Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 - 3 Users
Software (Kaspersky Lab)
List Price: $79.95
Great protection from Kaspersky as usual.
Installation & First Impression:*****************************Installation of KIS 2012 was quite speedy. At the beginning of the installation process the program looked for any conflicting security programs that were already installed and to my surprise, it actually found remnants of Microsoft Security Essentials that I had previously uninstalled. After this was cleared up, it was a simple case of activating the product online and viola!, I was up and running. Albeit needing a definition update.Once KIS was up and running I downloaded the latest update, which took quite a while, and then gave it a quick scan. As this is the first 2012 malware product I've looked at thus far, it is difficult to be objective as to how Kaspersky's latest will compare with others that are released in the latter part of the year, but my initial impression is quite positive. KIS 2012 is jam-packed full of all the features that you would expect to see in such a program and definitely... 5/5 Method2Madness "Alex" (Hampton Roads, VA) - See all my reviews, September 26, 2011Super slow full scan takes the sparkle off an otherwise great product
I received Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 from the Amazon Vine Reviewer Program. Because I received the 3-license version I installed it on two PC's: desktop running Vista 32-bit and a desktop running Windows 7 64-bit.I had planned on also installing it on an XP desktop as this software gives you one code to license 3 machines for 1 year, however that is being old and fussy upon this writing and may need to die a natural death, thus I may have to install Kaspersky on yet another Win 7 machine instead. I will update this review after the third install.**Note that this software works with 32 and 64-bit Windows OS's Vista, XP and 7, but doesn't support Mac.**The Positives:Installation on both machines was easy, but much quicker on the Windows 7 machine. Probably more about the OS than this software. On both the Vista and Win 7 PC's the system moved quicker than with other antivirus' used before - Trend Micro on one and Kaspersky Pure on the... 3/5 Andrea L. Great AV Product
Antivirus can be a controversial subject. If you ask 20 different computer entusiasts or IT professionals what the best AV product is, you will not only get 20 different answers, but almost as many angry shouts about how horrible everybody else's picks were. Similarly, and only to make matters worse, if you do your research and read the "10 best antivirus products of 2011" articles then you will see that the rankings change all the time. Every year it seems some "who-the-heck-is-that" antivirus product makes it on to the number 1 or 2 spot for the major roundups. More frustrating is the fact that from site to site and review to review, the conclusions can be schizophrenic--with one site's number 1 pick being the other site's worst of the crop. From my own experience, I will tell you that no antivirus is a silver bullet, they all will catch some malware that others miss, and vice versa. Beware of fanboys and beware too of haters. But most of all, beware of anyone who gives you their... 5/5 Leo "Katphish" (Norwich, NY, United States) - See all my reviews, September 19, 2011Solid antivirus protection
I have this software installed on a desktop and a laptop with Windows XP. It's been running for a few days now and it is performing well. It was easy to configure and does what I expect from an anitvirus program. It updates automatically, scans files and email and monitors incoming web traffic for dangerous scripts. It doesn't slow down my system or nag me with pop-ups. Once it's configured it disappears into the background. To be clear, any program that's running in the background is going to use some memory. This software has a small footprint in comparison to others and no slow down was experienced.Prior to installation I removed the antivirus software I was currently running as recommended in the quick start instruction guide. After removal I put the Kaspersky DVD in the computer and it popped up a user friendly interface and I began the installation. The first thing I did after installation was complete was to click on the 'Update' button which downloaded... 4/5 Leslie (Midwestern USA) - See all my reviews, September 21, 2011Tech Support Scam
I have had Kaspersky Internet Security for two years. The program is great, but I encountered a problem with installation. When I tried to find the technical support number for the product, it was no where to be found on my invoice. I then went out on the internet to try and find technical support for Kaspersky product installation. However I encountered a bogus support line, that was trying to sell me additional products without helping me with my installation problem. If Kaspersky would put a tech support number on the internet invoice I received after purchasing the new 2012 edition of Internet Security, I would have been able to solve my problem without encountering a bogus site online. 3/5 Michael J. Great Product But Too Many Problems
After using Norton for years and getting totally frustrated with their horrible service and an atrocious product called Norton 360 [early version], I switched to Kaspersky about 3 years ago. That was a smart move because Kaspersky has better customer service and a SUPERIOR product. Let me start by saying Kaspersky is the best consumer product for protection of your computer, however, they have significant problems every time they upgrade to a new version. Even worse, management refuses to communicate with their customers about those problems. One of the pluses of buying this product is the following. If a new version comes out during your one year cycle, you can upgrade to the new product for FREE. The downside, with both the 2010 and 2011 upgrades, many customers [not all] had major problems. With the 2010 upgrade, I was one of many whose system slowed to a crawl for weeks until they finally fixed the problem. Management failed to send out an email advising customers there... 3/5 R. Kaspersky replaced McAfee on my computer, low resource utilization and no problems. Easy installation. Not only can I use my computer at any time, I can also print on my wireless connected printer. McAfee decided that since I did not have their product installed on the "computer" on my home network I could not use it. To print I had to disable the firewall. Kaspersky correctly identifies the device as a printer and have no problems using all of the features of my all-in-one.The installation was flawless and fast, even though there was a new version available and the download was large.Full system scan runs very quietly on the background and I don't even notice it is doing anything, I had to open the window to see if it was still doing it or it was completed. It also ran in half the time of what McAfee used to take, and you do notice McAfee when it is running.Another advantage is that it has not used up another license because I am running... 5/5 Gustavo Orellana - See all my reviews, September 20, 2010Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 delivers essential anti-virus protection with advanced features such as a best-in-class firewall, anti-spam, and moreSafe Desktop allows you to safely open any suspicious application, file, email or web siteSmall footprint, tiny updates and intelligent scanning lets your machine perform to the maxHourly signature updates, best-in-class unknown threat protection, and application alerts give you complete confidenceEnhanced parental controls to limit or log activities and communications -

Outstanding internet security without impacting your computer's performance
I was given the opportunity to evaluate Kaspersky PURE on computers where I had been running Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 and Norton Internet Security 2010. The two computers I used for the evaluation were a 6 year old laptop running Windows XP Professional with a 2 Ghz processor and 2 GB of RAM and a 2 year old netbook running Windows XP Professional with an Intel Atom 1.6 Ghz processor and 2 GB of RAM. Both computers have about 10 GB of free space on the hard drives. Neither of these computers has significant processing power or disc space by today's standards and so the use of a internet security package that provides excellent protection but does not bog down the system is a priority. I found that Kaspersky PURE excelled at this. When I first tried to install PURE, I received an alert that I needed to remove other Kaspersky programs prior to the installation of PURE. This required a reboot of my machine after Kaspersky Internet Security was removed. It's like I have a brand new computer. Uninstalling Norton and AVG and Avast and McAfee and enough! Finally, someone gets it right and I actually feel secure. Plus there is the bonus that I can actually use my computer without lag.Once installed and updated, Pure is up and running smoothy with an appealing and user friendly program screen. Easy to setup with many preferences that can be changed, or just select the recommended settings for your system. It tells you what you should do based on the system you install on. I have installed on two systems, one older desktop PC running Windows XP, and a Christmas received HP notebook running Windows 7. Both running perfectly, and wow, did my desktop XP PC need Pure! It's so fast now. With automatic backup, scanning and live protection from viruses and spam, in no matter what form, it has your back. Caveat Emptor
McAfee is so on top of it that it checks your computer for threats BEFORE it installs itself, even downloading the latest definitions. Then it cleans threats on what is an essentially unthreatened machine. And finishes without a report. If I have ever seen a real program behaving like the malware it fights, here it is. Showmanship, a marketing hook. Or, maybe it really catches stuff, in that case it's a nice feature. And then the inevitable dire warning about having another security app installed, and promising nothing will work right if you leave it installed. True in a few rare cases, but as Spybot S&D once pointed out, they have tested their product against all the majors and there was no compatibility issues. So, another marketing ploy to eliminate the competition. But all in all, at first glance 2012 seems relatively unchanged since the 2011 version. It strikes me as another unnecessary marketing ploy - and a confusing one- to issue a new name every year-... 2/5 palealien "I'm not bad, I 'm just drawn that way" (Butte Creek Canyon, Ca United States) - See all my reviews, November 3, 2011Installation a little touchy... I thought to myself "I don't REALLY want to give McAfee an awful review... so lets try their customer support. First they suggest downloading and installing a virtual technician. (Not exactly, I'm being flippant...)After that I had to install a couple pieces of communication software and then I was running with one of their technicians. Decent Security Suite - with a caviat
I have used Trend Micro's security solutions in the past and there have been both good and bad versions that have hit my desk. I was hopeful that this version would be a big improvement from the last version I tried (the 2010 edition) and while it is there are important considerations that I believe make this package overpriced.I loaded Titanium Internet Security 2012 on a 32-bit Windows XP target, with a 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 with 2 GB RAM. This system cannot be considered cutting edge by most standards anymore but it is sufficient for running this security suite.Although the requirements on the packaging list a number of acceptable browsers for Titanium to work, what it doesn't tell you is that MSIE version 7.0 or better MUST be installed for the package to even load. Keep this in mind, as it is easy to get very frustrated when loading this package on an older target. I was particuarly attracted by the promise of easy set up and economic use of disk space and memory. The package comes with two cds, one for PCs and one for MAC. Installation is easy. Just pop the CD in and follow the instructions. I did have to update a service pack on the computer before I was able to install the program. I did think the actual installation and activation time was a tad long, about ten minutes not including download of an update to the titanium program. Other than that, the program seems to be working well without interfering with the computer's performance. Notably, this program does not have the constant alerts and notifications youget with other security suites. Bitdefender Internet Security 2012 Value M2 3Pc/2 Years
Software (Bitdefender)
List Price: $69.95
2012 is a very BAD miss . . .
I have BIS 2011, and despite a few quirks, I like the program and the value for 3 PCs for 2 years. I like that I can upgrade to BIS 2012 for free using my existing license. I was quite happy with BIS 2011, but I figured I'd upgrade to 2012. That was the start of my mistakes. After uninstalling 2011 using the Bitdefender uninstall tool, the upgrade to 2012 seemed fairly speedy. However, after rebooting the PC, I was hit by pop-ups I'd never seen, and due to a completely and radically redesigned interface, I had some issues making adjustments to the controls. OK, I'm a tech geek, and I can adapt to new control locations, so not a big deal. Then I ran into the big deal: A nearly complete and utter slow down of my internet. Whether I used IE or Firefox, the browser would just sit and act like it was loading. Sometimes, it was stuck in an infinite "load" loop, while other times, the site would load after 10-15 minutes of sitting there. I could clear cache, shutdown the... 1/5 B. I am doing computer repair repair business in Norfolk VA (...) I have been trying almost all virus protection softwares on market for several years.I used Bitdefender brand for several years with very little problems. I can tell the last version of Bitdefender is the excellent one comparing old versions and others on market. Installation is very easy and it has auto pilot mode which means you don't need professional help for setup and installation.I am really much happier using latest Bitdefender product with no problem. I always recommend it to my clients. Also my number 2 product is Norton after Bitdefender. 5/5 T. Erol "Torky" - See all my reviews, September 12, 2011Computer Too Fast?
If you cannot keep up with your computer, install a Bitdefender product. I guarantee you that it will slow your computer to a crawl. 2012 and 2011 products work equally well to make certain that you have plenty of extra time to get coffee, take phone calls, visit the restroom or to do other important work during boot-up and shutdown, while surfing the internet, when opening a program, or as you try to perform other, once too fast, computer tasks.Seriously, before you buy a Bitdefender product, go to the Bitdefender forum site and see what real users have been complaining to the software maker about since 2010. Bitdefender products offer great protection, but when the cure is worse than the disease, you may want to consider another doctor. 1/5 Music Lover - See all my reviews This review is from: Bitdefender Internet Security 2012 Value M2 3Pc/2 Years (CD-ROM) If you cannot keep up with your computer, install a Bitdefender product. I had been using AVG the free version for maybe 4 years. I always thought it did adequate job for me. I don't do file sharing. I don't open up strange emails. GMail does a good job separating the spam mails. I picked up an annoying trojan somewhere. My computer still functioned perfectly. AVG would open a warning window. I would tell AVG to quarantine and or remove the file. aVG was not able to solve this issue.I downloaded Kaspersky Antivirus 2012 and saved the exec file to HD. Then I uninstalled AVG. I rebooted. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I searched my program files folder to look for a remnant of the AVG programs folder. I think I remember finding an AVG folder. It was just a folder with a couple files in there. I deleted the remaining AVG folder. I went to the recycle bin and deleted the folder again just to make sure.I installed the trial version of Kaspersky antivirus I had downloaded. The install went smoothly. Tenia NOD32 en mi maquina y un dia entro un virus a mi PC, el NOD lo detecto pero no lo pudo eliminar, lo mando a cuarentena. Solid Internet Security Suite Works Quite Well With Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
I own a 3-year-old Dell XPS 410 with an Intel Core 2 6700 CPU @ 2.66GHz, equipped with a RAID 0 650 GB dual hard drive, 4 GB DDR2 RAM and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB "Direct X 10"-compatible graphics card; for the most part, I have been displeased with the performance of my computer ever since my initial purchase... and this disappointment extended to the performance of my chosen internet security suite, KIS 2007-2010.After several years of using the miserably sluggish, sporadically buggy Vista Ultimate 32-bit OS, I have recently upgraded my computer to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit (all I can say is WHAT A DIFFERENCE... for those interested, upgrade ASAP). After a clean install, I reluctantly decided to reinstall KIS 2010 and see how well it would perform with my new OS. I wasn't too impressed with KIS 2010's overall performance when I ran it on Vista Ultimate 32-bit (although it was improved over KIS 2009), but running it on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit is another story... 4/5 Hugo D. I've used just about every security system in the world over the years and a year ago settled on Kaspersky 2009, which is easy to use, runs well, and does everything perfectly. Then, in September, it came time to renew my annual license. I paid my money, and, instead of just renewing me, Kaspersky sent me their new program, 2010. I installed it with no problem. The interface is more complicated but not *really* hard to figure out. After a while, however, I started noticing that there were various sites that I couldn't get to on the Internet (I use Chrome as my browser). Then I discovered that some programs, such as Eudora and Agent were taking longer and longer and longer to shut down when I clicked the X in the corner. And that almost *all* programs I opened or *all* websites that I went to were *much* slower in starting up than they had been before. I tried getting help for various issues at the online Forum where various people send in their problems and other... 2/5 Hayford Peirce (Tucson, AZ United States) - See all my reviews, November 7, 2009Solid protection, and better than the big players
Count me as a convert. Aside from the fact that both Norton and McAfee are bloated and intrusive, Kaspersky has some really nice features. One thing that's a big win for me is how the protection coverage works. Buying this package gives you a license to run the software, and virus database updates for a year for 3 PCs. At the end of that year, the updates stop but the protection level you had when it expired continues as long as you like. With the others (esp. Norton and AVG), your protection stops after the license expires, which is of course a total ripoff that you don't find out until you're 'hooked'. Then your protection turns into 'nagware', bugging you every five minutes until you renew. Up until my switch, I always cursed them under my breath then coughed up money to them (bad). In this game, Kaspersky comes off as the good guys. You get standard virus coverage, along with some extras that should keep you safe against most malicious... 4/5 J. Had to contact support within 12 hours of installation...and again after that.
So here's the deal. I've been using computers since the TI-994a (actually had one called a Timex Sinclair before that)and have been "online" since the Prodigy days and 300 baud modems. So I've been around the block when it comes to computers, internet and security software. I know how to install, uninstall and tweak my way through most issues without having to contact support...until this security suite.I was previously using Norton 2011 and when this came up on Vine, I'm always looking to try new security suites. I fully removed Norton and during the BitDefender installation, it confirmed that no other security software is installed that would conflict with it (nice feature).I'm running a Windows 7 64bit Toshiba laptop with 3 GB memory and pentium processor so this shouldn't be a problem I thought. The installation went fine and I did a full system scan (took upwards of 6 hours), the product updated, requested a reboot and I thought we were off... 3/5 D. Back when I tried my first BitDefender product, the 2009 version of this same package, I was mostly concerned with the scanner not bothering me just for the sake of telling me its working, and that it would use minimal system resources. BitDefender 2009 did the job, and I'm pleased to say that BitDefender 2011 is up to par with it! (The 2010 version I personally didn't like; the interface changed a lot and it complained about things I didn't care about. In 2011, you can tell it what things that you care about...best of both worlds.)As much as I like this product, here are a few negatives:1. Installing the product on machine #1 (you get 3 licenses so you can install this package on up to 3 separate machines)... everything went well, BUT it downloaded something like 60 megs worth of "updates" immediately after installing. Virus pattern definitions generally aren't that large, so I'm not sure what the heck it was downloading. Overall, not a big deal...unless... 1/5 eyecore (PacNW, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: BitDefender Internet Security 2011 Value Edition - 3 PC/2 year [Old Version] (DVD-ROM) Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) Bit-Defender 2011 came in handy since my subscription to Norton 360 3.0 had expired on two of my computers (I have eight at home, five at work). In addition to Bit Defender I currently use the following anti-virus software ESET NOD32 4.0, Trend Micro Internet Security (2010), Trend Micro Plus, Trend Micro Office Scan, and I also have recent experience with McAfee, WebRoot, AVG, and Symantec Norton Anti-Virus. The installation went smoothly. However, they required you to register and activate using the same key and asked you to create an account, which is unusual. The first full scan took a long time and it failed. However, subsequent updates and scans were successful. The user interface is nice looking but a little bit non-traditional and somewhat confusing and so is their web site. However, they offer 24/7 support and an easy way for turning the so called game mode on/off. In game mode Bit Defender will not use as much resources. Overall Bit Defenders seems to be less... 4/5 Thomas Wikman "Texas Swede" (Texas) - See all my reviews, October 6, 2010Free technical assistance, 24/7!
