Less cluttered interface and fairly faster than 2011

Norton woke-up in 2009/10 making the interface user-friendly and its signature updates running in the background making the software less resource-hogging. It's continuing the same trend this year (NIS2012) with a little less cluttered interface - meaning most features automated for the novice user, but you have to dig in deep to make advanced changes. It works well with Windows7 as well as Win XP if you care (I don't have Vista - so cannot comment about that).1. Installation: As in the recent versions of NIS, installation was a snap. It took under 2 minutes, but needed a restart. If you have existing license for NIS, download the update from support -> check for new version menu item from within NIS. You can update the license number from the disk later when your license is about to expire. In previous version(s), NIS overwrote existing license period if you upgraded from disk. I havent checked it on this version (I still have about 90 days left, too risky!!)... 5/5 Gene Cloner (St Louis) - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2012 - 1 User 3PC (Software) Norton woke-up in 2009/10 making the interface user-friendly and its signature updates running in the background making the software less resource-hogging. NIS 2011 Was Better

I bought this because the 1 year sub was up on 2011 and I was able to get 2012 for cheaper than sub for another year for the 2011 version.Install was easy but I don't see much of a difference in what 2012 offers than what 2011 had. There are a few things I don't like about 2012:1. It scans my system a lot slower.2. No option to totally turn off autoupdate like you could in 2011. Can turn off auto but pulse updates turn on then and gets greyed out so there is no way to have them both be off at the same time. I like to update it manually liked I did 2011 but can't now.3. No way to turn off quick scans like you could in 2011.4. Seems to load slower at start up when set to "aggresive" but 2011 started right away.5. When you click on settings or any of the options the software takes longer to respond. At first I didn't think I had clicked right and tried again but it took a few seconds to respond. Quality Internet Security Suite for 2012

This version appears to build upon the 2011 version. A simplified user interface masks an upgraded version of the 2011 interface. The user can now select to either have the simpler interface appear when opening up the Norton product, allowing for easy access to launch scans or for checking on/running live updates or otherwise one can set the product to regularly open up to the more advanced interface, displaying a revival of CPU and Norton usage meters, along with a trust level meter displaying the amount of files currently trusted by Norton that are on the computer after a reputation scan has been executed and also in conjunction to what setting one has selected beforehand for computer scanning purposes. The product appears to function well, with no real noticable slowdown in performance from the previous version thus continuing on with Norton's lighter footprint design and improvements which were introduced with the 2009 versions of Nortons. Quick scans are now automatically... 5/5 Dan - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2012 - 1 User 3PC (Software) This version appears to build upon the 2011 version. Great protection from Kaspersky as usual.

Installation & First Impression:*****************************Installation of KIS 2012 was quite speedy. At the beginning of the installation process the program looked for any conflicting security programs that were already installed and to my surprise, it actually found remnants of Microsoft Security Essentials that I had previously uninstalled. After this was cleared up, it was a simple case of activating the product online and viola!, I was up and running. Albeit needing a definition update.Once KIS was up and running I downloaded the latest update, which took quite a while, and then gave it a quick scan. As this is the first 2012 malware product I've looked at thus far, it is difficult to be objective as to how Kaspersky's latest will compare with others that are released in the latter part of the year, but my initial impression is quite positive. KIS 2012 is jam-packed full of all the features that you would expect to see in such a program and definitely... 5/5 Method2Madness "Alex" (Hampton Roads, VA) - See all my reviews, September 26, 2011

Super slow full scan takes the sparkle off an otherwise great product

I received Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 from the Amazon Vine Reviewer Program. Because I received the 3-license version I installed it on two PC's: desktop running Vista 32-bit and a desktop running Windows 7 64-bit.I had planned on also installing it on an XP desktop as this software gives you one code to license 3 machines for 1 year, however that is being old and fussy upon this writing and may need to die a natural death, thus I may have to install Kaspersky on yet another Win 7 machine instead. I will update this review after the third install.**Note that this software works with 32 and 64-bit Windows OS's Vista, XP and 7, but doesn't support Mac.**The Positives:Installation on both machines was easy, but much quicker on the Windows 7 machine. Probably more about the OS than this software. On both the Vista and Win 7 PC's the system moved quicker than with other antivirus' used before - Trend Micro on one and Kaspersky Pure on the... 3/5 Andrea L. Excellent program but.....

I have found the newer versions (2011-2012) of Norton Internet Security to be both highly effective at protecting my PC and absent of the cumbersome background programs that effected system performance. I am a fan and will continue to use it. The only change that is bad is that now when you add a new version it does not just add 365 days to whatever days you have remaining on your current protection so you just lose out on those days. That is not the way it has been in the past so wait until your current version is expiring to install the new code and activate it so you don't lose the last 50 days of your current protection like I did. 3/5 R. Much more reasonable through Amazon

I've always trusted and used Norton Internet Security programs on my computers. The last few years I just had Symantic load the new program automatically each year. But, this year when they told me my virus protection would be expiring in 30 days, and then informed me that they just wanted to let me know my credit card would automatically be charged the 59.99 to renew. I thought to myself that was awfully expensive especially being that this year had been hard on my family financially, so I started looking around. Lo and behold I found the same virus protection software through Amazon for less than half the price. Thanks Amazon you've done it again! 5/5 thomas l mcdermott - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Still the best

I have used Norton for years, in its various personas (anti-virus, Internet security, and 360). Generally I buy whatever is available for a good price on Black Friday. This year is was the Internet Security, but only for one computer. So I had to substitute the freebee, McAfee, on my second and third computers. I wish I had not. Should have just paid for the extra support. So for me, at least, Norton has always worked. I have never had a virus get through. The anti spam works, and my computers don't crash. McAfee, on the other hand, has not worked well and will be replaced. I highly recommend any Norton product, keeping in mind that smaller older computers should use the simplest product available (anti-virus), instead of the top product (360), so that the software doesn't make your computer lag much. 5/5 Victoria H. Renewal Costs More Than New Software - Otherwise OK

I have been using the Norton security products for many years, and I have been for the most part very satisfied with them. The one gripe I have is that every year when I go to renew my subscription, I find that I can purchase new copies of the software for less than the renewal price. Although it is relatively easy to buy new copies of the software every year and avoid the exorbitant renewal costs, I feel like Symantec is trying to take advantage of me. I think loyal customers should be rewarded with renewal costs that are at or below readily available costs for the new software from reliable sources like Amazon. Instead, Symantec prefers to try to gouge its customers. For this software which is currently selling for $37.99 on Amazon, Symantec charges $59.99 for renewal. Shame on you Symantec! 3/5 Linus Linder - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2011 - 1 User/3 PC [Old Version] (Software) I have been using the Norton security products for many years, and I have been for the most part very satisfied with them. Norton continues its good run.... still some flaws and cosmetic improvements this time

I have been using Norton Antivirus/Internet security for years now (on 3 PCs running XP) and the big turn around for the past few years with 'light' software has been great. Most times, issues have been due to non-removal of other/earlier versions of Norton software.Installation: The recent improvements in installation are continuing to be great. I was able to upgrade from NIS2010 to 2011 in under 2 minutes. If you still have license period left from your previous installation, choose to upgrade using Norton upgrade option (You'll get pop-up notice or check Support - Check new version/product update). If you upgrade using the disc, it will over-write your existing license period (doesn't make sense, but that is the case here). However, after internet upgrade, you can enter the license code from the disc to extend the license for another year (just before your license period expires). During installation, you may notice wireless connection disconnecting a couple of times,... 4/5 Gene Cloner (St Louis) - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Internet Security 2011 - 1 User/3 PC [Old Version] (Software) I have been using Norton Antivirus/Internet security for years now (on 3 PCs running XP) and the big turn around for the past few years with 'light' software has been great. One of the best if not the best IS software

Well, after a few month of beta testing I guess it's time to give everybody my opinion. Since 2010 Norton became my favorite security suite for my PC, and this one is no exception. I tested it on 3 different PC running XP Pro, Vista H.P.32bit and Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. Once you get this software it will let you install on 3 different computers. Haven't tested 64bit version, but I'm pretty sure it should work the same. For those who already has a 2010 edition you won't see mush of the changes, it's more like refined version, which is a very good thing. For the interface it keeps the dark theme, with yellow text, but moves the large graphic security status indicator from the main interface window up to the task-bar and system tray icons. The UI is impressively easy to use. It's still very fast light on resources, with an extremely good protection. Buyer Beware

I bought Norton Internet Security 2012 5 pc because of long standing disappointment with McAfee, and good performance reviews for Norton. Its performance is superior to any system I have used for years. However, it turns out that the 1 year license starts counting down after the first install on a PC. Subsequent installs on other systems decrease the license period by the time between the first install and subsequent installs. The Amazon site does not state this. With the aid of a magnifying glass, I found that the product box top says somewhat cryptically that the license is for one year starting with the first install. You apparently can't find this out until after purchase, which is a little late. I had not intended to install two systems until July. I will now just give up the McAfee licenses and install on all 5 machines. In my view the Norton license scheme is deceptive and fraudulant. If you are not prepared to install the product on 5 machines at the same time, you... 4/5 feeder - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) If you are not prepared to install the product on 5 machines at the same time, you... Read more Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 3, 2012

Better than the last one !

This verison is a bit better than the last one, With more bells and wistles to help protect your computer. A couple of things to note are: this program WILL delete older programs in your computer and once you install on the first computer your year of service starts, regardless of when you install on other computers. This is not noted on the box. So far I'm satisfied with the protection. As for the shipping , it came before we were supose to get it by about 3 days. 5/5 Chrit55 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Worst editition yet, plus it corrupts your screen with constant ads for Nortion products - it "tags" every search result

Forget this one. Norton needs to try again. First it loads slowly, secondly it blocks many programs, thirdly it challenges all search engine results, some of them it will "reject" if it doesn't pass Norton's test (what test?) then it corrupts your search engine results with a Norton tag that clutters the screeen. Someone at Norton must think that their customers want their computers to be an advertisement for Norton. I don't, so I sent it back. 1/5 NewYorker "Boston" (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) don't be mislead by the 3PC on the box

I love norton. I buy about 10 copies a year because I have a lot of computers. I was a bit mislead by this box, 1 user 3 pcs. I thought I could install it on 3 pcs in my home and it would run for a year on each pc. well, it does not. My antivirus protection on my computers expires at different times. I just realized that when you install on the 2nd and 3rd computer, it only allows you the time left on the first computer, which to me, should be clearly advertised on the box, which I could not see it anywhere. I would have bought the other option of it, where they send you 3 discs. I did not realize it was this way. 4/5 APRIL - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Sluggish Resource Hog

I had switched to Norton back in 2009 when they started getting positive reviews for keeping resource usage at a minimum. I haven't had any real complaints with it until this 2012 version. Ever since installing it my computer runs sluggish & found it was Norton (ccSvcHst.exe) eating up 88% of my CPU just idling, it wasn't even scanning! Norton is quick to report other applications with resource usage but doesn't report itself. I cannot in good conscious recommend this product until they fix this issue & go back to using minimum resources as they did in 2009-2011. 2/5 SmokeRingHalo "smokeringhalo" (St Louis, Mo) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Not Trial Version

I purchased the product from Amazon and it arrived very quicky. Product is as decribed. It is not a trial version. After install, it did say that I had a 3 day trial, however, the instructions that came with the software say that you must activate the product within 15 days of install. A product key is attached to the instructions. After I entered the key and activated the software, my subscription went from 3 days to 365 days. 5/5 Guacamole - See all my reviews This review is from: Norton Antivirus 2011 - 1 User [Old Version] (Software) I purchased the product from Amazon and it arrived very quicky. Great Product But Too Many Problems

After using Norton for years and getting totally frustrated with their horrible service and an atrocious product called Norton 360 [early version], I switched to Kaspersky about 3 years ago. That was a smart move because Kaspersky has better customer service and a SUPERIOR product. Let me start by saying Kaspersky is the best consumer product for protection of your computer, however, they have significant problems every time they upgrade to a new version. Even worse, management refuses to communicate with their customers about those problems. One of the pluses of buying this product is the following. If a new version comes out during your one year cycle, you can upgrade to the new product for FREE. The downside, with both the 2010 and 2011 upgrades, many customers [not all] had major problems. With the 2010 upgrade, I was one of many whose system slowed to a crawl for weeks until they finally fixed the problem. Management failed to send out an email advising customers there... 3/5 R. Whether you own a powerful desktop or a modest mini-laptop, KIS 2011 is a worthy purchase for users of Windows 7 64-bit

*(PLEASE NOTE: This review is geared towards Windows 7 64-bit users with a fairly recent computer build, e.g. any dual core processor PC built over the past four years or less. PC users with ten-year-old Pentium 4/XP computing rigs should look elsewhere for advice; if possible, they should also consider upgrading and/or replacing their aging hardware and OS, as the cost/value ratio in the PC market has never, ever been better... even when one takes into consideration these hard economic times.)As was the case last year, after taking a month-long test run with the latest internet security suites (Avast, Norton, McAfee), I have come away very impressed with Kaspersky Internet Security. I own a 4-year-old Dell XPS 410 with an Intel Core 2 6700 CPU @ 2.66GHz, equipped with a "RAID 0" 2 TB dual hard drive, 8 GB DDR2 RAM and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB "Direct X 10"-compatible graphics card. The best security package I have ever used.

Kaspersky replaced McAfee on my computer, low resource utilization and no problems. Easy installation. Not only can I use my computer at any time, I can also print on my wireless connected printer. McAfee decided that since I did not have their product installed on the "computer" on my home network I could not use it. To print I had to disable the firewall. Kaspersky correctly identifies the device as a printer and have no problems using all of the features of my all-in-one.The installation was flawless and fast, even though there was a new version available and the download was large.Full system scan runs very quietly on the background and I don't even notice it is doing anything, I had to open the window to see if it was still doing it or it was completed. It also ran in half the time of what McAfee used to take, and you do notice McAfee when it is running.Another advantage is that it has not used up another license because I am running... 5/5 Gustavo Orellana - See all my reviews, September 20, 2010

After doing four or five weeks of research and trying kaspersky and bitdefender(which is a monster resource hog) norton outshined them. It's fast, in fact it's the fastest full virus scan I've experienced and resource light. It catches everything and doesn't allow anything to go unnoticed. I used to be a Norton fan in the past then after I discovered back four or five years ago that norton allowed many viruses into my computer, I moved on. Bitdefender was slow, but it was comprehensive. After getting tired of the slow updates and scan rates and false positives I decided to go hunting again and ended up back with Norton. You won't regret it. 5/5 Ranger "Ranger" (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Succeeded where another failed.

About two weeks ago my daughters computer was attacked with somthing which tried to make her think her hard-drive was failing. It masked itself as a windows recovery program. It asked her to go on line to download a fix for the problem. Knowing you cannot fix a failing piece of hardware with software she suspected she had a virus. She contacted a Mcafee representative to see what could be done. They agreed it was a virus and had her run several scans. It found one infected file but did not find this virus and could not get rid of it. She wanted to know how come Mcafee did not stop this virus and could not fix it. She was told that they can't stop everything. She immediately cancelled her automatic renewal to Mcafee, and I ordered this for her. She did not use her computer until the Norton arrived. We then removed the Mcafee and installed Norton, and imediately scanned the computer. It found and removed three threats immediately. When it finished we tried using the desktop shortcuts... 5/5 Leland D. Valentine "Lee V." (Santee, SC) - See all my reviews, May 30, 2011
