Great Product But Too Many Problems

After using Norton for years and getting totally frustrated with their horrible service and an atrocious product called Norton 360 [early version], I switched to Kaspersky about 3 years ago. That was a smart move because Kaspersky has better customer service and a SUPERIOR product. Let me start by saying Kaspersky is the best consumer product for protection of your computer, however, they have significant problems every time they upgrade to a new version. Even worse, management refuses to communicate with their customers about those problems. One of the pluses of buying this product is the following. If a new version comes out during your one year cycle, you can upgrade to the new product for FREE. The downside, with both the 2010 and 2011 upgrades, many customers [not all] had major problems. With the 2010 upgrade, I was one of many whose system slowed to a crawl for weeks until they finally fixed the problem. Management failed to send out an email advising customers there... 3/5 R. Whether you own a powerful desktop or a modest mini-laptop, KIS 2011 is a worthy purchase for users of Windows 7 64-bit

*(PLEASE NOTE: This review is geared towards Windows 7 64-bit users with a fairly recent computer build, e.g. any dual core processor PC built over the past four years or less. PC users with ten-year-old Pentium 4/XP computing rigs should look elsewhere for advice; if possible, they should also consider upgrading and/or replacing their aging hardware and OS, as the cost/value ratio in the PC market has never, ever been better... even when one takes into consideration these hard economic times.)As was the case last year, after taking a month-long test run with the latest internet security suites (Avast, Norton, McAfee), I have come away very impressed with Kaspersky Internet Security. The best security package I have ever used.

Kaspersky replaced McAfee on my computer, low resource utilization and no problems. Easy installation. Not only can I use my computer at any time, I can also print on my wireless connected printer. McAfee decided that since I did not have their product installed on the "computer" on my home network I could not use it. To print I had to disable the firewall. Kaspersky correctly identifies the device as a printer and have no problems using all of the features of my all-in-one.The installation was flawless and fast, even though there was a new version available and the download was large.Full system scan runs very quietly on the background and I don't even notice it is doing anything, I had to open the window to see if it was still doing it or it was completed. It also ran in half the time of what McAfee used to take, and you do notice McAfee when it is running.Another advantage is that it has not used up another license because I am running... 5/5 Gustavo Orellana - See all my reviews, September 20, 2010

Great protection from Kaspersky as usual.

Installation & First Impression:*****************************Installation of KIS 2012 was quite speedy. At the beginning of the installation process the program looked for any conflicting security programs that were already installed and to my surprise, it actually found remnants of Microsoft Security Essentials that I had previously uninstalled. After this was cleared up, it was a simple case of activating the product online and viola!, I was up and running. Albeit needing a definition update.Once KIS was up and running I downloaded the latest update, which took quite a while, and then gave it a quick scan. As this is the first 2012 malware product I've looked at thus far, it is difficult to be objective as to how Kaspersky's latest will compare with others that are released in the latter part of the year, but my initial impression is quite positive. KIS 2012 is jam-packed full of all the features that you would expect to see in such a program and definitely... 5/5 Method2Madness "Alex" (Hampton Roads, VA) - See all my reviews, September 26, 2011

Super slow full scan takes the sparkle off an otherwise great product

I received Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 from the Amazon Vine Reviewer Program. Because I received the 3-license version I installed it on two PC's: desktop running Vista 32-bit and a desktop running Windows 7 64-bit.I had planned on also installing it on an XP desktop as this software gives you one code to license 3 machines for 1 year, however that is being old and fussy upon this writing and may need to die a natural death, thus I may have to install Kaspersky on yet another Win 7 machine instead. I will update this review after the third install.**Note that this software works with 32 and 64-bit Windows OS's Vista, XP and 7, but doesn't support Mac.**The Positives:Installation on both machines was easy, but much quicker on the Windows 7 machine. Probably more about the OS than this software. On both the Vista and Win 7 PC's the system moved quicker than with other antivirus' used before - Trend Micro on one and Kaspersky Pure on the... 3/5 Andrea L. Great Product But Hassle To Activate

I have used Kaspersky Internet Security Suite for my overall internet security for a number of years now. It is a very good product. However, the only issue I've encountered is the activation process. I encountered the same issue as Catlovertwo. Several times when I've renewed my subscription... whether by download or retail box(disk)the activation code provided with the product is always invalid, which means contacting customer service and having to scan and email copies of the disk, box,UPC,receipt... etc to prove ownership in order to get the correct activation code... it's a big inconvenience and hassle. 4/5 A NC Tarheel (North Carolina) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Best option out there

First of all anti-virus software always slows your computer down. I don't know why people write reviews commenting out that. What is important is how much does this software slow you computer down in comparison to Norton or symantec or whatever you are using. I have found this program superior in all respects of performance it does not slow you computer down as much as other anti-virus software and in my opinion the updates are faster and the protection better than Norton with out a bunch of stuff you don't want/need. The only thing is you have to buy the program from amazon every year. The renew activation codes you download through the Kaspersky website seem to not work too well. Bottom line this is best anti-virus program. 5/5 Mike W. "Mike" (Washington DC) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Better than Norton

I have used Norton's products for a long time and been fairly happy with them. However, Kaspersky has always been an interesting product for me since it it said to use less system resources and be less intrusive in my day to day work.I have used Kaspersky now for several months and have to say that I really like it, even better than Norton.Pros:- Lets my system run smoother- Less intrusive. It just works without telling me everything it does.- Easy to install and configure (on Windows Vista)- Good level of protection (always hard to tell, but I got a probable virus using Norton that ruined my printing abilities. I haven't gotten it using Kaspersky...though it's also dependent on other issues, of course.)Cons:- none so far. Get yours! 4/5 Dare to love (Alingsås, Sweden) - See all my reviews, March 2, 2011

The geek's choice for anti virus - but consider a product with more features

Kaspersky has long been the anti-virus program favored by computer geeks, and for good reason. It's highly effective, and has a less heavy-handed and less resource-intensive approach than many of the alternatives. But stand-alone anti-virus programs are of somewhat limited use beyond the computer expert community, whose users want to have the best performance for each feature (such as a separate, configurable firewall) and tweak their other settings. And on the other end of the spectrum, budget conscious users can probably manage well enough with free anti-virus programs, the Windows firewall, and some care in where they browse and how their computers are set. Most users would do best to buy a more full featured program that provides an enhanced firewall, spam protection, malware protection while browsing, and perhaps parental controls. For many users, something like the... 4/5 Snap, Crackle and Pop (United States) - See all my reviews, February 16, 2011

Outstanding internet security without impacting your computer's performance

I was given the opportunity to evaluate Kaspersky PURE on computers where I had been running Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 and Norton Internet Security 2010. The two computers I used for the evaluation were a 6 year old laptop running Windows XP Professional with a 2 Ghz processor and 2 GB of RAM and a 2 year old netbook running Windows XP Professional with an Intel Atom 1.6 Ghz processor and 2 GB of RAM. Both computers have about 10 GB of free space on the hard drives. Neither of these computers has significant processing power or disc space by today's standards and so the use of a internet security package that provides excellent protection but does not bog down the system is a priority. I found that Kaspersky PURE excelled at this. When I first tried to install PURE, I received an alert that I needed to remove other Kaspersky programs prior to the installation of PURE. This required a reboot of my machine after Kaspersky Internet Security was removed. Otherwise,... 5/5 mhnstr (Christchurch, New Zealand) - See all my reviews, February 15, 2011

Norton gets stepped on with Kaspersky's little footprint.

It's like I have a brand new computer. Uninstalling Norton and AVG and Avast and McAfee and enough! Finally, someone gets it right and I actually feel secure. Plus there is the bonus that I can actually use my computer without lag.Once installed and updated, Pure is up and running smoothy with an appealing and user friendly program screen. Easy to setup with many preferences that can be changed, or just select the recommended settings for your system. It tells you what you should do based on the system you install on. I have installed on two systems, one older desktop PC running Windows XP, and a Christmas received HP notebook running Windows 7. Both running perfectly, and wow, did my desktop XP PC need Pure! It's so fast now. With automatic backup, scanning and live protection from viruses and spam, in no matter what form, it has your back. Most times you install security software not feeling 100% secure, and just assume it's doing it's job. But after... 5/5 M. Agostino "4for3.info" (New England) - See all my reviews, March 16, 2011

I mean I could use remote desktop but this is kind of a nice feature.A few other things have been added that are not in the KIS 2011 edition: Password Manager (limited to 32-bit browsers though), Automatic backup features, and a few other security features... Solid Internet Security Suite Works Quite Well With Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit

I own a 3-year-old Dell XPS 410 with an Intel Core 2 6700 CPU @ 2.66GHz, equipped with a RAID 0 650 GB dual hard drive, 4 GB DDR2 RAM and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB "Direct X 10"-compatible graphics card; for the most part, I have been displeased with the performance of my computer ever since my initial purchase... and this disappointment extended to the performance of my chosen internet security suite, KIS 2007-2010.After several years of using the miserably sluggish, sporadically buggy Vista Ultimate 32-bit OS, I have recently upgraded my computer to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit (all I can say is WHAT A DIFFERENCE... for those interested, upgrade ASAP). After a clean install, I reluctantly decided to reinstall KIS 2010 and see how well it would perform with my new OS. I wasn't too impressed with KIS 2010's overall performance when I ran it on Vista Ultimate 32-bit (although it was improved over KIS 2009), but running it on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit is another story... 4/5 Hugo D. Bloatware that should be avoided

I've used just about every security system in the world over the years and a year ago settled on Kaspersky 2009, which is easy to use, runs well, and does everything perfectly. Then, in September, it came time to renew my annual license. I paid my money, and, instead of just renewing me, Kaspersky sent me their new program, 2010. I installed it with no problem. The interface is more complicated but not *really* hard to figure out. After a while, however, I started noticing that there were various sites that I couldn't get to on the Internet (I use Chrome as my browser). Then I discovered that some programs, such as Eudora and Agent were taking longer and longer and longer to shut down when I clicked the X in the corner. And that almost *all* programs I opened or *all* websites that I went to were *much* slower in starting up than they had been before. I tried getting help for various issues at the online Forum where various people send in their problems and other... 2/5 Hayford Peirce (Tucson, AZ United States) - See all my reviews, November 7, 2009

Solid protection, and better than the big players

Count me as a convert. Aside from the fact that both Norton and McAfee are bloated and intrusive, Kaspersky has some really nice features. One thing that's a big win for me is how the protection coverage works. Buying this package gives you a license to run the software, and virus database updates for a year for 3 PCs. At the end of that year, the updates stop but the protection level you had when it expired continues as long as you like. With the others (esp. Norton and AVG), your protection stops after the license expires, which is of course a total ripoff that you don't find out until you're 'hooked'. Then your protection turns into 'nagware', bugging you every five minutes until you renew. Up until my switch, I always cursed them under my breath then coughed up money to them (bad). In this game, Kaspersky comes off as the good guys. You get standard virus coverage, along with some extras that should keep you safe against most malicious... 4/5 J. Great AV Product

Antivirus can be a controversial subject. If you ask 20 different computer entusiasts or IT professionals what the best AV product is, you will not only get 20 different answers, but almost as many angry shouts about how horrible everybody else's picks were. Similarly, and only to make matters worse, if you do your research and read the "10 best antivirus products of 2011" articles then you will see that the rankings change all the time. Every year it seems some "who-the-heck-is-that" antivirus product makes it on to the number 1 or 2 spot for the major roundups. More frustrating is the fact that from site to site and review to review, the conclusions can be schizophrenic--with one site's number 1 pick being the other site's worst of the crop. From my own experience, I will tell you that no antivirus is a silver bullet, they all will catch some malware that others miss, and vice versa. Beware of fanboys and beware too of haters. But most of all, beware of anyone who gives you their... 5/5 Leo "Katphish" (Norwich, NY, United States) - See all my reviews, September 19, 2011

    Solid antivirus protection

I have this software installed on a desktop and a laptop with Windows XP. It's been running for a few days now and it is performing well. It was easy to configure and does what I expect from an anitvirus program. It updates automatically, scans files and email and monitors incoming web traffic for dangerous scripts. It doesn't slow down my system or nag me with pop-ups. Once it's configured it disappears into the background. To be clear, any program that's running in the background is going to use some memory. This software has a small footprint in comparison to others and no slow down was experienced.Prior to installation I removed the antivirus software I was currently running as recommended in the quick start instruction guide. After removal I put the Kaspersky DVD in the computer and it popped up a user friendly interface and I began the installation. The first thing I did after installation was complete was to click on the 'Update' button which downloaded... 4/5 Leslie (Midwestern USA) - See all my reviews, September 21, 2011

    Tech Support Scam

I have had Kaspersky Internet Security for two years. The program is great, but I encountered a problem with installation. When I tried to find the technical support number for the product, it was no where to be found on my invoice. I then went out on the internet to try and find technical support for Kaspersky product installation. However I encountered a bogus support line, that was trying to sell me additional products without helping me with my installation problem. If Kaspersky would put a tech support number on the internet invoice I received after purchasing the new 2012 edition of Internet Security, I would have been able to solve my problem without encountering a bogus site online. 3/5 Michael J. Quirky product but only one compatible with W7 on iMac

Kaspersky Antivirus may be saving me from major problems but using this product is a headache. It often fails to do updates correctly resulting in "corrupted databases". Then have to repair the system and sometimes have to re-install.The system page will not show up on the screen unless you load the help program first (using the applications lists in Windows 7).Updates on Parallels 6 drive this program nuts.Tried to find other antivirus software which would protect the Windows 7 running with Parallels on my iMac, but TrendMicro would not commit that their program would work. Can't stand Norton - bad experiences with intro of Vista - so didn't even look there.Yes, I believe we need protection so this is our only choice - but it is less than user friendly. 3/5 Blaine Darrah - See all my reviews, December 23, 2010

    Fast scan

I downloaded MyAntiVirus Pro to my Kindle Fire. I thought it might run in the background, but I need to click on it and tell it to scan. I can't ask it to scan just one app, it has to scan them all. The good thing is the scan is fast, whether I choose the quick scan or the full scan. There is an update feature, but it is not automatic. It needs to be selected manually. The most niggly thing about it is hitting "exit" does not exit the app. I need to hit the "home" icon to get out, but that's not exactly hard to do. It's not a bad antivirus scanner, and I'm happy for the speed._______________________UPDATE: I just want to make a correction to my review. I wrote the above review after running it for about a day. After using it a few days, it has become apparent that this little app does run in the background. After every app download, the antivirus app tells me there are no viruses. The software also asks me for permission to update. It's... 5/5 Noname - See all my reviews, January 2, 2012
