a crawl for weeks until they finally fixed the problem. Management failed to send out an email advising customers there... Whether you own a powerful desktop or a modest mini-laptop, KIS 2011 is a worthy purchase for users of Windows 7 64-bit

*(PLEASE NOTE: This review is geared towards Windows 7 64-bit users with a fairly recent computer build, e.g. any dual core processor PC built over the past four years or less. PC users with ten-year-old Pentium 4/XP computing rigs should look elsewhere for advice; if possible, they should also consider upgrading and/or replacing their aging hardware and OS, as the cost/value ratio in the PC market has never, ever been better... even when one takes into consideration these hard economic times.)As was the case last year, after taking a month-long test run with the latest internet security suites (Avast, Norton, McAfee), I have come away very impressed with Kaspersky Internet Security. I own a 4-year-old Dell XPS 410 with an Intel Core 2 6700 CPU @ 2.66GHz, equipped with a "RAID 0" 2 TB dual hard drive, 8 GB DDR2 RAM and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB "Direct X 10"-compatible graphics card. I have been using KIS on this computer since 2007, back in the days when I had... 4/5 Hugo D. The best security package I have ever used.

Kaspersky replaced McAfee on my computer, low resource utilization and no problems. Easy installation. Not only can I use my computer at any time, I can also print on my wireless connected printer. McAfee decided that since I did not have their product installed on the "computer" on my home network I could not use it. To print I had to disable the firewall. Kaspersky correctly identifies the device as a printer and have no problems using all of the features of my all-in-one.The installation was flawless and fast, even though there was a new version available and the download was large.Full system scan runs very quietly on the background and I don't even notice it is doing anything, I had to open the window to see if it was still doing it or it was completed. It also ran in half the time of what McAfee used to take, and you do notice McAfee when it is running.Another advantage is that it has not used up another license because I am running... 5/5 Gustavo Orellana - See all my reviews, September 20, 2010

    Kaspersky Lab

Kaspersky the nr. 1 security provider for your p.c.

After tested many of the major brands plus some that are less known in the past decade, I've been a steady customer of Kaspersky Internet Security for many years now. I have to say that I haven't tested all of the related software available, but Kaspersky, certainly when you speak of the major brands, is without a doubt the best at internet security. Their virus scanner is the best in their class. I also praise them because of the many options by which you can configure your security and the tutorials and all other scans you do using this piece of software. I use a lot more protection since nothings is foolproof as many of use will know, but the company keeps on getting better each year, like the this year newly added feature of cloud protection.I really recommend this product to everybody.I haven't tried the spam training on any edition since I don't need it. 4/5 Sjoffer (Netherlands) - See all my reviews This review is from: Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 - 1 User (CD-ROM) After tested many of the major brands plus some that are less known in the past decade, I've been a steady customer of Kaspersky Internet Security for many years now. great upgrade

I have been a big fan of Kaspersky and this edition does not disappoint. The interface seems easier to use and the program seems to be faster. Updates are quick, great improvements and this protects the cloud if you use that service. 5/5 HemiX2 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) WICKEDLY EFFECTIVE! TRULY AWESOME AT REMOVING MALWARES!

I've always been very careful and cautious in browsing the internet. I always make sure all defensive measures are in place to prevent a virus attack. But you can never be too careful. Just recently, I was infected by a really annoying and persistent malware called Security Suite. It creeps in your pc using back door methods and displays itself as an anti-virus software that persistently appears on your deskstop and no amount of clicking close or manual removal will remove it. Once infected, it disables your configured settings, disables your LAN settings--you wont be able to go online. Heck, my infection was so bad, it even disabled my ability to do a manual run of my anti-virus and anti-spyware! To an individual with basic computer skills, this annoyance will make you go to your nearest geeksquad and spend a hefty amount for its removal. But for industrious individuals, there is way and it effectively removes this rogue malware. There is a ton of information online on how to go... 5/5 Iron Man "JON" - See all my reviews, September 8, 2010

    Malwarebytes

I would highly recommend this product for all Windows users. I saved a friend's computer from several Trojans that took over his computer. It took a lot of work to be able to install this product and run it but that was only caused by the Trojans. Those suckers would not allow access to internet and all types of folders and installations. I finally ran this Malwarebytes program after getting it to install and run in safe mode and wow it took care of all those horrible Trojans. I even used the file assassin program that comes with the purchase to destroy extra file extensions to some other forms of viruses that were hidden from his standard Anti Virus program. 5/5 Jaycoub "Jaycoub" (Minnesota) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Fast and Effective (better than alkaseltzer)

I had been having problems for several months with my triple core ACER system due to an ignorant mistake I made allowing an internet "free scan" advertised to me to "free scan" my hard drive. (Yeah I know call me dumb). Well it "free scanned" alright and after that every 30 minutes this pop-up advertisement would come on my screen; bounce me off the place I was on and I'd have to wait 8 (seemed forever slow) seconds for this advertisement to creep up and down the screen of my desktop. When playing on-line games I would get bounced back to the desktop and interupt my game play, usually at the most crucial times. To say the least it was annoying but I tried everything I could think of to get rid of it to no avail. I located it on my tool bar but it couldn't be removed, I used my McAffee scan and dug deep into what it could do but it could not remove that maleware. (guessing its maleware). I googled the internet following lots of others advice and ways and means which didn't solve... 5/5 Kim Clayton (BELLEVILLE, IL, US) - See all my reviews, April 11, 2011
