    Less cluttered interface and fairly faster than 2011

    Norton woke-up in 2009/10 making the interface user-friendly and its signature updates running in the background making the software less resource-hogging. It's continuing the same trend this year (NIS2012) with a little less cluttered interface - meaning most features automated for the novice user, but you have to dig in deep to make advanced changes. It works well with Windows7 as well as Win XP if you care (I don't have Vista - so cannot comment about that).1. Installation: As in the recent versions of NIS, installation was a snap. It took under 2 minutes, but needed a restart. If you have existing license for NIS, download the update from support -> check for new version menu item from within NIS. You can update the license number from the disk later when your license is about to expire. In previous version(s), NIS overwrote existing license period if you upgraded from disk.     NIS 2011 Was Better

    I bought this because the 1 year sub was up on 2011 and I was able to get 2012 for cheaper than sub for another year for the 2011 version.Install was easy but I don't see much of a difference in what 2012 offers than what 2011 had. There are a few things I don't like about 2012:1. It scans my system a lot slower.2. No option to totally turn off autoupdate like you could in 2011. Can turn off auto but pulse updates turn on then and gets greyed out so there is no way to have them both be off at the same time. I like to update it manually liked I did 2011 but can't now.3. No way to turn off quick scans like you could in 2011.4. Seems to load slower at start up when set to "aggresive" but 2011 started right away.5. When you click on settings or any of the options the software takes longer to respond. At first I didn't think I had clicked right and tried again but it took a few seconds to respond. The user can now select to either have the simpler interface appear when opening up the Norton product, allowing for easy access to launch scans or for checking on/running live updates or otherwise one can set the product to regularly open up to the more advanced interface, displaying a revival of CPU and Norton usage meters, along with a trust level meter displaying the amount of files currently trusted by Norton that are on the computer after a reputation scan has been executed and also in conjunction to what setting one has selected beforehand for computer scanning purposes.     Great protection from Kaspersky as usual.

    Installation & First Impression:*****************************Installation of KIS 2012 was quite speedy. At the beginning of the installation process the program looked for any conflicting security programs that were already installed and to my surprise, it actually found remnants of Microsoft Security Essentials that I had previously uninstalled. After this was cleared up, it was a simple case of activating the product online and viola!, I was up and running. Albeit needing a definition update.Once KIS was up and running I downloaded the latest update, which took quite a while, and then gave it a quick scan. As this is the first 2012 malware product I've looked at thus far, it is difficult to be objective as to how Kaspersky's latest will compare with others that are released in the latter part of the year, but my initial impression is quite positive.     Super slow full scan takes the sparkle off an otherwise great product

    I received Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 from the Amazon Vine Reviewer Program. Because I received the 3-license version I installed it on two PC's: desktop running Vista 32-bit and a desktop running Windows 7 64-bit.I had planned on also installing it on an XP desktop as this software gives you one code to license 3 machines for 1 year, however that is being old and fussy upon this writing and may need to die a natural death, thus I may have to install Kaspersky on yet another Win 7 machine instead. I will update this review after the third install.**Note that this software works with 32 and 64-bit Windows OS's Vista, XP and 7, but doesn't support Mac.**The Positives:Installation on both machines was easy, but much quicker on the Windows 7 machine. Probably more about the OS than this software.     Excellent program but.....

    I have found the newer versions (2011-2012) of Norton Internet Security to be both highly effective at protecting my PC and absent of the cumbersome background programs that effected system performance. I am a fan and will continue to use it. The only change that is bad is that now when you add a new version it does not just add 365 days to whatever days you have remaining on your current protection so you just lose out on those days. That is not the way it has been in the past so wait until your current version is expiring to install the new code and activate it so you don't lose the last 50 days of your current protection like I did. 3/5 R.     Much more reasonable through Amazon

    I've always trusted and used Norton Internet Security programs on my computers. The last few years I just had Symantic load the new program automatically each year. But, this year when they told me my virus protection would be expiring in 30 days, and then informed me that they just wanted to let me know my credit card would automatically be charged the 59.99 to renew. I thought to myself that was awfully expensive especially being that this year had been hard on my family financially, so I started looking around. Lo and behold I found the same virus protection software through Amazon for less than half the price.     Still the best

    I have used Norton for years, in its various personas (anti-virus, Internet security, and 360). Generally I buy whatever is available for a good price on Black Friday. This year is was the Internet Security, but only for one computer. So I had to substitute the freebee, McAfee, on my second and third computers. I wish I had not. Should have just paid for the extra support.So for me, at least, Norton has always worked. I have never had a virus get through. The anti spam works, and my computers don't crash. McAfee, on the other hand, has not worked well and will be replaced. I highly recommend any Norton product, keeping in mind that smaller older computers should use the simplest product available (anti-virus), instead of the top product (360), so that the software doesn't make your computer lag much. 5/5 Victoria H.     After tested many of the major brands plus some that are less known in the past decade, I've been a steady customer of Kaspersky Internet Security for many years now. I have to say that I haven't tested all of the related software available, but Kaspersky, certainly when you speak of the major brands, is without a doubt the best at internet security. Their virus scanner is the best in their class. I also praise them because of the many options by which you can configure your security and the tutorials and all other scans you do using this piece of software.     I have been a big fan of Kaspersky and this edition does not disappoint. The interface seems easier to use and the program seems to be faster.     Decent Security Suite - with a caviat

    I have used Trend Micro's security solutions in the past and there have been both good and bad versions that have hit my desk. I was hopeful that this version would be a big improvement from the last version I tried (the 2010 edition) and while it is there are important considerations that I believe make this package overpriced.I loaded Titanium Internet Security 2012 on a 32-bit Windows XP target, with a 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 with 2 GB RAM. This system cannot be considered cutting edge by most standards anymore but it is sufficient for running this security suite.Although the requirements on the packaging list a number of acceptable browsers for Titanium to work, what it doesn't tell you is that MSIE version 7.0 or better MUST be installed for the package to even load. Keep this in mind, as it is easy to get very frustrated when loading this package on an older target.     SoFar So Good

    I installed this program on an older computer used primarily for surfing and email. Other security suites really slowed this computer down and were not all that effective. I was particuarly attracted by the promise of easy set up and economic use of disk space and memory.The package comes with two cds, one for PCs and one for MAC. Installation is easy. Just pop the CD in and follow the instructions. I did have to update a service pack on the computer before I was able to install the program. I did think the actual installation and activation time was a tad long, about ten minutes not including download of an update to the titanium program. Other than that, the program seems to be working well without interfering with the computer's performance. Notably, this program does not have the constant alerts and notifications youget with other security suites.     Long term TM user disappointed

    Did some evaluative online research which stated Norton, Kaspersky etc overall better than TM which had degraded in malware deterrence effectiveness. Please confirm this yourself and comment as needed. Tried the 2012 TM anyway as we had been using it for years and had been satisfied. BIG PROBLEMS with the installation disc and then with TM's Firewall Booster apparently making Windows firewall permanently inoperable during TM installation. The system event log confirmed TM application errors. TM technical support was brief, unsympathetic and simply gave out Microsoft's technical support 800 number, ie, they said MS firewall not our problem, goodbye.Conclusion, am returning TM 2012 security suite for refund. In this process discovered that Microsoft's free Security Essentials may be a better product, and if need be Kaspersjy 2012 has well reviewed SW firewall. BIG PROBLEMS with the installation disc and then with TM's Firewall Booster apparently making Windows firewall permanently inoperable during TM installation. The system event log confirmed TM application errors. TM technical support was brief, unsympathetic and simply gave out Microsoft's technical support 800 number, ie, they said MS firewall not our problem, goodbye.Conclusion, am returning TM 2012 security suite for refund. In this process discovered that Microsoft's free Security Essentials may be a better product, and if need be Kaspersjy 2012 has well reviewed SW firewall.     Great AV Product

    Antivirus can be a controversial subject. If you ask 20 different computer entusiasts or IT professionals what the best AV product is, you will not only get 20 different answers, but almost as many angry shouts about how horrible everybody else's picks were. Similarly, and only to make matters worse, if you do your research and read the "10 best antivirus products of 2011" articles then you will see that the rankings change all the time. Every year it seems some "who-the-heck-is-that" antivirus product makes it on to the number 1 or 2 spot for the major roundups. More frustrating is the fact that from site to site and review to review, the conclusions can be schizophrenic--with one site's number 1 pick being the other site's worst of the crop. From my own experience, I will tell you that no antivirus is a silver bullet, they all will catch some malware that others miss, and vice versa. Beware of fanboys and beware too of haters.     Solid antivirus protection

    I have this software installed on a desktop and a laptop with Windows XP. It's been running for a few days now and it is performing well. It was easy to configure and does what I expect from an anitvirus program. It updates automatically, scans files and email and monitors incoming web traffic for dangerous scripts. It doesn't slow down my system or nag me with pop-ups. Once it's configured it disappears into the background. To be clear, any program that's running in the background is going to use some memory. This software has a small footprint in comparison to others and no slow down was experienced.Prior to installation I removed the antivirus software I was currently running as recommended in the quick start instruction guide.     Tech Support Scam

    I have had Kaspersky Internet Security for two years. The program is great, but I encountered a problem with installation. When I tried to find the technical support number for the product, it was no where to be found on my invoice. I then went out on the internet to try and find technical support for Kaspersky product installation. However I encountered a bogus support line, that was trying to sell me additional products without helping me with my installation problem. If Kaspersky would put a tech support number on the internet invoice I received after purchasing the new 2012 edition of Internet Security, I would have been able to solve my problem without encountering a bogus site online. 3/5 Michael J.     McAfee is so on top of it that it checks your computer for threats BEFORE it installs itself, even downloading the latest definitions. Then it cleans threats on what is an essentially unthreatened machine. And finishes without a report. If I have ever seen a real program behaving like the malware it fights, here it is. Showmanship, a marketing hook. Or, maybe it really catches stuff, in that case it's a nice feature.And then the inevitable dire warning about having another security app installed, and promising nothing will work right if you leave it installed. True in a few rare cases, but as Spybot S&D once pointed out, they have tested their product against all the majors and there was no compatibility issues. So, another marketing ploy to eliminate the competition.But all in all, at first glance 2012 seems relatively unchanged since the 2011 version.     Installation a little touchy... HELPFUL customer support technology.

    Day 1:Popped the CD in the drive, I started the installation procedure. However, the installation failed with a generic "Installation incomplete" error with no code. I went online to download a trial version so I could then just input the code... but I got the same error here.Day 2: I tried both things one more time... I thought to myself "I don't REALLY want to give McAfee an awful review... so lets try their customer support. First they suggest downloading and installing a virtual technician. I did this, but the technician said "Fool, you have no McAfee installation for me to work with!" (Not exactly, I'm being flippant...)After that I had to install a couple pieces of communication software and then I was running with one of their technicians.     I was a user of McAfee, and had a license on a computer that isn't used very often. When the subscription ran out, I did not renew it immediately since the pc doesn't access the internet and is usually off.I was contacted by McAfee's Legal Affairs-License Compliance Services department stating "It has come to our attention your McAfee Technical Support agreement has expired within the last 30 days....Once expired, continued use of McAfee technical support will result in a breach of your license agreement and may require a comprehensive McAfee license entitlement review. Please contact me within 5 (five) business days of the date of this message to ensure no further escalation occurs."It looks like threats are no longer just from viruses and malware, be ready for threats from McAfee's legal department also if you don't renew quickly enough. It must be downloaded to each computer.CONS: During the installation, it uninstalled Spybot Search & Destroy, claiming that it was incompatible. Spybot S&D had a few choice comments about that. When choosing to uninstall, a window pops up which states: "We were not able to reproduce the alleged incompatibility and Trend Micro is not able to produce an explanation either. We therefore have to assume its request to uninstall Spybot S&D is just unfair competition. The Anti-Spyware Coalition defines software that uninstalls other security software as possible malware.
