  Not What it Used to Be

  I've had Bitdefender Total Security for over 3 years and have enjoyed it. This 2012 version is a total piece of crap though.Two specific issues are the frequent "Reboot Required" security updates and the lack of scheduled scanning.1. No Scheduled Scanning - This is the kicker. Bitdefender boasts about it's new Auto Pilot feature where you can turn it on and never worry about it. Their new Auto Scan feature takes care of everything. The problem is that the program keeps track of when you last completed a "Full System Scan" and after a week, starts harrassing you. The program starts alerting you that things need your attention and wants you to start a full system scan. After about 2 weeks the program calls it a "critical" issue and turns red. Keep in mind this is with Auto Pilot ON and Auto Scan ON. You still have to manually begin full system scans once a week to resolve the issues.   Works great for me

  I bought this because my old virus software expired. I went out searching on every website for reviews on the best virus software for 2012. I wanted something that could give me FULL security but not bog down my pc. Bit defender does this. It runs quietly in the background and I have had no problems with it. I really like the file shredder feature, which permanently deletes a file so you don't have all that ghost residue which eventually slows down your computer. It has a good number of features all of which are customizable and an app you can install in you facebook and twitter (I don't use) which checks posted links and other things to make sure they are safe. I have not done any protection test (who wants to willingly expose their computer to viruses?), but so far my computer seems to be running fast and fine. I am running window 7 64 bit. 5/5 C.   Bitdefender Total Security 2012

  I bought this Internet Security program because of the rating on the internet. I have had it about 3 months. No problems with installation. I have been having problem with it lately. I contacted Bit Defenders support who have been very helpful but could not solve my problem. I finally solve the problem by installing the updates and running the repair under their program. I have no complaints on the tech service. They respond in a timely manner and very diligent in trying to correct the problem. The program is very easy to operate as stated but makes changes on its on. The " on-access scanning" becomes disabled and it will not let you enable it. I seem to have solved the problem by updating and re-installing the program.   2012 is a very BAD miss . . .

  I have BIS 2011, and despite a few quirks, I like the program and the value for 3 PCs for 2 years. I like that I can upgrade to BIS 2012 for free using my existing license. I was quite happy with BIS 2011, but I figured I'd upgrade to 2012. That was the start of my mistakes. After uninstalling 2011 using the Bitdefender uninstall tool, the upgrade to 2012 seemed fairly speedy. However, after rebooting the PC, I was hit by pop-ups I'd never seen, and due to a completely and radically redesigned interface, I had some issues making adjustments to the controls. OK, I'm a tech geek, and I can adapt to new control locations, so not a big deal.Then I ran into the big deal: A nearly complete and utter slow down of my internet. Whether I used IE or Firefox, the browser would just sit and act like it was loading.   Almost Perfect

  I am doing computer repair repair business in Norfolk VA (...) I have been trying almost all virus protection softwares on market for several years.I used Bitdefender brand for several years with very little problems. I can tell the last version of Bitdefender is the excellent one comparing old versions and others on market. Installation is very easy and it has auto pilot mode which means you don't need professional help for setup and installation.I am really much happier using latest Bitdefender product with no problem.   NO Customer service

  I have been building my own computers for years now. I have been using the free Avast for the past 2 years. I decided to research all of the anti-virus available and chose Bitdefender. I installed it on 3 computers and it will not update on any of them. I have sent numerous emails to them asking for help and get NO response. I have deleted the program and reinstalled Avast. I'm not sure why I ever left because I never had an issue. I thought i was upgrading.   I have been using Bitdefender AV for several years, and am satisfied overall. I have also been using the Comodo firewall with Defense+ for several years without conflict with BD AV.I have seen web forum complaints of Comodo firewall incompatibility with recent AV programs from various manufacturers, including BD. Much of the web badmouthing of software products is marginally coherent to say the least, and so I decided to take a chance.Well, Bitdefender AV 2012 and the latest Comodo firewall will totally mess up Windows Vista.   Won't take no on auto renew

  These people are stupid-greedy. I filled out the online order form and got to the bottom where they ask permission to store my credit card information and charge automatic renewal in a year. Amazon is the only place I trust to keep my credit card info on file so I unchecked the box. The website refused to continue unless I gave permission. I called Digital River (order processing for Bitdefender) and wasted 20 minutes on the phone with some english-as-a-second-language sales rep just to order a one year subscription. Update: the invoice came with automatic renewal written on it - now I use Kaspersky - on all 8 machines I buy for. If you have to have this program give them a temporary credit card # or one that is about to expire.   Just plain buggy, I just can't get it to work

  I have been in the computer industry as a Support Engineer for Over 30 for E.D.S. (E.C.N.E, CCIE, & Etc.), and this software is just plain buggy, just like Kaspersky Pure Total Security. Both program bog down and crash Windows 7 without much of a problem. I have new build of Windows 7 Professional(about a month old) with all the MS patches and either program is a resource hog and sometimes requires a reboot to clear up the issue. I run out of memory just using a full Virus Scan with a fast quad processor and 8GB of RAM-go figure?I am going back to either Norton's NIS 2012 or Norton's 360 V5.0, which catch like 98% of the viruses, but at least I can run Word without the computer bogging down. At the beginning of the installation process the program looked for any conflicting security programs that were already installed and to my surprise, it actually found remnants of Microsoft Security Essentials that I had previously uninstalled. After this was cleared up, it was a simple case of activating the product online and viola!, I was up and running. Albeit needing a definition update.Once KIS was up and running I downloaded the latest update, which took quite a while, and then gave it a quick scan.   Super slow full scan takes the sparkle off an otherwise great product

  I received Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 from the Amazon Vine Reviewer Program. Because I received the 3-license version I installed it on two PC's: desktop running Vista 32-bit and a desktop running Windows 7 64-bit.I had planned on also installing it on an XP desktop as this software gives you one code to license 3 machines for 1 year, however that is being old and fussy upon this writing and may need to die a natural death, thus I may have to install Kaspersky on yet another Win 7 machine instead. I will update this review after the third install.**Note that this software works with 32 and 64-bit Windows OS's Vista, XP and 7, but doesn't support Mac.**The Positives:Installation on both machines was easy, but much quicker on the Windows 7 machine.   It's money out the window.I have had BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011 for almost a month, and there hasn't been a day where I didn't have to deal with it in some way or another.First of all it's conflict galore! It conflicts with Yahoo Messenger, it conflicts with Second Life Viewers and - it seems - anything media/online related.Making exclusions don't solve anything. From day 1 I have had to seek user support for a whole bunch of various reasons: Because it was slow (14-20 hours to complete a full system scan), slowed down CPU and internet. And most of all - all the software conflicts.Be prepared to uninstall whatever malware protection and security programs you have. Which is a problem, since BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011 is not very good against malware.   BitDefender 2011

  I've had many different brands of antivirus software, this was the worst. Computer kept freezing and constantley needed to be rebooted. This software would not allow me to change some of my most basic internet settings. Attempts to contact customer support was a dead end.   Buyer Beware

  Rating would be zero stars if possible. Here's why. I installed BitDefender AV 2010 a couple of years ago on a pair of computers owned by a client. There were a few setup and configuration issues resolved in "advanced" mode, but once setup it performed well. My client uses Windows XP Pro. In December with annual renewal at $49.95, I opted to upgrade to the 2012 version. Big mistake. Much less configurable and much more automatic in function, it lacked the "advance" configuration mode of the 2010 version. For the first 25 days or so seemed to work fine. One morning I get a call that the computer would not boot properly. It got as far as loading desktop wallpaper but with no start menu or desktop shortcuts and no access to Task Manager to run anything. I restart forcing safe mode and do a full backup fearing the worst. In safe mode (with networking), Bitdefender indicates it has failed to complete an update and real-time protection is disabled.   There is no question that these days it is as much of a must to buy anti-virus software for your computer, just as much as it is to buy the computer.   VERY buggy and unstable AV program

  I purchased this program because of the great online reviews from reputable AV websites. Well, after using the program for several days it is the most buggy and unstable program that I have used--PERIOD. I am an A+ certified technician and after viewing Event logs and following the trail as to why my new laptop was crashing repeatedly, including Explorer and numerous programs, I discovered that the culprit was Bitdefender 2012. I uninstalled it and my laptop has been running PERFECTLY for days! Google or read some forum notes from Bitdefender users and you'll find that there are many issues with this program.   Too many problems.

  I have been using bit defender products for the past five years with increasing problems. The latest was with Antivirus 2012. 30 days after I installed the new product, I began getting "event" notices in the update sequence requiring a reboot to install the updates. The new software no longer tells me which update version was last installed, so I had no way to communicate the latest data to tech support. After over 200 events, I contacted tech support. The rep said if the main screen showed green everything was ok. I thought that was a brush off.I heard through a family member that U-Verse customers were able to download the McAfee Internet suite free with their service. Since tech support was late getting back to me, I had switched vendors. Funny thing, when I uninstalled bit defender, a survey window popped up asking why it was being uninstalled.   Removed it !! - Terrible!! - Non-existent support!!

  I thought an inexpensive A/V with the great ratings BD had received would be a good move. I was terribly disappointed. After installing on 3 machines, all suffered significant slowdowns. The laptops would hang when coming out of suspend, program completely blocked my wireless NIC, took special firewall exceptions and multiple reboots to get it to function. Update is intrusive and timing is poor, browser is noticeably slow with BD running. Product is only suitable for use on a machine that has a constant high bandwidth internet connection. Completely unsuitable for portable machines.No less than 3 requests for support went unanswered. The 1st couple of "we're sorry you're having a negative experience, visit our website and fix it yourself" replies were prompt, but once I asked for specific solutions to problems, silence.   Great AV Product

  Antivirus can be a controversial subject. If you ask 20 different computer entusiasts or IT professionals what the best AV product is, you will not only get 20 different answers, but almost as many angry shouts about how horrible everybody else's picks were. Similarly, and only to make matters worse, if you do your research and read the "10 best antivirus products of 2011" articles then you will see that the rankings change all the time. Every year it seems some "who-the-heck-is-that" antivirus product makes it on to the number 1 or 2 spot for the major roundups. More frustrating is the fact that from site to site and review to review, the conclusions can be schizophrenic--with one site's number 1 pick being the other site's worst of the crop. From my own experience, I will tell you that no antivirus is a silver bullet, they all will catch some malware that others miss, and vice versa. Beware of fanboys and beware too of haters.   Solid antivirus protection

  I have this software installed on a desktop and a laptop with Windows XP. It's been running for a few days now and it is performing well. It was easy to configure and does what I expect from an anitvirus program. It updates automatically, scans files and email and monitors incoming web traffic for dangerous scripts. It doesn't slow down my system or nag me with pop-ups. Once it's configured it disappears into the background. To be clear, any program that's running in the background is going to use some memory. This software has a small footprint in comparison to others and no slow down was experienced.Prior to installation I removed the antivirus software I was currently running as recommended in the quick start instruction guide.   Tech Support Scam

  I have had Kaspersky Internet Security for two years. The program is great, but I encountered a problem with installation. When I tried to find the technical support number for the product, it was no where to be found on my invoice. I then went out on the internet to try and find technical support for Kaspersky product installation. However I encountered a bogus support line, that was trying to sell me additional products without helping me with my installation problem. If Kaspersky would put a tech support number on the internet invoice I received after purchasing the new 2012 edition of Internet Security, I would have been able to solve my problem without encountering a bogus site online. 3/5 Michael J.
