  I already had Norton, which was about to expire so I downloaded this (though I was worried because of all the bad reviews). I thought it didn't work at first because it still said I had 1 day remaining. I tried uninstalling, and reinstalling Norton, but the old subscription was still active (for 1 more day). Then I tried this:All you have to do is open Norton (click on the icon) and click on Renew. Then click on I HAVE A PRODUCT KEY TO ENTER. Enter the product key and you're set for another year.I didn't give it 5 stars just because instructions were not provided with the download.   don't be mislead by the 3PC on the box

  I love norton. I buy about 10 copies a year because I have a lot of computers. I was a bit mislead by this box, 1 user 3 pcs. I thought I could install it on 3 pcs in my home and it would run for a year on each pc. well, it does not. My antivirus protection on my computers expires at different times. I just realized that when you install on the 2nd and 3rd computer, it only allows you the time left on the first computer, which to me, should be clearly advertised on the box, which I could not see it anywhere.   Sluggish Resource Hog

  I had switched to Norton back in 2009 when they started getting positive reviews for keeping resource usage at a minimum. I haven't had any real complaints with it until this 2012 version. Ever since installing it my computer runs sluggish & found it was Norton (ccSvcHst.exe) eating up 88% of my CPU just idling, it wasn't even scanning! Norton is quick to report other applications with resource usage but doesn't report itself.   Great AV Product

  Antivirus can be a controversial subject. If you ask 20 different computer entusiasts or IT professionals what the best AV product is, you will not only get 20 different answers, but almost as many angry shouts about how horrible everybody else's picks were. Similarly, and only to make matters worse, if you do your research and read the "10 best antivirus products of 2011" articles then you will see that the rankings change all the time. Every year it seems some "who-the-heck-is-that" antivirus product makes it on to the number 1 or 2 spot for the major roundups. More frustrating is the fact that from site to site and review to review, the conclusions can be schizophrenic--with one site's number 1 pick being the other site's worst of the crop. From my own experience, I will tell you that no antivirus is a silver bullet, they all will catch some malware that others miss, and vice versa. Beware of fanboys and beware too of haters.   Solid antivirus protection

  I have this software installed on a desktop and a laptop with Windows XP. It's been running for a few days now and it is performing well. It was easy to configure and does what I expect from an anitvirus program. It updates automatically, scans files and email and monitors incoming web traffic for dangerous scripts. It doesn't slow down my system or nag me with pop-ups. Once it's configured it disappears into the background. To be clear, any program that's running in the background is going to use some memory. This software has a small footprint in comparison to others and no slow down was experienced.Prior to installation I removed the antivirus software I was currently running as recommended in the quick start instruction guide.   I have had Kaspersky Internet Security for two years. The program is great, but I encountered a problem with installation. When I tried to find the technical support number for the product, it was no where to be found on my invoice. I then went out on the internet to try and find technical support for Kaspersky product installation. However I encountered a bogus support line, that was trying to sell me additional products without helping me with my installation problem. If Kaspersky would put a tech support number on the internet invoice I received after purchasing the new 2012 edition of Internet Security, I would have been able to solve my problem without encountering a bogus site online. 3/5 Michael J. At the beginning of the installation process the program looked for any conflicting security programs that were already installed and to my surprise, it actually found remnants of Microsoft Security Essentials that I had previously uninstalled.   Super slow full scan takes the sparkle off an otherwise great product

  I received Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 from the Amazon Vine Reviewer Program. Because I received the 3-license version I installed it on two PC's: desktop running Vista 32-bit and a desktop running Windows 7 64-bit.I had planned on also installing it on an XP desktop as this software gives you one code to license 3 machines for 1 year, however that is being old and fussy upon this writing and may need to die a natural death, thus I may have to install Kaspersky on yet another Win 7 machine instead. I will update this review after the third install.**Note that this software works with 32 and 64-bit Windows OS's Vista, XP and 7, but doesn't support Mac.**The Positives:Installation on both machines was easy, but much quicker on the Windows 7 machine.   Not very "Total" - it doesn't protect against malware

  I've purchased and used this product for a few years without much problems until a few days ago when the "Privacy Protection" malware infected my wife's computer. I THOUGHT I had "total protection" with this product so I simply downloaded the latest updates and ran a "deep scan"...only to discover it didn't get rid of the problem.I then went to MaAfee.com and drilled down to their technical support page. From there, I started a chat dialog with one of their technical support reps who confirmed that their software doesn't protect against this problem.   Great Product, But the cost adds up

  I own this product, but purchased it directly from McAfee. I have used it for 2 years so far on three different computers at the same time. Also my company uses McAfee as their corporate standard for over 50,000 end users. I believe it to be solid and it has consistently worked well for me. My only problem has to do with the price... each year you have to pay again and each year the price goes up. It is almost always cheaper to re-purchase the product than to extend the license. Also, they give you 2GB of online storage for backups. My wife exceeded that and the only way to get more is to pay $59/year for unlimited storage. She only needs another couple GB of storage, and $60/year more is too much to ask for. But they have me trapped because my wife does not want more programs on her laptop and she is not technical.   Buyer Beware!

  When I replaced tried to replace my expiring McAfee program, with another, Total Protection 2011,re-starting my computer was a necessary part of the installation. But upon restarting, my system crashed. For some reason I was unable to use System Restore and had to reformat the hard drive. I assumed (foolishly) that this was a system problem, and installed a new copy of Total Protection 2011 on my brand new system. It seemed to work, but asked me to "activate", which I did by clicking the activate button; but again and again it counted down the 15 days until it stopped working, never accepting activation. The software would never accept activation!! I tried to remove the program and "bang", system crash. Same problem. McAfee was no help, their auto find-and-fix did not solve the problem and I refused to pay US$128.00 to McAfee for help with a problem caused by McAfee.   This came pre-installed on my system that I use for software development and test. I do not allow automatic updates of any program for various reasons and only perform manual updates. After disabling automatic updates for McAfee I would start seeing popups telling me that I was out of date and an update had not been done recently. This appears to occur on roughly five day intervals. After going through McAfee's very poor support, who kept on wanting to access my machine after repeating several times "No", I gave up and decided to remove McAfee and move to another company's product. Much like Norton, McAfee appears to have lost sight of the user that desires flexibility over a one size fits all solution (not that I think manual updates is all that rare of a desire).Update: I have since received a phone call from McAfee stating this is working as designed. Too bad this couldn't have been stated an hour earlier by the first level support person.   Well worth the investment for protection of my computer

  I thought it would be interesting to match this program with my existing PC protection program. It was interesting and I am amazed. The Norton program was able to detect huge number of dangerous items during the first scan that had been apparently being missed by the other program.Norton Antivirus 2011 was designed to protect against viruses, spyware, worms,Trojans, Bots and Dangerous Downloads. While not in any way sophisticated to the level of knowing the consequences of each of the above, all of that sounds dangerous to my work which occupies most of my time. I want it protected to the state of the art!   I bought a 3-license version of this in 2011, when my subscription was almost up (30 days left), the application told me so and directed me to renew on the McAfee website. DO NOT DO THIS!!! Once there, I saw the renewal would be $50, when I asked their customer service, they told me that was actually for only 1 PC, the other two would be additional $30, so $80 to renew a product I bought initially with 1 year subscription for $20 on sale at a local store. While on the phone with them, I pulled up Amazon and found this product. The same thing I bought in 2011, but the 2012 version, 3-license included, 1 year subscription included, for much, much less. I asked McAfee if they price match and the woman on the other end told me in broken english that I should not trust any web site other than theirs to buy from. I told her Amazon is well known, she said the only way it would work is if I bought it from them.   Antivirus that does the job but slows down my system

  I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 with Windows Vista SP2 installed. McAffee Antivirus Plus 2012 took 20 minutes to install. Even though I unchecked "send anonymous usage info" during installation, I still find my system slows down a lot with this AntiVirus software loaded.I had to reboot twice after the installation because my system was at 100% CPU. I also was unable to get to my gmail account with the SiteAdvisor (for the web) loaded even though I put the website address in as a trusted site. Instead I decided to disable the add-ons for the browser.After my 2nd reboot, I decided to wait about 6 minutes for my system to fully boot up and McAfee to load in the system tray before I surfed the web or used any program. Once I did that, the residual slowness has been minimal. However, having to wait this long to boot up so that the CPU doesn't go to 100% is annoying.I always found that McAfee antivirus works and this 2012 version is no exception.   Gets rid of other people's Pop-Ups, and then installs its own!

  The nice thing about McAfee is that it's easy to install and does a good job of protecting your computer from viruses.The not-so-nice thing is that after one year, it starts harassing you with pop-up messages like "Your Security has Expired!   The product seems good and I've been using Norton products for multiple years. Make sure to buy the new product each year for around 40-50 dollars. Make sure to set your account to No Automatic Renewal. The online renewal and automatic renewal sells the same package for around 80 dollars. When confronted with the price difference, customer support says it's important to buy direct online from Symantec to avoid the pirated versions, or versions that only have one good activation key left.   There protections of every kind you can think of and some they simply think of for you, with backup and optimize "defrag" and adjustments for every function. I would not want to run my PC without it. The only negative is they could make it cheaper, but when you take into account it installs on 3 PCs it weight out. everything you do is protected and backup can be turned off or set to any destination. It even can connect to the network if you want to get the latest protections before they officially come out for virtually any threat. Hey you spend good money on your PC so why not take care of it right and protect it with Norton 360 (6.0 3 PCs).
